They have always been one of the most successful genres in ESC, honestly I'm not sure why you thought ballads would never do well 😅 Balkan ballads, pop ballads, and so on, from Rise Like a Phoenix to Amar Pelos Dois to Tattoo, we have plenty of recent winners that are ballads. And France finished 2nd with Voila, which you may have forgotten about too. The other thing that stood out for me was the language issue. It used to be the case that everyone wanted to send songs in English, but that trend has been shifting for a while already. Måneskin, Kalush Orchestra, Käärijä... there are hundreds of languages in Europe, why limit ourselves to English only? Personally, one of the best and most important things about ESC is to showcase the cultural richness and variety there is, and the linguistic aspect is crucial in that too!
