- Everything You Missed From J.Cole’s The Off-Season. This video takes you through five different highlights from J.Cole’s new album The Off-Season that you may have missed. The tracklist to Cole’s sixth studio album includes 95. South, Amari, My Life ft. 21 Savage & Morray, Applying Pressure, Punchin The Clock, 100. Mil, Pride is the Devil ft. Lil Baby, Let Go My Hand, Interlude, The Climb Back, Close & Hunger On Hillside. For the first time in a while, J.Cole decided to collaborate with other artists and include features on the album while also working with more producers rather than handling the bulk of the production himself. It seems like The Off-Season might truly be one of his last albums. Many fans believe that this new J.Cole album is a part of the preparation for his album The Fall Off which has been teased since 2018’s KOD.
The Off-Season has powerful lyrics, detailed storytelling and anecdotes from J.Cole, and many hidden messages that were carefully weaved into the music. The Off-Season showed maturity and growth from J.Cole as he evolves into a hip hop veteran. The density and diversity within the project allowed us to have an interesting discussion about Cole’s latest project. Do you think J.Cole’s The Off-Season will end up being the best rap album of 2021?

People aren’t gonna say this but Bas lowkey deserves half the check from this album 😭, bro absolutely ATE on ‘let go my hand’ and ‘hunger on hillside’
That's BIG facts
Bas owes Cole for putting him on lmao
@@pipeyagrangran5771 thats BIG facts
He was sangin!
I don't know about half the check not for no fuckin bridges he aint even sing alone on let my hand go. besides Cole is more then capable of singing his own stuff.
The chorus and bridges get better each to me😭😭. That Cole and Lil Baby switch still touching my soul 😭😭😭
That transition was so damn smooth
@@NFRPodcast you guys are amazing, I really enjoy your content and it helps with being up to date with the music we love 🧐💚💚
The switch caught me sooo off guard I didn’t know what was going on
This album is ageing well
Facts
It has just been one week hahahaha
I hope he keeps the concept with hidden features on The Fall Off.. I lost myself when I heared Lil Baby out of nowhere, imagine a K.Dot or Joey verse coming with no warning
Keep up the great work guys
Hidden features should be a new trend in hip hop... take back the deluxe albums and give us exciting tracklists😂
@@NFRPodcast couldnt agree more! Since Birds and astroworld I love the concept.. altough I understand that its maybe difficult for promotion. I mean not everybody can afford a Drake feature without using it for advertising 😅
@@paddyp3846 ye but once an artist has done it once the fans can expect for it to happen again.
Would love to see an Andre 3k surprise verse or j electrónica 🔊🔥💯
@@karanarora31 they can expect it to happen, but we still can’t know who’s gonna be there and that’s the exciting part
Gets better and better every time I listen to it! It’s Top 3 in his discography for me right now! Could get Into the top 2 in my current rotation!
Wow that's amazing! I love seeing that the real Cole fans are really enjoying the album🙏
@@connordavis3018 very tough to say, as much as I’m loving the album as of right now 4YEO and 2014 FHD are ahead and so is KOD for it’s great concept but lyrically Cole went insane on this... so might eventually pass KOD👀
I kid you not I’ve listened to this album atleast 15-20x over already....and it gets better on each listen.
Do you think this is going down as AOTY?
@@NFRPodcast honestly I don’t know if I could even nominate it for “album of the year”, although the quality is good enough to be nominated. While ‘The Off-Season’ is a great project, there isn’t a cohesive message behind it for me; just a really good collection of songs. As y’all pointed out, this album feels more like a mixtape. I think Cole was just tryna prove he can rap on any type of style of instrumentation, which he executed well.
But circuling back to your original question...as of RIGHT NOW, I think this is hip-hop album of the year.
@@yusuke5124 I have this in contention with Brockhampton’s Roadrunner and a few others but I agree that it didn’t have the deepest cohesive theme or message; fantastic project but I could see something else snatching AOTY🙏
@@NFRPodcast I agree. Also there’s a possibility Travis Scott’s dropping ‘UTOPIA’ sometime later this year......I can’t crown Cole for AOTY just yet, nor hip-hop album OTY 🤷🏽♂️
for me, cole's best album ever. The simplicity and at the same time the complexity in the project makes it goated. It will age very well, can't wait for more videoclips
How did you like the amari video?
@@NFRPodcast I thought it was harddd
Hip-Hop needs voices like you guys!! A lot of people think that Coles's projects are subpar. He's easily top 10 storytellers of all time. I will say he doesn't have a To Pimp A Butterfly or Illmatic Album yet, though. Great video 🔥🔥🙏🏾👍🏾
That's major love Raheem, we're blessed to be able to do this man🔥 I think the narrative of Cole being too plain and simple as a rapper and creator is absolute nonsense
He will never make a illmatic or to pimp a butterfly he just isn't good enough
@@joeljoseph9017 In my opinion cole definitely has a Illmatic and TPAB it’s called 2014 Forest Hills Drive💯🔥not saying it’s better but from a hip hop standpoint it’s just as good as TPAB or GKMC those albums have just have a different style of music more versatile on TBAP but I still say Forest Hills Drive replay value is just as good if not better than those albums💯
@@24klogan86 hell no forest hill drive is no where near close lyrically influence impact wise
Bas’s contributions need to be highlighted IMO. He killed it on let my hand go.. this is more like a mixtape imo.. there’s not a consistent theme just a bar fest. The album is refreshing to the culture
His performance on let go my hand was incredible🤝
Agreed! I never knew he could sign like that! Outstanding! Moray too!!
How can an album get better and better every listen thats madddd
Yeah it's truly only getting better with each play🤯
“I got more cribs than Habitat for Humanity” i swear is a reference to doing the Rock-a-Baby. He’s got cribs for all them babies he’s taking it light on.
Am I the only one that is getting a lot of replay value from this album?
YES it's getting better each time I run through it
I think it's really cool that he drops an album and then two days later goes and plays professional ball. He's literally living out his dreams. Also in that podcast with KD, I like how he ties in the work to be put in for both basketball and rapping. Can't knock Cole. He's a stand up guy. Just excited to see where he takes it from here.
Are you going to be watching Cole on the court?🤣
@@NFRPodcast for sure. He gotta get at least one triple double like Westbrook.
In my opinion, J.Cole is a humble chill rapper who wants to spread positive messages to the people. But haters will see his humility as a sign of weakness and would continuously test him to see his limits. Overtime, these constant confrontations can become overwhelming and distracting from his main goals. So rather than brush it off, he choose to flex a little💪. Let the bullies know that he ain't no punk. Like a seasoned samurai who only draws his sword to defend himself or the weak. Sometimes the best defense is offense.
The off-season in most sports, like basketball, football or soccer, is when most athletes take a break and relax a little. Only the disciplined ones use this period as an oppurtunity to fine tune their crafts and train harder to become better. Sometimes, if fans are lucky they get a sneak peek into their favorite athlete's training routine. Let's them know what it really takes to be an elite.
That's deep bro
this is such an underrated channel for reviews because you guys actually go deep in and explaining everything. usually i don’t even catch some things you guys talk about
Thanks for the love Diego! There's honestly so much that goes into these projects and sometimes, even we miss certain things... glad you enjoyed the video🤝
Man I love this album but it's raw Cole with mixtape energy, if we get this same raw Cole energy on the fall off with that polished conceptualization then that could easily be his best album imo!

The flow and cadence of the off season is amazing. I also expected it to be an album but either way this sixth studio album is awesome. I'm definitely hyped for the Fall off. Also i kinda expected him to end his music career on his 8th or 9th album either this grand finish is mind blowing.🔥🔥🔥
Are you ok with the idea of Cole being close to retirement?👀
@@NFRPodcast Absolutely
Cole's been in the game for roughly 10 tens years now and has reach goat status. I'm glad his chasing his dreams of being a pro basket baller. Now it's time to focus on the dreamville talent like Bas EARTHGANG & JID who are next in line. Speaking of JID his supposed to drop his 3rd studio album this year alone with EARTHGANG and i feel like that will elevate JID if u look at how Cole's FHD did for him.

AMAZING PODCAST.... I think Cole was making this basketball related like he always does, and this type of season was just blowing rappers heads off.. like off wit the verbal AK.... idk but that’s just my take on the album....just an amazing start to this new rap decade
Thank you C! This was definitely a breath of fresh air and set the standard of great rap albums for 2021🔥
this album is basically the days before, to rodeo for cole, this is just hype for the fall off
How did you like it?
J cole 🐐
This and forest hills man ughhh Coleworld
Cole on another level
This album cool as hell, but I can’t help but feel this is just J Cole giving us a tease to whatever is down the line…. He definitely hasn’t reached his true potential on a project imo, and that might be a good thing considering how far his career has gone on for.
Yeah this is truly just a warm up for The Fall Off... a quick reminder that he's still that guy
AGREED!! Project is dope. Not what I expected/anticipated due to the heavy promotion. But this definitely felt like a sample. And like there’s more to come!
It’s a solid 8. I like that’s it’s not bloated. The auto tune cole really threw it off for me but I like the focus on punchlines he has for this album. Applying pressure and 95 south are both my favorite songs for sure. Applying pressure delivers a message regarding finances I really support.
Really liked the off season, Cole’s skills are top tier. I really need the fall off to drop soon
Yeah this really felt like a prelude to The Fall Off

Is this your favorite Cole album?
@@NFRPodcast yessir most probably 1st or 2nd. the offseason and fhd are interchangeable
Timbaland on AMARI backs my argument even more, he stops in VA, the finished the album with 3 songs he produced himself, his arrival back in NC.
Great album
Top 3 off the album?

Hunger on Hillside
Really solid project only miss is 100 mill IMO. Also super respectable that it’s only 12 tracks instead of 20-25
I agree with you Nelson! That’s the only track I probably won’t revisit
fire vid
🙏
I went into this project with an expectation until I realized I would rather have a album by Cole with atmosphere and storytelling cause that early 2000’s basketball neighborhood hero aesthetic is so raw . We all know that Cole can write some catchier or more entertaining songs but the temperature jus right on this one bro it feels almost feels like Illmatic .
1. 95 south
2. Let go of my hand
3. Hunger on hillside
4. 100 mill
5. The climb back
🔥🔥🔥
I love every track you chose for the top 5 excpet 100 mil🤣 not a bad song just easily the weakest on the album for me!
I consider myself to be a J Cole fan before he dropped his first album. 4YEO and KOD had me worried that Cole was done making good music and just aiming to make the most "deep" and artsy fartsy stuff he could. Thankfully this was a return to form for my boy and almost something of a spiritual successor to 2014 FHD
4yeo and kod are both fantastic and simplistic albums that are packed with catchy flows and great but accessible lyricism,
Yall was right the album was better than expected the interlude is better alfter hearing album. My life with 21 savage is amazing & outro. I give it 8/10.
My Life will end up being one of the best songs of the year!
@@NFRPodcast I definitely agree I enjoy Yall review
A month later album aging well I can see this album having longevity like 2014FHD where its going to be on the billboard 200 charts over 300 weeks easy without never dropping off.
It’s a trip from NY to NC, it starts on 95 south which is heavily samples Jay Z’s “U Don’t Know” and features Cam. Also you wouldn’t get on 95 south to get from NC to NY, you’d get on 95 north lol
Stop calling it a mixtape bruh, its an album give it the respect it deserves
I think this definitely a mixtape Bc it’s on datpiff
Interesting... it feels like a mixtape but yet he called it an album, weird🤔
Just hoping with get more features before he retires... more veteran features that would challenge him like you said would be dope. I'd like to see any Eminem, lil wayne, Busta, kendrick, Royce, drake ft. Kid Cudi was also mentioned by cole on the fall off so maybe there's a seed being planted there. Time will tell.
Yeah those features would be dope to see!
I can't even lie this makes me more Hyped for The Fall Off. JAVARI(Want You to Fly), Enemies(a leaked snippet) & that Timbaland song he previewed didn't make this album and it was fire.....just imagine what else he has next 😕
I really wanted that Timbo track man...

still cant believe anyone's talking about the "It's A Boy" project. I might be more hyped for that than The Fall Off
Do you think it's an alter ego project for kiLL Edward?
I think that he will make it’s a boy more of an album like 4YEO. That album as I’m sure you’re aware is from the perspective of someone else, very conceptual and nostalgic of Carolina life. Just given the name of "it’s a boy" alone sounds like it will be super similar, perhaps a reflection of his childhood or past. And then I think the fall off will be his magnum opus, with all he’s got, maybe centering around his accolades/achievements and where he is going with the rest of his life, centered around the future.
I would have loved to hear someone in he's class rap with him i.e big sean, wale, meek
That’s facts we needed to see Cole tap in with some lyrical fellas... maybe on the next one
Cole army 😈
Cole World
Great album🔥 but I wouldve loved some storytelling like 4youreyezonly or javari. Kinda missed that😬
He should’ve put javari on the album 😩
@@Measuredingrahams nah it doesnt fit in the album but it should be on streaming platforms. If you ask me it shouldve been on 4yeo. It really just fits the theme of leaving a message after death. And just hold the story of javari next to the one on neighbors. The cops suspecting drug possession and busting into the house, while my man was just preaching. Imagine if Cole was at home and just got shot..... Thats what Javari is about to me but he cant put it on an album without the media cancelling him for the whole song I guess. Even as Jcole I dont think you can really put yourself next to Jesus in front of the masses.
Edit:
I might add that to me (which might not be to you) the song Neighbors comes into fyeo as a big point that goes somewhat unnoticed. He tries to tell us that he couldve died right there, fitting the theme of leaving a message for after your death.
Now imma explain a little further because at the end of javari he comes back after his death and the WHOLE Ville all of a sudden hears his message. Imagine what would happen if Cole died... He wouldve definitely reached the whole Ville with his music and message
Javari would have been a great fit for 4yeo... but I do think The Fall Off will have more storytelling tracks🔥
@@gestolen_fiets yeah I get the 4YEO theme but it has the 4YEO self titled track so it’s like it would’ve been redundant to have both those tracks on there when there are similar in tone length etc
@@Measuredingrahams true that true that, sonically it wouldnt add to the album I guess. Great point. But it wouldnt fit at all in the offseason if you ask me.
One of my fav episodes, but I’m a Cole fanboy 😂
To note, a lot of people in the Cole community think that It’s a Boy is the kiLL edward album he alluded to a few times in the past.
Is this something you'd be interesting in hearing?
@@NFRPodcast Hell yeah. I’ve been anxiously waiting for that album since I knew it existed.
Did y’all see on the Climb back He mentions Genius.Com misquoting his lyrics. And then You go to Genius and they have the lyrics highlighted with a description about that line 😭
Yeah it's so meta😂 Climb Back still one of the hardest songs off the album!
The industry is really toxic and I'm glad he's been able to keep his head up.

This is definitely a reach but sometimes I wonder if “it’s a boy” is going to be a doc or visual project. Still probably using original songs but what if it was more visual? Again huge reach but he does direct and he’s told Angie a while ago that he’s going to write a script one day. In the “applying pressure” doc he talked about getting everything checked off before retiring. I would assume a script is one of those things.
