This is a very good solution for what should be a simple filtering process. I'm a bit disappointed that Fluval seem to have made a real balls of a simple back sump so it's great when companies or individuals do something about it. The inserts aren't cheap but they will make a hell of a difference by making sure that water flows through filter correctly and filter can be set up with an appropriate amount of good porous filter media for best results. The most important part of any aquarium is the filtration so well done for making this one function properly. Groovy.
I was just about to comment and say that this is a very god system now but then I saw my comment below saying exactly that from over a year ago....my memory is shot.
I had been out of the salt hobby for over 8 years, but I decided to creep back in with the Fluval so I ordered it a few days ago, along with their skimmer. However, after seeing this video & a few other guys reviewing your baskets, I guess I'm gonna start with your two baskets in lieu of the skimmer & see how it goes. Just ordered 5minutes ago, can't wait to everything comes so I can get going. Thanks again for a decent vid!
I bought the basket for my fluval spec 3 bc I felt like the sponge filter wasn’t flowing well. Got to say this thing improved flow greatly and it’s much easier to maintain. Love it.
I had the protein skimmer In chamber 1 and since have replaced it with Intanks chamber 1 and 2 options. I couldn’t be happier. The tank literally cleared up within hours. I run filter floss on the top shelf, purigen and chemipure elite on shelf two.
There is a lot of area above the floss in chamber 2 , Doesn't the water go through the 3 slits directly across the top of the floss and right into the pump chamber , How much of it gets up to the top of chamber 2?
Good you do a quick setup vid for the fluval 32.5 ? I purchased 2 media baskets for my tank but it doesn't seem right. Thank and as always your stuff is the best.
This is actually cheaper than replacing the black sponge foam block monthly. That works out to 120 bucks a year, this is only 60 and the filter floss is 10 bucks a year with weekly floss changes. Not sure why anyone calls this expensive. Plus not having to ever touch and forcefully remove that nasty black sponge, I use to wring it out weekly and what came out was horrible, and also never having to remove it to get to your media.
Hi. What do you run in chamber 1 if you don't have there chamber 1 basket? Does having just the middle basket still make the improvement? I bought the evo without realising these baskets existed!! I've got the ps2 fluval skimmer in chamber 1....
With both baskets installed, how is any water going to flow through the top two compartments in the center media basket? It looks like the water would come into chamber one, flow down and out the holes into the bottom section of chamber two, then out the bottom and into the return chamber. Unless I'm missing something it seems like you'd be better off with one of these media baskets or the other, having both seems counterproductive.
@@inTankLLC Yes I understand that, but the flow from chamber 1 to chamber 2 would only pass through the lowest compartment of the middle basket which is far from ideal - but it's not your fault that Fluval designed the sump chamber so poorly...
@@DJBLUES1 It still flows through all 3 shelves. The bottom one will be more but since it is under water and the CH1 basket isn't sealed to the wall there still is flow.
Yes, with the Chamber Two Media Basket. Although it isn't the best skimmer it installs in chamber one, so you can use the chamber two media basket as well. Thanks.
@@inTankLLC In your opinion would it be better to put your media basket in chambers 1 & 2 instead of the Fluval skimmer? I just have a planted tank with white clouds.

@@inTankLLC Awesome! so I ordered the 2nd chamber basket. On the bottom I will put filter floss - ontop of that some Fluval biological filter in a media bag, and on top Chemipure blue. Would that work? Thanks for a timely response!
@@jdo20100224 Thank you. Yes that can work. The top shelf may be out of water unless you add more, which will cause the display to raise as well so it all depends on how high you like the water levels at. I have filter floss at the top of chamber 1 and carbon in the middle of chamber 1 and macro algae at the bottom of chamber 2. What did you folks put in the rest of the space out of curiosity?
I purchased the chamber #1 intank basket, however it does NOT help with surface skimming at all.....total film across the top of the water. I think a skimmer would help better than spending big bucks for your intank baskets.
Hi Pam - The Media Basket improves filtration and the ease of changing media and filter floss. If you need to improve surface skimming this is the product to do so: intankaquatics.com/intank-all-in-one-aquarium-surface-skimmer/ Thank you.
There really are not any good skimmers that fit this aquarium. So media basket in chamber 1 is the best option. Keep up with water changes - skimmer is not necessary for a successful aquarium and your stocking.
The surface skimmer piece...is that included with the intank media basket? or does that come with the tank? I have both...not sure which one you are using in this video....?

I just ordered the chamber one basket. But wouldn't the stock sponge in the second chamber be a great way to "remove" nitrates by simply replacing every 3 months or so? With weekly rinsing in between of course.
I can only buy one basket at the moment. Is chamber 1 media basket with empty chamber 2 considered to be better than stock (skimmer in 1 and sponge in 2)?
Any thoughts on a "short" chamber 1 design that rests on flange Fluval build inside chamber 1? I purchased this basket about a month ago and my only issue is that when I load the bottom tray with ceramic media it sometimes (if at all) will not go down into the chamber because the flange inside the chamber tries to enter the basket hitting the media and jams up. If I could load the media in the camber then rest my basket on the internal flange I wouldn't have to worry about how much is to little or too much inside the bottom chamber. Since this area is a "passive" filtration at the bottom and water is not really forced through media in the lower chamber I was just thinking it could be an improvement around the design constraints of a weird filtration system from Fluval.
Hey inTank Aquatics...I am thinking about getting your basket for the fluval spec. My question is that since the fluval spec 9 & 15 have that the opening at the bottom. would I need to put filter floss at the bottom also, or will the water just be directed to come from the top? It looks like the bottom slits will be blocked by your inTank wall. I am buying 3 new tanks, so trying to buy chamber two would be to much at the moment. What would chamber two be for a planted tank? For saltwater it makes sense.
Hey , i'm interested in the chamber 2 media basket because i have the skimmer running in chamber 1. My concern is that the chamber 2 basket is not 4 sided, which means that the water will still get though all the slots between chamber 1 and 2, So the water is not actually forced from top to bottom. Or am i wrong somewhere?
Correct, because of the way Fluval designed this aquarium. If you wanted it to act like a chamber one Media Basket you could block off the lower slots in chamber one causing water to flow to the top of the chamber two basket. Overall the chamber two basket forces water to flow from the left to the right, and then down to the bottom.
Hey. So I’m planning on ordering chamber one media basket. I have yet to get my Fluval evo 13.5, but when I do, what do I put in chamber 2 if all the media is in chamber 1? Do I leave it empty and use the plug?
Depends on your setup. Use the plug provided with the CH1 basket regardless. You can use our chamber two media basket for biological media, or create a refigium with chaeto. Or leave it empty. You can always add the CH2 basket later if you think it is needed. Thanks.
My goodness such a quirky design. Not the baskets, the tanks chambers. If I had one, I think I’d try to use a floss holder like you make for the Nuvo Fusions. Leave all the slits open, and use the chamber two basket for media.
Christian Di Vito Depends on your setup, we describe this in the video. You can use both for maximum filtration. If you are debating one or the other go with Chamber One. Media Baskets work best to keep the entire aquarium clean when under the intake. Thanks.
We make specific Baskets for the Coralife and Oceanic BioCubes. goo.gl/FXrJzr If you need help figuring out which one it is please send us an email from our site.
So I have two baskets on the way and was wondering which basket is best to use to put a refugium in? If I put it in the chamber one area can I put it below the filter floss? If I do that can I mount a light above or will I need to get one down below the filter floss and inside where I want to set up the refugium?
@@bradalford4540 No need for one. There are no units that fit and actually work that we are aware of. Use the baskets and water changes and you will have a great filtration setup.
Does it matter as far as effective filtration goes as to which chamber I decide to use? I bought the chamber 2 basket because that’s where the stock foam filter was.
Chamber one is a better location for a Media Basket as water hits it first, it also will catch detritus better as filter floss is up top right under the intake. But the chamber two basket can be used. At some point you may want to consider using the chamber two basket for biological media or macro algae. Then use the chamber one basket for filter floss and chemical media.
Yes - This works with both freshwater and salt. Use the Media Basket in chamber one for Filter floss, purigen and chemi pure green. Then use the chamber two basket for biological media like Seachem Matrix: intankaquatics.com/shop-by-tank/fluval/fluval-evo-13-5/
If the water level is too low in that chamber of your aquarium you would add more to the chamber while the filtration pump is on to bring the level up.
It's not expensive. replacing the black sponge monthly (which is not frequently at all) will cost you 120 bucks a year. This is only 60 and 10 bucks will get you enough filter pads for a year while replacing them weekly. Come on.
@@inTankLLC it arrived today, have the media you recommended. Soo excited. Forgot to ask, which chamber should uv light and heater be in? (Currently in chamber one)

Hi. I wasnt aware of these baskets before buying the evo and purchased the fluval ps2 skimmer. Does that mean I can just buy the chamber 2 basket and still get the same improvement on the flow through the media? Thanks.
@@gm8314 More or less yes. The chamber one basket forces water from the top to the bottom, but in your case and if you think the skimmer is beneficial the chamber two basket is a great upgrade.
Can you start with only chamber one and then add chamber two later or do you have to do both? Also what is your suggestion for what to add into the three sections of each chamber? I saw the "Floss" in the video, but what else would you recommend?
Yes. We would recommend starting with chamber one, some may never have a use for the chamber two basket. Chemical media depends on the type of aquarium. Generally Filter Floss | Purigen 10ml bag | Chemi Pure Blue or Green 5.5oz intankaquatics.com/filtration-media/
I’m using media basket 1 with the stock Skimmer in chamber 2 - if I remove the Skimmer in chamber 2 and add media basket 2 as well, surely media basket 1 which is now blocking off the top slits on the tank will stop the flow into the top shelf’s in media basket 2?
Hey Gary - You can add water to the 2nd chamber while the pump is ON to bring up the water level. Make sure to plug the hole in chamber 2 if you have not already, we do now offer a plug kit and upgraded CH1 water director to help with this. Because of the dumb Fluval design with all the slots in the chamber one baffle it may take a little play balancing the rear chamber level with the display. But most our customer have a higher water level and the entire basket is under water. The Ch1 Basket does not have a water tight seal on those slits. If you really want to improve and put in the work block off all but the exit hole slits with a thin piece of plastic. I'd test my waters first and see how you like before doing this, it's more of an ultimate mod bringing the tank to a true AIO design. inTank you intankaquatics.com/fluval-evo-13-5-water-director-and-plug-kit/

@@inTankLLC But if the water goes through the 3 slits in chamber one across the top of the floss and over to the pump chamber how much of the water gets up to the top of chamber 2 ?
@@dsanford12 Most of chamber two is submerged so water is moving throughout. Flow is likely a little stronger towards the bottom. Generally we recommend chamber two for biological media or macro algae. Filter floss is best under the intake in the chamber one basket.
Check your pump chamber. Fluval tapes the surface skimmer piece here when packing. If you can not find you can contact Fluval and they will send one out. Thanks.
Sounds like you may be blocking too much flow with the media. Tie any larger bags of media like chemi pure to the shelf above to pick it off the holes. Change filter floss regularly and feed with the filtration pump off.

i have a biocube 29 gal I don't know if it coralife or oceananic you have 2 different sizes basket witch one should I get
We make specific Baskets for the Coralife and Oceanic BioCubes. goo.gl/FXrJzr If you need help figuring out which one it is please send us an email from our site.
So I have two baskets on the way and was wondering which basket is best to use to put a refugium in? If I put it in the chamber one area can I put it below the filter floss? If I do that can I mount a light above or will I need to get one down below the filter floss and inside where I want to set up the refugium?
Chamber Two Basket is best for a Fuge. This was it's intended purpose. Light from the rear.
Cool thanks.
Also wondering if I'm running both baskets will I need a protein skimmer or be alright without one?
@@inTankLLC gotcha thank you
Are both black shelves in the one for section one removable? or just the middle portion?
The middle shelf is removable. The top and bottom shelf are fixed and give the Basket structure.
Should I upgrade if I use this for freshwater?
Yes - This works with both freshwater and salt. Use the Media Basket in chamber one for Filter floss, purigen and chemi pure green. Then use the chamber two basket for biological media like Seachem Matrix: intankaquatics.com/shop-by-tank/fluval/fluval-evo-13-5/
How does water get to the top shelfs in bay two looks like the water would be stagnent?
If the water level is too low in that chamber of your aquarium you would add more to the chamber while the filtration pump is on to bring the level up.
It looks great and very helpful, but its very expensive and I'm new to the hobby, should I do a refugium for panel 1 or a protein skimmer?
It's not expensive. replacing the black sponge monthly (which is not frequently at all) will cost you 120 bucks a year. This is only 60 and 10 bucks will get you enough filter pads for a year while replacing them weekly. Come on.
So if we upgrade to your system, do we need the Fluval skimmer?
Depends but generally we do not recommend their junky skimmer. The media Basket in chamber one with water changes will yield greater success.
@@inTankLLC thank you! Ordering now.
@@inTankLLC it arrived today, have the media you recommended. Soo excited.
Forgot to ask, which chamber should uv light and heater be in? (Currently in chamber one)
@@randimcmillan3148 Chamber 1 or 3
@@inTankLLC since I bought the chamber one inTank media basket, I guess that puts iv light and heater in 3. THANK YOU
how do i plug the second chamber if I currently have fish in it?
As discussed in the video you can use silicone, or super glue a small piece of plastic over the hole, or use a two part putty. All cure underwater. Or even easier use your since released plug kit: intankaquatics.com/fluval-evo-13-5-water-director-and-plug-kit/
will these work for the flex 32.5 gallon or do you have baskets for it??
We are working on specific baskets for the 32.5 or 123 L
@@inTankLLC Awesome... can u email me when u have them??
@@pressuredprepper4232 Yes. Send us a message here and we will file it to contact when ready :) intankaquatics.com/contact-intank/
Can media basket 1 and 2 fit the Fluval Spec 60L ?
Here are the products for the 60L intankaquatics.com/fluval-spec-16/
Thanks for the the information
Can you start with only chamber one and then add chamber two later or do you have to do both? Also what is your suggestion for what to add into the three sections of each chamber? I saw the "Floss" in the video, but what else would you recommend?
Yes. We would recommend starting with chamber one, some may never have a use for the chamber two basket. Chemical media depends on the type of aquarium. Generally Filter Floss | Purigen 10ml bag | Chemi Pure Blue or Green 5.5oz

I'd test my waters first and see how you like before doing this, it's more of an ultimate mod bringing the tank to a true AIO design.
inTank you

With media basket #1 I can't use the stock piece for overflow so I'm not supposed to use it
Correct. We now include our own water director with the Media Basket to use
Can we get these in the UK
Yes - Charterhouse Aquatics stocks our products

Hello, I'm from Québec, Canada, where can i buy these Media Baskets?
Thank you!
Francis Gagnon Sorry for the late response we just noticed this. You can purchase from intankaquatics.com
Have you ever considered selling used cars?
Have anyone using basket1 and 2 filter without skimmer and have no problem?
Yes, the Fluval skimmer under performs. A water change will do much more.
1. If I were to install the two baskets, would I also have to put in media for both or only one?
2. Where does the heater go?
1. Depending on what kind of aquarium you are setting up. In chamber one Basket use your mechanical and chemical media. In Chamber two Basket use biological media or macro algae.
2. Place a heater in chamber three - pump chamber
@@inTankLLC thank you
👍😁👍
i do not have the water deflector where can i get it at?
Check your pump chamber. Fluval tapes the surface skimmer piece here when packing. If you can not find you can contact Fluval and they will send one out. Thanks.
@@inTankLLC would the all in one surface skimmer work in place of that piece?
@@sanjkesh Yes
Did my man roll in on heelies? Lmaoooo
I didn't like it for my 32bio cube it overflowed to much its not the basket it my pump is to big i do like it on my 13.5 fulval frag tank
Sounds like you may be blocking too much flow with the media. Tie any larger bags of media like chemi pure to the shelf above to pick it off the holes. Change filter floss regularly and feed with the filtration pump off.
You wearing heelies on the intro?
LOL. StevieBoard AKA Segway MiniPro
How do you like the MiniPro? Thinking of getting one.
Stephane Picarda Love it so much fun and very safe. Literally ride on it every day during the warm months. It's even made using the leaf blower more efficient. Much better than the other hoverboards I've owned in the past. Also great reactions when taking the kid out on the stroller.
Awesome!
Good parts but very very very expensive for a piece of plastic.
We would be willing to send you a piece of plastic for much less.
@@inTankLLC unfortunately i live in europe so taxes are way more up when importing from usa.U did great job with the mods on the chambers of every tank but i thing they are just to expensive for the average person :) no offense
