I was the first person in our neighbourhood to put a free table of things out the front. Now everyone does it from time to time. Everything goes, even timber, etc. We were amazed at first. One man's trash is another man's treasure, for sure. We've learnt to leave it out for a few hours once it turns dark, because some people wait unto they can't be seen to collect freebies, ha ha

Lol! In Austin, they have facebook groups for freebies, where they give things away in the neighborhood.

Great tips! My husband and are in our late fifties and have had to deal with our elderly parents homes when they either passed or went into assisted living. Wow, I think their generation saved EVERYTHING!! We spent the last year decluttering our large home and what a great feeling to know that someday our children won’t have near the stress dealing with our belongings as well as realizing that life is just better when your surroundings are organized and easier to take care of😊

I can totally relate to this. My grandmother uncle brother and mother passed away and some how I ended up with a house full of their belongings and memories. 2025 is going to be the year for me to get my house back. Thank you for sharing all of your tips. 🤗💓💕💞

I changed my mind set when donating. I now say I want to bless someone else with these items instead of using the word donate. It really does make a difference to imagine how excited the new recipient is with them.

Years ago I started a “support group” in my church for ladies who needed some moral support accomplishing goals. Decluttering was the number 1 goal. We offered to come over to each others’ houses to help, but no one chose to accept the help. It was enough to know others were going through it as well and to be able to celebrate successes along the way.

Yesterday I finally tackled my closet from hell! Literally, it had been on my list to clean out for months and was just dreading it. Well, I finally did it. Ended up with 4 large garbage bags of stuff that I am Blessed to have a Charity that will pick up and 1 bag for trash. It felt so good when I finished, and it definitely motivated me to continue with other areas. My challenge will be not to buy more stuff to clutter it up again.

I love this video. I had to laugh to myself a little because I live in Louisiana and if you put that white table out it will be gone in a matter of minutes because we use those tables for crawfish boils. So funny in my head. I always ask myself when cleaning out stuff, "If I were moving would I take this with me?" If not then it goes. Thanks for a great video and Happy New Year to you and Jason and your entire family.

My husband and I are disabled and I have chronic illnesses. Our home is very cluttered and small. I can’t say that it’s him but I have to much stuff! I’ve been watching several good channels on declutterring and I came across yours tonight. Thanks for sharing your story and your declutterring process. It was very helpful! I’ll be praying for you and your family and please pray for mine. Thank you and many blessings for the new year!!

Thank you Leslie for reminding us how mentally and physically rewarding it is to declutter. I am in my 70's and have been scaling down my home decor to a minimum for awhile. I usually have a yard sale and what doesn't sell gets donated. I am constantly reminding myself and others that you do not need a physical item to remember a family member or friend. We have years of memories locked away in our minds!

I have started decluttering. It's a very overwhelming process. I decided that 2-3 days a week I am going to focus on one part (a drawer, a cabinet) of my house and just declutter it. I don't care if it takes me several months, I'm going to do it. I also am going to do a no buy this year. There is nothing I need, it's always "I want or have to have" but I truly need nothing at the moment. I will not fall for the trends. I love my home the way it looks and I'm not going to change it because someone says it's out of style or a new piece is trending. I'm going to save money, get out of debt and not be overwhelmed by all the STUFF I have. Thanks so much for sharing.

I do the free table as well!
People took my table twice though. 😂 So I'd recommend putting a sign out asking people not to take the table.
This has been the BEST way for me to declutter because I love seeing people who are excited to find things they like for free.

Buy Nothing is AWESOME!!! I've been using it for over a year now. There are folks right in your neighborhood who need or want what you have! Think about families who don't have a decor budget, who don't mind a box of unopened snacks a few days past the "best by" date, or folks who run rescues who need pet items! Bless your home and bless your neighbors!

Loved your video. So true and so much to let go of. Our family growing up was very minimal with seven children and mom and dad. We literally had so very little. It seems each thing collected in years of marriage was a badge of honor that we worked so hard to earn the right to have nice things. Now it becomes overwhelming, and it owns us. Dusting and all. I have donated a houseful of furniture and clothing to be sure, so much to go through. The children didn't want to take their furniture when they got married so that's always hard to give away but it has to be gone. I fear of leaving and they have a giant amount of "stuff". Some things they love and want but I myself get overwhelmed. Not to mention being in the military and stationed so many places with things that I just treasure. I am taking photos and can remember but I cant have all this to stare at and make me overwhelmed. Thank you, Leslie, for your encouragement! Wishing you a happy New Year and wonderful things ahead!

Thank you, Leslie. It is always a huge motivator for me to watch others declutter and clean. It's the number one concern on my list of things to tackle this coming year. I am in my 60s, still fit like you, but I also have a chronic illness. There are days I either don't have the motivation or the physicality to tackle projects. But I want to get this done once and for all and be able to live out my years without worrying about an avalanche of stuff falling on my head when I grab something from the bottom of my closet. (This actually happened to me this year.) I look forward to more videos like this.

Vintage items from family that I treasure, but my adult children arent wanting when I am gone no longer sot in a china cupboard. I use the vases, bowls, pitchers, etc for daily use. Cotton balls, Q tips, tooth floss picks. Flower arrangements. Snack jars. I get to enjoy them more than just admiring them. ❤❤❤❤

Loved this video. I have had to downsize several times in the last 10 years. I am sometimes heart sore when I think about what had to go. Now have a rule about clothes. I started this month. First recycling items I had not used ever. Into the recycling bin for pickup. Some plastic but mostly glass jars and lids. Next the coffee mugs with lids. Donation box. I like pretty things, but I over buy at times. Same with cleaning supplies. So my pantry has gone through an organization, so I can see what is available and don't add to the shopping list. Saves money. Still working on the kitchen. I have gotten that down considerably when I moved, but I think there is more to donate. This week it will be my personal closet. Thanks for the encouragement on emotional attachments to items. That's a biggie for me.

I have an organizer who is helping me because #1 physically I am not well myself and #2 she will press me to decide whereas I will say put it aside and let me think about it. When I was starting out I really wanted items from my grandparents and parents but now the younger generation isn’t into that. I say that but my daughter is having me keep some things for her. Did you have a problem getting Jason to decide on his things or just get too tired to decide?

She used to make and sell candles in dough bowls so my guess would be that’s what she used them for? 🤷‍♀️

Try to donate to local charity not goodwill. Constantly declutter, always have a box to donate.

I keep a “to donate” pile going in one of my bedrooms at all times. My sister in law works with a humanitarian group in our area so when I get a pile big enough to make it worth her time to make the trip to my house I let her know and she picks it up. We also have a thrift store ran by one of the churches in my town. They sell everything that’s donated at very reasonable prices and every penny is used to help the needy in our county. The workers all donate their time and the building space is donated so I split my donations between them and my sister in law’s group. I quit making any donations to Goodwill when I found out how much the “big guys” in charge make. I was also told by one of the menial workers that what you donate at your local store is shipped to a different area and other areas donations are sent to other places. When they are received the manager’s go through them and take out all the “choice” items for themselves, family and friends. I was at the store that’s closest to me a few years ago and as I was helping the person unload what I had they made the statement that “boy they’re gonna love going through this”. I asked what they meant and that’s when I was told what truly happens. I loaded my stuff back in my truck and I’ve never made another donation to Goodwill.

When my sister's husband passed away and she down sized to sell her house and moved to an apartment she rented a roll off dumpster and just tossed everything away.
