The “I FORGOT TO PUT A TAPE IN” freak out is one of my favorite sunny moments of all time. Classic Charlie meltdown complete with Rob barely holding on for dear life.
The funniest thing about the actual scene (aside from the breaking) is that Charlie didn't forget. He realized his mistake after taping up the flashlight, but then chooses to go ahead without a videotape. He actively chose this state of events!
I think they kind of needed a bit of structure tbh. The last few episodes were getting a bit self-indulgent with too much rambling. Also, bonus episodes don't feel as special if they're coming out too often. The edited reaction format is nice because they're forced to comment (at least tangentially) on the episode for ~20 minutes before they start riffing on random stuff. This way the fans who want more episode discussion get what they want and fans who like the personal stories and banter get a decent dose of that too (without going overboard).
and while i can listen to them talk about anything i like when they talk about the episodes and their thoughts on it this also kind of makes sure they talk about the episode more than 5 minutes before tangents. But then again i also enjoy internet reviewer clip/reaction content so that could be a bias that i like this more.
So charismatic and effortlessly funny. A handful of my favorite characters from one of my favorite shows all in a room together? Great. The 3 of them have been bffs forever and have great chemistry? Even better.
Keep "making the show better" so long as that means keeping it fun for you guys. Fun for you = Entertaining for us. We're here to watch you guys have fun and talk.
However the podcast continues, whether it’s freewheeling, taking calls or rewatching “together” the thing that makes this the best is the camaraderie and banter between all four participants. It’s not pandering, not one giant ad, or you guys didn’t become friends on the show, you were there before. Just keep doing what you’re doing, it’s amazing. Personally, I love the tangents you go on within the structure of each episode. You start with a theme then go off different directions. It’s wonderful. Love it and makes me laugh every time.
The “Rob wincing to hide a grin” look is so classic to me that I spot em from a mile away 😆 I also enjoyed this format of you guys watching the episode in real time cuz I like laughing together with yinz 🤓
@@Skwadley maybe that they showed Dee as normal girl but we know that she tried to burn her roommate at college and also Dennis kept a file on her since they were kids
Could not disagree more. If the gang sees a fresh vein of humor in "revising" a character's history, then they should and in summation, I give you Exhibit A: Frank Frank's youth included a nitwit school, a du wop gang, amateur boxing, running Shadynasty's, became a business tycoon with after screwing his partner over in ...real estate then sweatshops then investments...banged Charlie's mom, after marrying Dennis and Dee's because he was very wealthy with a less nice penis.
I love seeing their live reactions to the episodes! Followed up with random chatter in between, it’s the perfect format. The public access segment had me rollin, too funny
I've liked every format so far, the original, the drinking episode, the call-in show, and now the real-time reactions. All have been hilarious and entertaining.
This is a fantastic idea, it gives the podcast much needed structure and it forces you guys to actually talk about the episode and then you riff at the end

yeah but listen to what Gleen says at the end about popular stuff and doing honest art, if they don't think it's good media they don't want to make it, they could stream or record anything and at this point the diehard fans will watch it and maybe enjot it, but they want to enjoy making it too
@@planetaoruga Yeah I totally get that but I think Charlie was already poisoned by the idea because he had already watched the ep the night before, Glenn and Rob were more receptive because it was something new to do and rightfully so since its already an extremely popular format. Normal format: Benifits from long tangents. New format: more of a deep dive into the episode. Suggestion: Choose new format for you're favourite episodes
8:40 is my new favorite moment from this cast, Glenn trying to devil's advocately philosophize that mysterious man's lifestyle for a whole 5 seconds until Charlie immediately doubles down and makes him realize the absurdity of his proposed stance is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while Thoughts on the format though, I think it works well just on the premise of having the content on hand which will probably lead to less forgetfulness and more insight. It's also just endearing to see you guys genuinely crack up at the show on the spot.
Charlie gotta be a bit less negative. Their stuff is funny no matter what they do, except for maybe the viewer call-ins, those weren't the best. But still Charlie's negativity was the only bad part of the episode this time, the commentary live worked really well

It works but it might lower the quality of Sunny itself since they will be busy with this. I love it tho and its getting better and better. Both the studio and the convo on last episodes improved.
I love when they call the old lady a crazy old racist and then the very next scene is them talking about how people in china town are gonna tokyo drift and then start doing karate
Yes the “watching along” adds some hilarious depth and scaffolding. I love random rants too.. but this ramps up the “hanging out with the gang” feeling even more, and it’s meta.
I really do love seeing you guys watch and react to the episode. That being said, if Charlie just wanted to mess around on the piano while Glenn and Rob discussed literally anything, i'd watch that too.
Glenn: expresses his concern about things they write now not being in line with lore they already established Me: "Really? Because--" Glenn: "--but then we ended up doing the skating episode anyway." Me: "Theeeeere it is." LOL Thumbs up for the self-awareness, guys. Makes it all the funnier!
There seemed to be some genuine disdain in his voice and eyes when he said that. I would imagine that was a long argument that he ultimately lost lol. And I would agree. That episode was easily the weakest of an otherwise superb season imo. Sunny does absurdity and expectation subversion with great mastery, but that episode seemed to have the proportions of those ingredients wildly off. The audience actually does care about these characters in large part because their foundational backstories are rather tragic, anything but absurd.
You could also say that that episode was another flashback episode where they can’t remember the facts or even making stuff up like the Seinfeld reenactment.
@@chandlerman23 that's totally how I expected the episode to end! I started writing about the unreliable narrator trope they often use but the comment was getting too long. They subverted our expectations by NOT subverting them. . . . which they have to done to great affect in many other instances, but this time around it felt, again, just absurd. I think in some way the entire show ends with some kind of unreliable narrator. That any semblance of normalcy we see from the gang might not really be there at all. That would ultimately absolve this episode of its continuity issues.
@@chandlerman23 The Gang's propensity for misrepresenting and misremembering past events is definitely well established at this point in the series. The Roller Rink episode absolutely felt like one of their usual collective delusions, albeit slightly less unhinged than usual.
I loved the skating episode. Idk why so many fans hated it. I thought the way it clashed with so much of the established lore made it so much better than the usual sitcom flashback episode.
This was a great idea boys, thanks for the episode! I have a request: could you perhaps add a Picture in Picture of the episode in the corner of the screen so we can watch along too?

This is one of my favorite episodes. Can't believe you guys didn't address that Charlie didn't put the tape in when recording the punch that catapulted the entire plot of recreating the scene! Rob trying not to break while he was screaming is the best!
I like the old format you have going best. The three of you riffing, going back over your own memories to describe the episode, randomly sharing personal anecdotes like Rob's burger fight, life difficulties, your own philosophy and ethics, etc. I think the more structure you impose risks taking away from you guys just being you, and that's the best part!
The unique addition of this format is getting to see that the creators really do find the show as funny as we do! Seems obvious, but seeing their reactions it's undeniable
I LOVE THIS VERSION FOR 2 REASONS: It keeps the guys on topic. i feel sometimes they can trail off to other things when i really want to hear their thoughts about the episode. ALSO, i really like seeing their real time reactions/laughs to the episode playing. #2: I agree with someone else who said it would be great if we can see the episode in picture in picture to watch with them, if youtube would allow.
His posture in this episode specifically stands out. Rob is very closed off to himself, Glenn is pretty average, but Charlie practically has an executive pose in that chair.
They probably make more money from podcast than the actual show. Charlie lowers himself to millions of commercials. This is probably preferable for him haha
FWIW I loved this format. I could see not doing it for every episode, but especially seeing Rob's reaction to each big funny moment since he hadn't seen it in so long, that was really fun.
Good format, it should definitely be "in the rotation" of how you do these. As a kid growing up in NYC in the 90's the Robin Byrd thing was hilarious. It was such an odd, specific thing and so of it's time. I feel like every boy in middle school / high school around that time knew about channel 35.

The short audio clips you weaved in from the show helped me remember what you’re referencing as you talk about specific scenes. It felt a little more grounded in rewatching episodes but you didn’t lose any of the hilarious random banter about other things. I think you nailed it here

I FORGOT TO PUT THE TAPE IN
@@vsezaye 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣
I was running low on tape, so I figured just stick with the flashlight while we got it!
I watched the episode before this podcast and I couldn't wait for the guys to mention it
The “I FORGOT TO PUT A TAPE IN” freak out is one of my favorite sunny moments of all time.
This is probably a good general format for the show. Doesn't have to be every episode or anything, but it is an appreciated direction.
Variety is like, the spice of life, man.
I like this idea! You guys could literally just stare into the camera and I'd watch it. No pressure at all, just be yourselves, we love you lol
So charismatic and effortlessly funny. A handful of my favorite characters from one of my favorite shows all in a room together? Great. The 3 of them have been bffs forever and have great chemistry? Even better.
Thirty years on the force, I've never seen anything like it. They stared into the camera for three hours. Without blinking.
they will probably start to argue among themselves just 10 seconds after they start staring and im okay with that lol
Keep "making the show better" so long as that means keeping it fun for you guys. Fun for you = Entertaining for us.
We're here to watch you guys have fun and talk.
THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE. I love that its like a DVD commentary, please do this more
However the podcast continues, whether it’s freewheeling, taking calls or rewatching “together” the thing that makes this the best is the camaraderie and banter between all four participants.
Rob is the one take Jake of the crew for sure
The way Charlie threw in “Baby let me bang your box!” at the end of the butthole song was absolutely hilarious
“The Gang Discovers DVD Commentary”
Absolutely love it, btw
The actual DVD commentary is excellent. The idea of doing another pass 15 years later is also greatly appreciated 🙏
I've prob watched this one two or three times, but it's my first time noticing Glenn's adorable camera moment at 29:33 😹🥰😹
Glenn actively concerning himself with the continuity of the show really reassures me as a fan and a creative who is hyper-aware of storyline 😂🙌
I feel so vindicated by "we ended up doing the skating episode anyway"
@@JenLight yes!!
@@JenLight what was wrong with the skating episode? was there something within it that messed with the continuity or lore?
@@Skwadley maybe that they showed Dee as normal girl but we know that she tried to burn her roommate at college and also Dennis kept a file on her since they were kids
Could not disagree more. If the gang sees a fresh vein of humor in "revising" a character's history, then they should and in summation, I give you Exhibit A: Frank
Frank's youth included a nitwit school, a du wop gang, amateur boxing, running Shadynasty's, became a business tycoon with after screwing his partner over in ...real estate then sweatshops then investments...banged Charlie's mom, after marrying Dennis and Dee's because he was very wealthy with a less nice penis.
I love seeing their live reactions to the episodes! Followed up with random chatter in between, it’s the perfect format. The public access segment had me rollin, too funny
what the fuck were they trying to plant in the minds of these children?
You guys can literally do anything for any amount of time.
We will watch.
And love and appreciate it.
I've liked every format so far, the original, the drinking episode, the call-in show, and now the real-time reactions. All have been hilarious and entertaining.
This is a fantastic idea, it gives the podcast much needed structure and it forces you guys to actually talk about the episode and then you riff at the end
I love the fact Rob and Glenn repeatedly say there's no show without Charlie and yet Charlie seems the least interested in doing anything related to the show lmao like he barely wants to do the podcast anymore
..i saw this too w/ the game of thrones writers..this brilliance & yet they were already over it in their minds 'cause they wanted to move on to their disney star wars gig..that's why the final season was so bad..charlie is in high demand for his style of comedy is..& bl@ckrock conglomerate wants that humor for their marketing..so he's over sunny but he's loyal..i think the one who really wanted to bail a long time ago to other projects is Dennis tho'

Glen is the dark one. But is so in tune with Evil Charlie, he immediately is in deescalate mode. Masterful.
These 3 need to be reminded how much we like them. I get that it might be hard or impossible to understand. But we're here each week to watch and listen to them talk. We don't care of the format or platform or whatever mundane detail(s) they're worried about.
Rob, Glenn, Charlie you can be humble all day long. But the fact is you have millions of fans that would watch and listen to you ride a tandem bicycle in a parking lot bullshitting about nothing. Get over it. We love you.
Right ! They’ve created a mini community. This is one of the only group of fans who feel like friends even if they’re strangers! Everytime I meet someone who’s a fan we hit it off right away ! Were here for the love !

The tandem bicycle has to be 3 “Ass Pounder 4000” bicycles put together though.
@@MattSeesGray hahaha yes it does!
charlie doesn't understand the react meta of new media like youtube and twitch people will 100% enjoy watching you guys react/rewatch an episode of the show and commentate through out. You guys could react to anything for that matter and people will watch. It has been that way for over a decade on youtube.
They seem out of touch at times.....but they're still RCG... nothing will ever take that away from them
they could react to newsreel footage of the vietnam war and it would still be funny
yeah but listen to what Gleen says at the end about popular stuff and doing honest art, if they don't think it's good media they don't want to make it, they could stream or record anything and at this point the diehard fans will watch it and maybe enjot it, but they want to enjoy making it too
@@planetaoruga Yeah I totally get that but I think Charlie was already poisoned by the idea because he had already watched the ep the night before, Glenn and Rob were more receptive because it was something new to do and rightfully so since its already an extremely popular format. If they could broadcast the episode in the podcast it would be even better.
the quality on these video podcasts is next level, I love how this started as audio only, now its basically a TV show
I love how Charlie seems like he’s always on the verge of quitting the pod cast. God bless him!
I’d be surprised if he stays. He doesn’t really seem happy doing the podcast lol

I can’t wait until 10 years from now when you guys do a podcast review of each podcast episode. I’m already excited.
I’m glad she brought up “cool face, hold it” bc that’s my favorite line of the episode 😂
"I'll talk you into it at some point" is an all time top five Dennis line.
Normal format: Benifits from long tangents.
New format: more of a deep dive into the episode.
Suggestion: Choose new format for you're favourite episodes
yahh
8:40 is my new favorite moment from this cast, Glenn trying to devil's advocately philosophize that mysterious man's lifestyle for a whole 5 seconds until Charlie immediately doubles down and makes him realize the absurdity of his proposed stance is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while
Thoughts on the format though, I think it works well just on the premise of having the content on hand which will probably lead to less forgetfulness and more insight. It's also just endearing to see you guys genuinely crack up at the show on the spot.
Charlie doesn’t have faith in that anything they do will work at this point
Haha ya, and funnily it all works every time. At least in my opinion
Charlie gotta be a bit less negative. Their stuff is funny no matter what they do, except for maybe the viewer call-ins, those weren't the best.
But still Charlie's negativity was the only bad part of the episode this time, the commentary live worked really well
Charlie is annoyed that he did the Prep work for the "Normal" style, which is a problem for the "New" style.
@@melbournepimp6929 YUP. Charlie has been coming off so ungrateful
@@lokithecat7225 oooh, the torture of needing to watch the same 25 minute piece of media in 2 days.
It's not like they heavily prep episodes, he didn't even get the memo about the change 2 days before showing up haha. He was just salty it was such a big change and he wasted some of his time. Didn't have to show it so much
“OOOOOOOOH YEAH! LETS CHOP CATS! LETS CHOP CATS!!” I swear to god Charlies improvs in this episode are so good! I still sing along to the “Channel whatever we make it on news” song! It all makes me laugh so hard to this day! 🤣😂
i am so continually impressed by charlie's musical skills. like i've been playing piano for 15 years and i could never improvise like him
26:31 In regards to logic for the plot, Dennis wants her to be famous so that he can benefit from her being famous. That's what I took away from it at the time anyway. He would get the perks of being famous, and someone else would actually be doing the work. Classic Dennis.
Something about the extras passing the same fish back and forth just makes this episode that much funnier 😂😂😂
charlie day, star of not only the most famous sunny meme but one of the internet’s most beloved images, saying how much he doesn’t car about memes and massively dragging all of us
Tbh, when I heard you guys are making a podcast, I thought this was the format you were going for since the titles are referencing the episodes. I actually prefer this format over the other but I don't mind you guys switching from time to time. Keeps things fresh.
I hate to say this. I love you Charlie, you're one of my favorite human beings, but your instinct might have been wrong, because I love this format.
Even more, I feel like at least at the start HE is the reason the format is not flowing right lol. Self fulfilling prophecy, I guess. I really love the idea though, hope they do it again with everyone going in blind this time.
He seems quite against the podcast in general to be honest lol
Yeah his constant complaining about things not working is what is making it not work. I'm willing to bet he won't be a regular podcast member before too long.
@@cameroncross2016 hopefully not as I love Charlie. Maybe he's just really busy at the moment so I wanna give him benefit of the doubt as you can't be positive all the time but yeah it's not always easy to listen to something someone clearly isn't enjoying across multiple EPs.
It works but it might lower the quality of Sunny itself since they will be busy with this. I love it tho and its getting better and better. Both the studio and the convo on last episodes improved.
43:33 I love how Glenn makes Robin Bird sound like a Villain from a 1980's cartoon
I love when they call the old lady a crazy old racist and then the very next scene is them talking about how people in china town are gonna tokyo drift and then start doing karate
Flat out racism vs ignorance
They literally say they are being racist while discussing it
glenns laugh is so contagious, i was in stitches just because he was
Yes the “watching along” adds some hilarious depth and scaffolding. I love random rants too.. but this ramps up the “hanging out with the gang” feeling even more, and it’s meta.
PLEASE do this format again. And especially for the next episode, it's always been my favourite!
nothing like watching 45 mins of sunny podcast at midnight before work in the morning.
It's currently 4 in the morning for me and I got up early to get donuts and listen to this before work
I know that game!
I really do love seeing you guys watch and react to the episode. That being said, if Charlie just wanted to mess around on the piano while Glenn and Rob discussed literally anything, i'd watch that too.
When Rob goes into the deep voice talking about Glenn's kink is hilarius.
Glenn: expresses his concern about things they write now not being in line with lore they already established
Me: "Really? Because--"
Glenn: "--but then we ended up doing the skating episode anyway."
Me: "Theeeeere it is." LOL
Thumbs up for the self-awareness, guys.
ANDY?! congrats on the new album!

love to listen on apple podcasts while im at work, then I always watch the youtube video at night and i absolutely love how fresh this podcast feels. you never know what format you’re gonna get when you tune in each monday and knowing I would be completely happy if it was the guys talking at a table each episode. they could play pool, cards, a board game and i. would. watch.
I liked how the format gave a very organized insight into the episode, choices, and reflections on such things.
Feedback: I love this format. The guys cracking themselves up is so good.
Damn how did they not show them watching " I FORGOT TO PUT A TAPE IN!"
Even after watching every episode so far, I still find it weird seeing how assertive Charlie is between the three of them
he's got some sass
All that Charlie work got to him.
It’s hilarious to see how different he is to his character on the show
His posture in this episode specifically stands out. Rob is very closed off to himself, Glenn is pretty average, but Charlie practically has an executive pose in that chair.
I'm worried the podcast isn't going to make it all 15 seasons. Charlie has not been happy with this whole thing the last couple of episodes.
They probably make more money from podcast than the actual show. Charlie lowers himself to millions of commercials. This is probably preferable for him haha
They just need to have different people involved
Yeah the vibe has been a bit off the last few
I love the format change because I like when the guys (and meg) talk about the show itself.
I love this podcast. I love that any iteration of the format is hilarious. They can do no wrong for me. Do want more doors being kicked in though.
I really admire how much hustle the guys put into the sponsor promos. Shilling like absolute champs lol
I'm such a creep that I want to watch people watching themselves...so this format works for me. Eventually I will record myself watching this podcast, so I can watch myself watching the podcast gang watching themselves.

The short audio clips you weaved in from the show helped me remember what you’re referencing as you talk about specific scenes. It felt a little more grounded in rewatching episodes but you didn’t lose any of the hilarious random banter about other things. I think you nailed it here
I used to get a kick out of Mac calling people bitch for no reason lol so funny
