- Checking out this amazing performance by Rolf Sanhez for Floor Jansen on her night on the Beste Zangers series. This has to be one of my favorite renditions of this song to date, he killed it, and probably one of my favorite reactions so far.

I told you before, in this episode of Floor, everyone outdid themselves. This original song is emotional but sad. In Rolf's performance, the song became emotional and cheerful, like an evocation of good times. What you felt tonight I felt (and everyone else, I'm sure) every time I listened it. Thanks :)

And that guy on the sax - I don't know if you noticed, but he is a true multi-instrumentalist, as he is also a great violinist!
It is hard to imagine two more different instruments, so I am sure he has some more we haven't seen too!
Yes, Floor was in the first intake of the Rock academy - a degree level course, and she is still their greatest success.
Three years there then selectively taking courses with coaches who visited, including at the conservatoire, where she did over a year of musical theatre and opera - all while singing and (after the first year or so) leading and writing for After Forever! It was during this time that she opened for Nightwish at a few shows, and they heard her and she heard them. When After Forever broke up she did some vocal coaching herself and formed ReVamp, and ran every detail herself, writing, performing and managing, so much that after releasing one album and starting work on a second, which was almost complete, she had her burnout.
When she was just about recovered, at her sister's wedding, she got the call from Nightwish - they were up whatsit creek and she was the only paddle they all agreed would be capable of extricating them - could she fly out to Salt Lake City by the following day and learn the setlist on the way? She'd have one more day while they travelled to Seattle to finish learning the setlist.
The rest, as they say, is herstory!

The introduction summary: Samantha is a mainly Dutch singer herself. But she likes to listen to women power houses, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Diana Ross and Celine Dion. Samantha is also a Lesbian. Her parents had a difficult time with it (her being with a women) at the beginning, but turned around later on luckily. So this song was a statement for equality. Tim Akkerman was the lead singer of the band Direct, a rock band. So i guess his main genre is rock. His voice sometimes reminds me of Brian Adams... They also talk about Pink's version, and her being a great artist/ performer. Afterwards they praise Tim for bringing over the emotions the way he did. But you noticed already. Nice one!

If you want to see the original writer of this song (Don Felder) and Sammy Hagar sing it there is video of them doing it her on YT. Sammy has a show on AXSTV called Rock and Roll Road Trip and he went and interviewed Don in Las Vegas and they sang this and Don did the complete guitar solo at the end of the song, which they never play on radio. Even Sammy was impressed with his guitar work and he was in a band with Eddie Van Halen!

Yeah, I kind of had to. After reacting originally to Emma Heesters performance to Floor, I was told and even realised all of these artist gained a lot of respect for eachother and would really put on a performance for each other.

When I first heard this, instant love! I think my reaction was about the same as yours!
The Eagles belonged to my youth back in the 70s, so usually their music involves nostalgia, memories, a happy life. Everything we did when we were 14-17 ...
I might be a bit later, I don't think I heard the song until the 90's but somehow I latched on to it. but still the same, it reminds me of good times as well

My very top favorite of all the non-floor performances. And I would be surprised if his decision to storytell the number wasn't influenced by how Floor, herself, told a story with every song she sang ... her facial expressions, her gestures, her vocal emphases. The joy was intoxicating all around. But that was how all of the show I've seen went. These people became friends and fans of one another. And it started with Floor, the very first performer of this series and the least known by the others, who blessed Henk with a song he loved from his youth. She set the tone. Humble. Brilliantly talented. Friendly. I was almost as happy to see your reaction I was to see Floor's. Great job, sir. Cheers!
Thank man, I started to notice that as i was going through the original performances from Floor to them, that they were becoming really friendly with eachother. and then i saw Emma's performance to Floor, and i realized they all respected eachother and was going to put on a great performance at all times.
Heard someone once say something like "He turned it from a quite dreary place to a spot you actually want to visit on a holiday".
I just knew this would blow your mind, as it did for me (and still does)
The Latin sauce fits so well... oooh so well with the song, he... Cali-Mex'd it? i wouldnt know how to call his (and the band's) take on this song, the trumpet and sax.. its just perfect.
And needles to say this is still one of my favorite performances of the season, to take on that big a classic and give it that subtle twist making it like its a new song again is just amazing if you can do that, and Rolf sure did!
And now i cant wait for your reaction to Uncle Henk because he too will blow you away, prepare for jaw drops and spinal shivers hehehe.
Ofc again that "little" band behind them helps a great deal as well, they are such professionals and very talented musicians, any instrument is played to perfection and even the backing vocals are always the perfect fit. (they do work with a lot of famous singers on tours, whenever not involved in tv productions)
And last words on Rolf... he's such a good performer with a great and pleasant voice, a great smile and inviting personality, you just know he can get any party started of right.

It really did, as I've said in a few other comments, it was literally like falling in love all over again. I honestly think i was blushing at some point during that performance. And I have to agree about Rolf, he seems like the kind of dude that would make any evening a ton of fun

He nailed it, didn't he? When these started popping out among the fanhood, I watched the first one of Floor and recognized Samantha from her Voice audition in all those compilations out there, so I knew she could belt it out if needs be, and I had gotten a few recommendations for Emma but never watched any (oddly as I was watching her performances on this show, YT stopped putting her into my recommendations on my other music log in) but I knew her face. Rolf, Ruben, Tim, and Henk, were unknown to me totally. Since, I've seen other seasons of this and while one or two really impress me (Og3ne especially, but I knew of them from The Voice stuff as well), this season was by far the best, every episode, and not just for Floor's knocking it out the park, but the rest knocking it out nearly every single time. The people who put this together got so lucky this season.

I heard this months ago, and I liked it, but it is even better than I remember it being. Wonderful.
As someone here mentioned, his style is reggaeton, which is essentially a mix of reggae and salsa, and it shows the way he performs. Really lovely. The reggae beat provides the totally uncomplicated lead for the story, the salsa infusion makes it so happy, so loving ....

About this performance of Hotel California: In the beginning you said it had a Ska or Reaggea beat, but it's actually Latin music, which is what Rolf does. Someone in another comment remarked (and I couldn't agree more) that the original song is about a hotel you can't wait to leave, but in Rolf's rendition it's a hotel you can't wait to visit ;-)

Sadly you did not allow the video to finish and get some of the reaction dialogue from the singers. Disappointed. Rolf and band really out did themselves. For us this is one of the top highlights of the season.
Hi Ron & Joanne, I'm a bit confused. I let the Video play right until the next one started before i stopped it. I just double checked my vid to the one I watched and they both end when Floor said she wanted more. Sorry if there was more to what happened on the show, but that was really all there was on the vidoe I watched.
