this song was for samantha, not everyone in her life accepted her and her wife so it was an homage to that.
Thank you Eliza, that make alot of sense. I totally get why this would have such a strong meaning for her.
An often overlooked song from that season and i wish more people would check this out, its such a nice version of Pink's song.
Tim has a great voice and deserves a bigger audience than he is gets.
2019 was one hell of a season for Beste Zangers, every singer had a lot to offer and the diversity was great.

Tim absolutely nailed that, and it's particular relevance to Samatha.
But I hear huge similarities between this song and Ralf McTell's "Streets Of London" from half a century ago.
We don't seem to have come far :-(

Tim Akkermans was the lead singer of the band Di-rect and after a view years he decided to quit and go solo. That whas bad decision for him . because Di-rect found a new lead singer called Marcel van Veenendaal on a audition tv show. And after that moment Di-rect shoutit sky hy and became very big. So whiteout this Tim Akkermans. But tim realy can sing . greets Jacco from Holland

Tim, a real rocker, did the song for Samantha.
A song originally by Pink (2006) in which she criticizes several areas of Bush's administration like opposition to gay marriage and the gay rights movement in general.
And Tim wondered why people in 2019 (for God's sake, it's 2019!!!!) still opposes gay rights.
And Samantha is married to a woman.

Yeah, that version that Pink did Live from Wembly was kind of the benchmark for me, but this performance may take that one over for me.
Don't forget the other item of the Bush administration being criticized here... the invasion of Iraq. There is a version of it with The Chicks around the time Natalie Mains ran afoul of the press and such by being very critical of Bush...
As an exercise, take the song but listen to it in terms of the Trump administration, with the economic disaster, covid, the eviction crisis, and everything else. No disrespect, but I'm not sure how it makes one feel happy. I can easily understand feelings like hurt, pain, sadness, betrayal, anger, pissed off, condemnation, disbelief, fear, etc, but happy just doesn't seem to fit in my book.

I agree, about Floor. She is the first lady of the music fans. And who is also sympathetic is Rolf. Last monday i met him just before the door of the supermarket and spoke him about his "sound engineer" because in 2018 he was also having dialyse just as my (almost 2 years ago passed away) girlfriend. Have a picture together with Rolf,his mother made it 😉

You owe it to yourself to watch the entire season with subtitles. It's just outstanding. Denise Hofs has some of the episodes on youtube (inluding the first episode where Emma does Sex Machine), when they got blocked she uploaded them to vimeo. I think Jenniezef also has some of them.
Tim is actually a rock singer, not country. He started young with Di-rect whe he was like 19. He does a really good job on Bruce Springsteen songs IMO, there are some on yt.
And yes, the studio band (Marcel Fisser Band?) is phenomenal. That's why Floor took them with her on her solo tour of the Netherlands (which isn't finished because of Covid).

Tim was actually performing for Samantha, so maybe you can find the subtitled entire episode, episode 2 :). Tim is actually a rock singer, he used to be the band-leader of Di-rect. In certain songs, with his gritty rock voice, he does indeed sound like a country-singer :).
BTW, Emmas' surname is pronouced Hays-turs, if that is of any help :).

Tim nails this song. I believe this is a song Pink either wrote or covered. The female backup singer on this show is amazing. Anyone know her name or if she is in another band or performs?
Name of the backing singer is Lesley van der Aa. In 2007 she released her own CD called "Feels Like Home". But she is best known for roles in theater performances and more recently as a backing vocalist in various (Dutch) bands such as Jan Smit, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Marcel Fisser Band (performing in Beste Zangers), Nick & Simon and 3JS.

Tim was a part of the Dutch rockband Di-rect, they were very popular and scored some big hits. But Tim wasn't in with his heart and soul, and left the band to pursuit a solo singer songwriter career.

The band are performers with a completed education at the conservatorium. Which is actually a higher educational level towards a career of professional in the music, acting or dancing business.
My mother's nephew was also someone of the same caliber and they called him locally the Dutch Eric Clapton of the North (of the Netherlands).
He could play anything effortlessly and hell out of his guitar whilst he himself barely moved. Kinda like those human statues you see sometimes.
But yeah, the musical education is really high level in the Netherlands. Which has the added benefit that you can see these amazing upcoming artists all around in festivals and pubs. Some pubs have open jam sessions too.
Personally I think the country is underrated in this area and could do with some better advertisement.
For example... Marvin Gaye moved to the Netherlands and wrote his most famous song Sexual Healing here.
Even the Penguins, famous from their song "Earth Angel" as played in Back to the Future, have settled here.
But there is so much more stuff around that had Dutch influence, sometimes for better other times for worse. Elvis Presley's manager was Dutch.
It's a small country but don't let its physical size fool you.

there is a new episode of beste zangers , it is 1 episode as a tribute to 60 years of musicals in the netherlands it is hosted by edsilia rombley ( she is one of the lady,s of soul singers ) there are 2 musicalstars ( Kim -lian van der meij and rene van kooten ) in it and emma heesters , rene froger , lenny kurh ( she ones won eurovision contest for the nethelands ) and thomas berge , they all sang 2 songs 1 solo and 1 duet check it out there are a vieuw very pretty song in it

Sirr, I'll introduce to you all the original styles.. Floor = symphonic metal. Henk = musical/Opera. Tim = poprock. Samantha = Dutch folk. Emma = you tube covers. Ruben = singer songwriter pop. Rolf = Latin. And this song was a tribute to Samantha, is original Pink and it's mostly of the line what kind of father would hate his kid to be gay.
This song brings me to years. Beautiful. Slight shame that Rolf, bless him, had to talk over it. Henk doesn't like it!
Have you tried the song Tim sang for Henk? A Dutch version of Bring Him Home from Les Miserables, which Henk has apparently been in. It's also gorgeous.
A bit of an overreaction, I think. You could hardly hear Rolf and it was during a rest in the vocals. I guess Henk was being the classic Dutch Uncle. 😉

I agree there are alot of "over reactions" on some reaction video's and it seems to work for some people, but if I tried that I don't think it wouldn't be good for anyone. Could you possibly make a reaction video to either Clown by O'G3ne (I think they were on Beste Zangers in 2016 or 2017 and have competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017) or Maan with Ze Huilt Maar Ze Lacht (that song is actually not from the Beste Zangers, but Maan did participate in both the Voice and Beste Zangers).
