I´m baffled how much artistic substance Lennon still had around 1980. Composing Free as a bird, Real Love, Now and then, Grow old with me, Woman, Beautiful Boy, Watching the Wheels, Just like starting over. Most composers lose their ability quickly as they age. Lennon who between -65 and -75 had an insane artistic output, you´d think he was done hitting his 40s, but nope.
He was, as he wrote, “starting over.” He should be getting ready to turn 84 next week. John Lennon will never be forgotten as long as Beatle music plays.
@@pizzalibrarian He could have given so much more joy and happiness to the world except for his assassination. There could have been more collaboration with the other Beatles and more great music, but the violence and sickness in this world he was so against destroyed all that.
This one was allegedly up for consideration for Anthology, but they passed on it. Maybe because it had already been released in ghastly casette form by Yoko in 84. Pity, because as good as Now and Then is, the lyrics in this one are much, much more solid (emotional tug of strings-wise).
John, thanks for everything. You made it all happen and we Beatles fans are all richer for it. I’m 61 and am blessed to have heard your music for just about my whole life.
Great job, btw! Love what you've done with it. Frankly, they should reprocess FAB, Real Love and everything they can. It would breathe new life into it, methinks 😂
Wow. I am truly moved by this. I have a special attachment to "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" because they were the first new Beatles songs I saw in real time. Now that Now and Zen, which was created with Paul, Ringo, George (who apparently said "That's crap" about the rough mix of the finished version of Now and Zen in 1995), and John, has been released, I am so moved to hear these two songs with John's voice, which had been buried, now in clear vocal form! It's a dream come true! And I am also moved by the fact that "Grow Old with Me," which was a candidate in the 1995 session, has been turned into the ideal form using AI. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️
Sounds great @dutchbrit84! I've been trying for years to find isolated tracks of Paul's bass and Ringo's drums from 2019 to combine with John's demo and George Martin's 1998 strings, and now you've done it! :) Would you be willing to send me all the tracks you used in your mix? I have a few changes I'd like to make for my own version to listen to, and I don't want to put the burden on you to do it, since you've already put a lot of hard work into your version.
This is really really amazing, probably my favourite out there. I'd love to hear an updated versions, a new remix. I'm putting together a CD of all: Free As A Bird, Real Love, Now And Then, and Grow Old With Me - called: Epilogue.
Brilliant song by Lennon esp when the orchestra backs him, yet sad because he never had the chance, obviously, to grow old with us Now imagine all th ethe r people who never chance to grow old because of idiots with guns.
I think the instruments are mixed well. Sometimes the doubling up on the vocals doesn’t work because it’s out of sync. Maybe go back to one voice or only double it up in certain places. Otherwise, nice work! I’m sure this took a long time.
HANG ON ...HAS THIS SONG BEEN GIVEN THE A.I. TREATMENT TOO ! ...😱😱😱😭😭😭💖💖 IS THIS A SONG FROM THE ANTHOLOGY ALBUM ....DONE IN ADVANCE !....HOLLY SHIT !, I HOPE IT IS ....WHAT I MEAN IS THAT I HOPE PAUL AND RINGO START TO DO MORE A.I SONGS (AS WE CAN SEE) THE SOUND WITH THIS TECHNOLOGY IS MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL SONGS RECORDED BACK THEN IN MONO SYSTEM 💖😭😭😱💥👍✌️💐👏👏🔥🙏🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🏴🏴🏴🥳🥳🥳
I honestly think this is a woeful song that should be left alone. It is not of even a Threatles standard. Melodically its is a dirge and Lennon's vocals, even taking the demo sound in to account, are so thin. Thank goodness they never chose it as all of the other three are much better.
Maybe the lyrics are solid, but the melody/harmonie are much weaker than Now and Then, Free As A Bird and Real Love - not only sentimental, but (much too) simple, almost like a childrens song (John would have called "granny music" if by Paul ...)

It would have been great to have Ringo sing it as John intended and used John's instruments and backing vocals
Stop.
I heard the Beatles passed up on this one because it was too personal, and was specifically for Yoko
They passed on it because of how sad it is in hindsight. John never got to grow old.
@@christopherdanieljohnston8501 Ringo re-recorded it, but his version has so much auto-tune that it doesn't sound like him.

This song made me cry at the time it came out, thinking about what could have been.
Good job :)

I agree but I that would probably be insulting to Jeff Lynne and the work he did with those tracks.
One of John's Beautiful ballots ❤

Fantastic job
This is the best mix/version I've heard... the chords are true to Lennon's demo. Excellent!
I am so, so glad you went to the trouble you did to make this. This is so incredibly beautiful. A huge, and I mean huge, thank you.
I love the Ringo version

Nice job! Yes, I would love to hear an updated version with these suggestions.
great suggestion, then it could be the official mix that never was, just that one correction on the bad doubles
❤❤❤❤
😮 omg
Nett. Nicht mehr, nicht weniger.
Ringo is the best Beatle

Good but the out of synch vocals needs a redo

Milk and honey version is fine
