Michael Halvorson and Barry Smith: Debate on BFO

Michael Halvorson, Chief Engineer of the Alabama CubeSat Initiative, has been working to deploy BFO as a top-level ontology for systems engineering within the framework of the Industrial Ontologies Foundry. In the course of this work he has identified a number of seemingly problematic features of BFO, which are addressed in this debate. Barry Smith attempts to resolve the problems identified by Halvorson, and also to point out areas which have implications for the relation between BFO and the PhysO ontology, a very early draft of which is described here: arxiv.org/abs/....
