Nice video. Some people prefer going to Jamaica and getting the E-train. The A-train can be a long wait in the cold!

    Hi,
Will be our first time in NYC and looking for a bit of up-to-date advice as earlier answers are quite dated. We will be taking the following route:
    JFK T8 >> Howard Beach AirTrain >> Subway A >> Marriott, Downtown
We plan to buy 7-Days Unlimited MetroCard for our local commute. I would appreciate if someone with the latest experience can answer the following questions from a tourist perspective.
    1. Can I buy 7-days new MetroCard and add $5 value on the same card from the vending machines at Howard Beach Station BEFORE exiting AirTrain turnstiles? or
    2. Do I have to buy 7-Days Unlimited card separately after exiting AirTrain turnstiles to the street at Howard Beach, and then proceed to Subway turnstiles?
This might be silly to ask, however, there are various contradicting posts which suggest that
    1. As card issuing authority at AirTrain is different from MTA so I cannot add time/days on those cards, but can only add value.
    3. Some even suggest that it is not possible at all to buy Unlimited cards from AirTrain vending machines, and can only buy Pay-Per-Ride cards.
I am aware there is also an option to buy Airtrain+Subway combination card in a single transaction, however, that means I will pay $2.75/pax extra to reach my destination. So I do really want to buy Unlimited 7-Days card right from the start of our local journey at Howard Beach Station.
    Thank you

The machines at Howard Beach and Jamaica don’t sell Unlimited Ride cards for the subway, and you can’t add an unlimited ride fee to a card you buy at the machines at those stations. This is because AirTrain and the subway are managed by 2 different agencies.
Buy the Unlimited Ride card from an authorized vendor at Howard Beach or Jamaica (you’ll have to pay cash) and then use a machine to add the AirTrain fee.

Always expect your A train to leave the platform as you get off your AirTrain.

Hi, Great Videos. Can we buy 7-Days unlimited MetroCard at Howard Beach Station and add the value of $5 on the same card before exiting AirTrain turnstiles OR do we need to exit to the street and buy 7 Day card from a regular vending machine? Thank you

+André Rocher to pay for the AirTrain you have to use your unlimited metro card. To get the metro card, before he reaches the turnstile when he gets out of the AirTrain, there are metro card machines to your right to purchase them.
