I just ordered this. I’m so excited. I just got a 6 inch old old craftsman solid cast-iron. However, the cast-iron is not square. I already have a planner so I guess now I’ll have two. I have a ton of long sapele boards that are 12 inch waiting to be joined!
I got the 12 inch one and love it, the only down side or "bad" thing is when you switch to planer part and you have to move the fence and stuff to get the dust collector on the table deck. but other than a little bit of hassle it works great! OH and have to use the duck collector bin because there is a electric cut out on it.
Hoping to purchase this very soon. The helical cutterhead is a tremendous value, especially when doubled as a jointer and a planer. The small footprint of this machine means it can be mounted on a rolling base with it's own dust collection, saving tons of space. No more walking back and forth to different machines just to mill a board. Saves on time, space, money, and provides a superior cut?! I need this machine!
There's always been room for eliminating redundancy, I just always figured they wanted to simply sell more machines. Many of us have probably wondered why they didn't just make a wide jointer like this decades ago. Why can't a router have a drum stuck on it and become a drum sander? Why can't a drill press be a lathe? How many variations of stuff on a stick that spins does there need to be?

I just bought the 8in g0858...it's only 2k...other similar brands are 3k...we'll see how it goes

Why can’t a typical jointer just be used on all four sides of a board/piece if it’s wide enough?
