Great and helpful video. I have the SM removed from my If Cans. Now I need to figure out what Caps to use for a '54 model Hallicrafters S-85 with SMD. How can you figure out what Caps to use because the Schematic is no help. Any suggestions there? Done any Halli '50s model IF Cans?
Interesting information and useful, too, as I start looking at a few radio projects coming up.
Thanks for sharing.
Good video. I've seen the brass insert removed with a dremel with a grinding attachment.
And to think my bench was a mess. A messy bench top is the sign of a creativevperson

You may have to experiment but generally 100pf caps will work.
Is it necessary to use mica capacitors for this fix? Or will any non-electrolytic do?
I’ve never heard of anyone using non mica caps for this. I think you have to to get the smaller values needed for the fix.
How do you determine what value to use for the capacitor s?
Sometimes the schematic will list the values but if not, 75-100pf will usually be in the ballpark
Your instructions were to scattered and did not stay on the procedure. Very hard to follow.
