Very difficult to get repair information on these. The one that I have has a built in radio, and it seems that there were very small differences and may have been 30 different variations.

I own one of these players. It was bought by my parents before I was born. My player needs repair. Everything seems to work but the turntable mat is all wonky, the phono cartridge is missing and the AC cord is falling apart. I've been planning to refurb the unit for probably over thirty years. I'm not getting any younger and hope to get to it before I'm done here on Earth.

Thanks. Yeah, I've got so many other things on the go that I haven't gotten around to this player yet. (I suffer from fibro/chronic fatigue so my energy levels are quite limited.) I still have foam surrounds that I need to install on a pair of Paradigm speakers. That's about three years pending already. I don't have the space to leave my in-process jobs lying around the house. That gives me a limited window of time to get things done. The internet is a treasure chest of information for all kinds of restoration jobs. I also don't have any friends who share my interests. I'm taking whatever knowledge I've acquired to the grave. 😘

Best to save up more than just one Cam for the Plasti-Dip, because trust me, once that can is open it won't keep no matter how securely you put the lid back on. Just sayin'.... but then, you've probably already discovered that.

Thank you for explaining the different colored vinyl. I knew that, but had forgotten exactly which genre was what color. I believe this also helped DJ's in a radio studio as they didn't have to search through all black vinyl. And the speed of 45 was derived from Columbia's 33 subtracted from the standard speed of 78! That is: 78 minus 33 equals 45!!

The sound quality is much better than I expected! Several years ago, a close friend bought a completely-restored RCA 45-only player similar to this one. It worked for him for a few years, but then he said the tonearm began "acting like a chicken, repeatedly pecking at the ground." So, he gave it to me, figuring that I could fix it and enjoy it. It's still in my to-fix queue...

I wish that there was a modern-day, fully automatic version of that player with quartz-locked direct drive, 33 and 45 speeds, a dust cover, a spinning center hole, an adjustable tonearm, and a replaceable cartridge! It might be expensive as a motherfucker, but it would be such a dope collectible novelty item! And, of course, it would mute during the automatic cycle. Peace.

Just finished putting a dial and dial cover on my 1400H, the cover is just a strip of plastic cut out from a smart water bottle, perfect fit. Put a mini rechargable LED keychain light that has a 1 lumen setting under the handle thing to have the dial always lit. It's a 2 tone radio that was restored and works well for $38 on eBay. Many of these are repainted, I like the blue here.

I'm having the same problem tracking down hammer finish in blue. I was hoping to find a medium shade of blue, but ran into the same problems you have. I was thinking of the possibility of buying some Rust-Oleum hammer finish silver in a can (not in a spray can) and mixing it with some deep blue enamel and using a cheepo H.F. spray gun to see if the hammered effect would still work.
