Just realized my flight would arrive to Newark, so I was very nervous about how to get to Manhattan. This was so straightforward, now I’m not afraid anymore!
@@Castaways_TravelI have a 5.5 hour layover at Newark tomorrow. I think this idea will work. Do you think I can get to penn station, walk around some sites, and back to my gate within that time frame?
Just booked the flight today for my trip to NYC in July and getting off at Newark airport and out of all the vids I’ve saw on how to get to Penn Station this is by far the best.
Thanks! We actually just booked a short NYC trip as well. Great prices right now, we couldn’t resist. But we’re flying in to Newark again too. Should be a super easy commute to Manhattan. Thanks for watching.
They opened a new Terminal A in January 2023. The air train does not currently stop there. You have to take a shuttle bus outside baggage claim to go to terminal B and then switch to the air train there.
I want to say THANK YOU because of this video i traveled last week to NY and I did everything you mentioned in this video. I felt comfortable taking the airtrain to NY. ❤and everything went smoothly.
🥹 that’s really awesome to hear! We know how stressful traveling can be. The whole reason we made this video is because we didn’t see a better version out there already. We’re glad you found it helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for posting this! I'll be travelling to New York by myself and I always get so nervous navigating unfamiliar places. This is so helpful.
Thank you for this, I’m visiting New York for the first time in October and was a bit worried about getting the train but it seems really simple! This was really helpful.
Thank you. It looked like the tickets were $30 (back then) to Penn Station. We have 4 people going to mid-east Manhattan so its probably cheaper by Uber or taxi for us.
I really want to thank you for the awesome SHORT video. I'm flying to New York for the first time, my family including, so I was quite nervous. Now I hope everything will go smoothly (unless we depart at Newark Penn Station ;))
No problem! We’re glad you found it helpful. We had no idea this video would turn out to be as useful as it has. We’re actually on our way back to NY for our second trip ever next week. Can’t wait! Have fun!! 🥶
According to this map the Newark Airport has accessibility to the NJ Transit. content.njtransit.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/maps/NJT%20System%20Map%20April%202023.pdf
OK I just did the air train but I had a issue. If you do a round-trip, make sure you get both tickets and a receipt. I waited and got one ticket, thinking that was round-trip. But no and then when I got into NYC I went to Customer service and they’ll only get you a courtesy pass up until the Airport.
The air train is only for and does not leave the Newark airport. The NJ transit goes to Penn Station Newark and Penn Station New York. You’ll have to check their website for prices. We are not affiliated with any public transportation companies. www.njtransit.com/
Appreciate it! It's helpful. I have a question. Why both NYC and Newark call their own stations xxx penn station? What does penn here stands for? Pennsylvania?
The Penn Station name extends from the fact that the old Pennsylvania Railroad built many of these stations back in the early 20th century. At that time, different railroad companies typically used different stations, especially in major cities or towns, so the station usually took the name of the company. If various railroads combined to use the same depot, the place often took the name Union Station. (That's why you see so many of those, too.) "They're all named for the Pennsylvania Railroad,"
We are not aware of any specific train schedules. Try the New Jersey Transit website at www.njtransit.com. It’s a pretty user friendly website and easy to navigate.
If you’re talking about for NY Metro public transportation then yes you can still buy a physical metro card and put money on it for swipes on the subway and MTA buses. If you’re talking about the NJ Transit I have no idea, you’ll have to refer to the NJ Transit website for more information.
As far as I know. I believe the area we are seated at in the video is more applicable for overhead luggage storage. The other seating areas are forward facing seats.
Questions. I never been to NYC and planning a trip so when you buy tickets and it have more then one train ride do you have to be there at the time your ticket say? What if I have a ticket and I miss my ride can I still use my ticket for the next trian or do I have to buy a new ticket?
Check the NJ Transit hours. You’ll have to enter your to and from locations to see. Looks like Newark Airport to New York runs til about 130a. www.njtransit.com/train-to?origin=Newark%20Airport%20Rail%20Station&destination=Penn%20Station%20New%20York&date=02%2F13%2F2024
Yes you can purchase tickets on the NJ Transit App. I haven’t used it myself but their website site says you can buy and display tickets via the app. www.njtransit.com/app
Yup. Just don’t forget to select “round trip” in Newark and pay attention to where in Penn Station your train docks and it should be the same trip in reverse order when you return.
So from Newark Airport we just need to buy only 1 ticket to get to NY Penn Station? No other purchases? Are the fare prices still the same as of today (7/19/23)?
If you are traveling by train then yes you would only need to purchase one ticket to get to NY Penn Station from Newark Airport as the air train is free. I have no idea what current prices are though. You might want to check the NJ Transit webpage for route schedules or download the NJ Transit Mobile App for specific ticket prices.
@edilmarys take nj transit bus that goes to newark nj penn Station and transfer to path Train to Madison Square garden in Midtown NYC. There are additional stops at Christopher st,west 8th street .I do not remember if the transfer is free. Even if it is not free, it is 2.95 + 2.95 !
The train ride is approximately 20-30 minutes long and google maps says Penn Station is a short 12 minute walk away from Times Square. Thanks for watching!

The route in the video takes you to NY Penn Station. You can take another route from there to go directly to Times Square or a short 10 min walk will get you there too.
I think it may have gone up slightly since January 2022. I have read $15.50-$16.00 on different articles posted at different times since the trip in this video.
Wow! No more awful bus ride to the New York Port Authority bus terminal. You left out the most important parts though, the times and the price, and how long is the ride, total from the airport to Penn Station NY?
