The first few patches sounded very much like the Abyss. Dreadbox definitely has a specific character to its sound. Medusa is a lovely machine, I hope someday to play one without getting turned to stone. ^_^
This is such a great device. So obviously inspired. Plus it's great deal too; you get something like an Erebus 3, a quarter of a SEQ, a 64 pad MPE controller and free wavetables! Curious to see what the audio input can do; like the Mono Station maybe?
okeribok if you could use the ext in to sample into the wavetables slots, that would be amazing. Still such an incredible machine. Have mine on the way now :)
Hey, Dreadbox! In the other demo videos you have samples playing along Medusa's sequences. Is the unit sequencing them via MIDI from some DAW? How this work?
Michal Siecinski separate tracks/videos of music performance and sequences were recorded separately and then mixed together in one video. No DAW was used.
Not familiar at all with the other grid playing arrangements. It appears he's using the Medusa standard grid layout I played with it at Superbooth. It works where the bottom row is 8 increasing semitones (moving left to right), and the next higher row is also 8 semitones but starting 4 semitones higher. So, the bottom 2 rows would be for example: Row above bottom row: e0, f0, f#0, g0, g#0, a0, a#0, b0 Bottom row: c0, c#0, d0, d#0, e0, f0, f#0, g0 The concept is similar to a guitar or other stringed instrument...at least that helped me get my head around it.
GOOD NEWS: Sounds very, very good! BAD NEWS: (1) Very small OLED displays. They are plastic electronics, i.e., very low cost. The company should make them bigger 8 cm x 5 cm would be ok... (2) It would be good for the lovely MEDUSA to have an angle of 15 degrees.
You are assuming what I might be thinking. Are you a prophet or a phychologist to read my mind? I didn't meant that Polyend makes bad gear. You wrote that, I didn't... Companies and designers sometimes make mistakes. OLEDs are very cheap. They could make them bigger. Also if the MEDUSA had 15 degrees angle, you can perfectly work with it, from your studio desktop.
First of all you don't even know what you are talking about. OLEDs are plastic electronics and they are cheap as far as the price goes compare to regular electronics which cost much more. The founder of the technology is Sir Donal Bradley from Imperial College, now at Oxford college. This revolutionary innovation brings the costs down quite a lot. So the companies who manufacture their products have two choices: 1. To increase their profit margin by using low cost materials of very good quality like OLEDs and 2. To increase the size of displays for example without higher costs, that will not decrease their profits. Of course designers & engineers make mistakes when they are making decisions. Example: KORG brought back the SDD-3000 delay as a pedal, with high price. It didn't sell well so the company discontinued the product! In this example the marketing team were wrong! Nobody is perfect! Yes. 15 degree angle so you work much better. I'm not attacking the Polyend. I have the legal right of a free speech and to express my opinion. Companies who don't listen to what customers are saying and demand, sooner or later they go out of business! So, next time before you write something... think!
Trololo Inc > LOL, LOL, LOL!!! DREADBOX & Polyend while reading what I wrote, know very well what I'm talking about! You have just humiliated yourself in public! Have a great day!
You have NO idea about production costs. You see for example OLED TVs and you think they are expensive, because OLEDs are expensive! The marketing overcharges the new TVs because they are selling us a NEW technology! They increase their profit margin! That's the whole story! OLEDs have very, very low cost! DREADBOX & Polyend know exactly what I'm talking about..... I'm loosing my time with you. Have a great day!
I love the UI and features but the basic sound character itself just isn't that interesting to me, which is weird because I love their other stuff like the Erebus and Abyss. (Own both.) If I found one of these used super cheap (like $500) I'd pick one up but I'm not exactly dying to own one.
Or make it so that it can be flipped either way with a switch to orient the controls and outputs front and back. We would not even think about buying such a contraption because of the poor ergonomics that were not considered. Plus Raspberry Pi's and Linux are so cool.
"You should have pads on both sides. For left and right hand players." That doesn't increase usability, it just makes it obnoxious no matter the handedness.
if you're talking about the beginning of the video, that's most definitely an LFO on the oscillator pitch - lots of people use this as an effect on purpose. also it looks like each oscillator has an independent pitch knob, so it can be tuned perfectly to itself if that's a preferred sound
I love the idea, but I'm right-handed and it's just plain back to front. The bit that needs real-time dexterity is the pads, and they need to be on the right. Dead in the water for me I'm afraid.
I never claimed to be a strong player. I'm not a 'live' keyboard player by any stretch of the imagination. I had a few piano lessons 40 years ago as a kid, and I understand enough theory to get by, but primarily I'm a drummer that also got into synths. As I'm right handed and that side is much stronger I'd prefer the side I'm 'playing' to be on my right, hence my comment. Your mileage may vary but congratulations on the subtle put-down, I hope you feel all superior now.
yeah another pricey synth/sequencer combo. Is there any cheaper version available or planned in the near future? Otherwise im going with 2 behringer craves (for polyphonic) and a Beatstep pro for less than half the money and the exact same purpose with a replica moog mother 32 chipset which makes it prolly even better sounding. Couldn't compare these two so it's just a assumption. Don't get me wrong, this seems to be a solid product, but not for someone who doesn't can afford a grand for such a minor improvement to anys studio. The market is oversaturated with pricey shit, why are there only a few companies trying to make hardware more accessible?

Amazing Polish engineering!! Great job guys
Greek.
@@donkeevney Both, doesn't hurt to check.
Finally! It gets together what needs to be put together! I love it! Ultimate jammin‘ unit ❤️

Great demo thanks!!!
That design is perfect, looks like the black monolith in "2001 space oddysey" and my ears told me : "it sounds very good !"
This thing gets mixed reviews, but the raw sound engine sounds really nice.
this sounds super nice lol checkout the vid with the death by audio pedal, lovely.
Man, this looks like a lot of fun! Great stuff!
Thats something now..this kind of keyboard and seq...i looove it ..co,grat Dreadpeople!!

Are there any demos on how to upgrade to the latest Firmware (3.0) on a OS Catalina?
Love the possibilities.
Can’t get my head around the note input yet.
Is it MPC like note matrix?
More like Maschine/Ableton Push/Elektron even since you can parameter lock everything, per step. It looks that way, I don't have one obviously...yet.

ProckGnosis thanks, clear answer.
Graag gedaan.
Sometimes this sounds very much like the SH-101, but then the modulations make it sound like so much more!
Can you make a Medusa Keyboard (61 key) version?
Great Demo
can the Medusa sound as warm and creamy as the Erebus 2, it's obviously got the harsher edge covered, but what about the other side?
I just wish it had more external sequencing capability.
It would cannibalise other Polyend product. But it's a shame..
They are scheduled to release an individual controller later on in time with fully expanded control
sounds excellent awesome
Would like to hear some of that FM : )

Displays are for Pussies anyway.

please make a smaller "boutique version" ...
It here usb in and out for audio and midi like the ultra nova by novation or my sho 1 Gaia ? Peace Christo
Ok ok we got it, it has noise. Would love to see more elaborate sequencing and hear some quick release snappy sounds without decay, sustain.
soon she shall be mine!
Did you get one? Was it what you expected?
I waaaant
is it worth the 1000 buckaroos
Is it iOS native with a camera connection kit? Peace Christo
I wish it was button grid on the right... would be much more natural for me :
awww pleaswe send me one
Get Nick Batt o demonstrate it

You can cross your hands.
No thanks.
Just learn to read upside down. It'll be a worthwhile trip, which in turn will inspire you to make upside down music.

Is there a type of name for the first synth
gabagool sr.
Looks Kool price point lil to high for lil more u can get mpc live and be able to do alot more
Either this is comment is superbly witty or incredibly dense.
Is it out of tune with itself on purpose? Doesn't sound so great...

Not a fan of Boards of Canada then :)
I could tell it was purposeful but have to agree that it does sour my ears.
...that was just one patch that included pitch modulation.
The pitch is being modulated dude, lol
pilotredsun machine
No effects? 🤔🤷🏻♂️✌️

Not overly impressed by the sound
Lame. It is a Demo about Sounds that EVERY Synth can do.
