  • Toaplan were famous for producing mostly shoot em`ups especially up the screen shooters and this was one of their finest. Flying Shark was like a middle finger to capcom for producing 1942, and basically kicked its ass as well. This game was a real surprise to me, having largely ignored it for years I decided to go back and have a look and see if I can be convinced to like it...... with some interesting results.

Flying Shark is a great old school traditional shmup. This was definitely an arcade favourite of mine back in the day and I still enjoy playing it on Evercade and PC :-) Keep up the awesome work!

It was a real surprise to me, I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did.

I have respect for this game since it's from Toaplan but boy is it hard. For us in the US it was called Sky Shark for some reason and since I never saw it in the arcades my only exposure to it for a long time was the NES version which has great Tim Follin music but a ton of flaws with flickering and hit detection. There were a lot of ports for European computers but people say they aren't that great except for the Spectrum which I never played. If you can get your hands on the Japanese release on Switch not only is it arcade perfect but they added a bunch of life improvements like indicator lights, I think a map, and extra modes to the game. 😃

1942 is from 1984 and FS is from 1987 man, that´s a bit of an unfair comparison... Love FS by the way 👍
