  • In this weeks main video I go behind the scenes on a test photoshoot with food stylist Elle (Boss management) where I cover all of the camera settings, equipment, lighting set ups and rationals as to why and how we take each of these food photographs for my professional food photography portfolio.

I liked your "reading from left to right" lighting explanation. Never considered that before. So will have a play around with some test shots.

Thanks. I wish I could reference where all these things come from, but I can never remember who told me what.

Never realized why I lit left to right. Makes total sense! My graphic design sensibilities must've kicked in. Thanks for the BTS looks!

Yup. They have saved my eyes a number of times when assisting Scott. They are also good for putting on stand legs if you have to setup in a clients home and they have a posh floor.

I would love to hear more about the light in the sequence with the chicken dip. I hate it when there is a shadow on the surface coming from my fill light but you managed to get rid of it. How? Also there is that nice highlight on the ketchup coming from the right. Would be nice to see hear more about that.
    Otherwise, great videos!

Hi Scott, recently I've invested in old broncolour equipment and still coming to grips with it all, Im curious to know why you chose the fashion over your Pulso 4. P.s be great if one day you did a break down of it all (found there's very limited information on the topic)

those pictures are awesome! this made me hungry.. the last one looks like shrimps :D
a photographer I used to assist for a while always told me : when doing something realistic, a good picture don't need a lot post production! other wise it's not the right photographer for the job

Really useful. I wonder what your criteria are on cutting off part of your subject. There is a photograph by Jeff Wall where a foot is missing (in the Tate I believe), it irritates me immensely. After seeing it in a book given to me about 20 years ago I always judge and bristle. You seem to have the problem cracked.
