this was 5 years ago? jesus. Although, yes his views have pumeted, and his sub count hasent moved, the people who still watch Dan love him, and i am one of them. been watching for so long now, and these road trips are the definition of nostalgia.
This channel has only gained 600k in 4 years, that’s pretty sad I wanted nerdcubed to do more of these milestone vids but his channel just isn’t growing at all nowadays

The reboots killed it. He took away a lot of what people liked. Like when he played terrible simulators, or bad games in general. He took away intros and outros, he took away hello procrastinators, he took away most of his series that he was known for.
Whilst he’s brought most of it back now, it’s way too late, and he focuses on politics and news a lot more than ever, which isn’t always the best idea for a UA-camr who wants to grow in the gaming community. He had a ton of potential but couldn’t keep it up because he got bored of doing it the same way.

Still one of my favourite videos of all time. Huge road trip, but with 1) specific objectives you're trying to get along the way, and 2) a vehicle you try to keep alive. It's ridiculously entertaining. This video, along with your Eurotruck roadtrip, the 2.5M special and globe circumnavigation are what got me through insanely tough university projects.
I remember one where I could only sleep for 2-3 hours at best (0-2 hours usually, often staying up for many nights at a time despite the lack of sleep) for 2 months to complete a project, working every waking hour. I only had the chance to study for exams/work on other coursework for a few days at most in order to have enough time to complete the big project. Went through a mental break, thought I was going to float off the Earth or drown if I don't swim out of the atmosphere. But then I went back to youtube and remembered I used to watch this channel. These long videos are what kept me functioning while I worked. Just slow-burny enough to not distract me, but entertaining enough to keep me engaged. I've always come back to them for any long project or periods of crunch since.
So, yeah. Thank you. My tastes in entertainment change and I switch between my top UA-cam channels I watch actively every year or so, but this is always my number 1.

@@Matrix156 Is it sad, though? He's happier producing his current content than he was during his channel's greatest period of growth, and he's found the time to work on his own mental health (both working with therapists as well as taking more time to enjoy life, such as stargazing).
@@Matrix156 Oh I knew you didn't mean anything bad, I just wanted to reframe it into a more positive outcome.
He consciously chose to stop chasing the youtube algorithm when his burnout was reaching an apex and seriously affected his mental health. When he became successful enough from Patreon and other ventures (like his book), he demonitized his channel completely because he decided to only make videos he enjoys, not just things UA-cam thought were brand-safe.
I agree more people should be exposed to his channel, but I think the fact he stopped going out of his way to grow it was nice, in the end.
Looking forward to seeing this in reverse in a few years.

UA-cam started picking which creators they did and didn’t want to push growth for, and Dan didn’t do stuff with celebrities or big brands or general flashiness, so he was on the meh list, causing his videos to stop appearing in the recommended/related bar, killing his opportunity for growth

This was made 5 years ago/ in 2015. It was to celebrate his 2 million sub goal. 5 years later in 2020 he has 2.52 mil. 5 FIVE YEAR LATER AND THAT LITTLE GAIN. Daniel is going well under appreciated. He has had his channel for a long time, makes fair NOT MISLEADING and funny/entertaining content. He works hard on his videos and does a great job and only a 520k gain of subs in 5 years. Why is my childhood being treated so badly? I hope daniel continues to work hard, make videos, and enjoy ehat he is doing. I hope he has a smile on his face like the smile he gave me. Thank you Daniel you are one of the more trustworthy, witty, and entertaining creators on this site thank you so much for entertaining me in my younger years, wether it be crashtastic or cube world.
