Mid week surprise :-). Happy Labor Day, enjoy your free day. I suppose a bit of modding is in order?
I bought the Darwal upon your reccomendation. It work so much better than the Ottocast. I have a 2019 A3 and it has a wireless charger in the armrest. Not sure if it's the same in 2018. Also look at getting a data blocker for the USB A port and put that on your charging cable in one USB port and then plug the Darwal in the other USB port. That I believe will solve your problem.
My solution is an Ottocast wireless Carplay dongle and a Clearmount wireless charge mount wired behind the dash. I use a Magbak case and its rock solid
I know that some modern cars even if the ignition is on there won't be power to the accessories (12v outlets) unless the car was actually running - after you stop the car the accessories will stay running for a few minutes then warn that it'll drain your battery and switch off - that won't turn off the light around the outlet just the power to it itself..... Something else to try at least.
Maybe I missed something but if you want to charge while using CarPlay, just use Wired Apple CarPlay 🤷🏻♂️ why over complicate it
I routed a apple MagSafe wireless charger through my vent. Its magnetic and wireless so no visible cables or interference with my wireless carplay adapter
I never liked wireless systems. In my car, I use a coiled USB A to USB C cable and keep the phone near the USB ports (no cup holders on that part of the dashboard in the 2019 Polo AW GTI).
