That guy is completely mental :-D

It's been said before, if 2016 had the fans that Feig says it has then we would have been watching a sequel to that film and not Afterlife - why would they return to the original films when the new ones are successful? That alone tells you there isn't a fanbase significant enough to matter(not that anyone is shocked or surprised by that). It's entirely possible that they always were including a digital copy but even if they added it, it is still a middle finger to Feig. It won't cost Sony much if anything since anyone interested in the real GB films won't even watch or download it so in the end, and any fans of his film already have it and won't be buying this so they are literally out almost nothing other than the cost of printing the download sheet. It is an empty gesture, a "shut the f up" move by Sony and I love it.
It's interesting to see Paul Feig demand a level of respect for his film which he denied the original. If GB 2016 was a huge success does anybody seriously believe he'd be promoting the original film right now? He showed zero respect for the franchise but expects that he's owed respect in return.
Fans of 2016 won't buy the collection because the only movie they care about is a digital download, and fans of the original films that buy the collection won't use the download code. No matter what, Feig loses.
It's literally the equivalent of the kid who got last place in something running up to the podium screaming and crying, grabbing the first place trophy, breaking it, and continuing to throw a tantrum until he's given a water bottle someone spray painted gold in back to give to him just so he'd shut the fuck up, and now he's acting like he just won ALL the Oscars for it
I just love how smug he is. I bet he was imaging the look on Feig's face after hearing him, especially after Feig ignored his and Ivan Rietman's advice making that bomb.
Dan Aykroyd: "You could halve the budget and still make a Ghostbusters film and still make money." Paul Feig: "I like to see you try." Dan Aykroyd: *Hands him a copy of GB:Afterlife* The problem you have Paul is - like your films - you have to make it all about you. (Insert clip of him talking about the clip of the reshoots required).
I was never buying the set anyway (Cheaper to get them separately) but I see no issue in 2016 being a digital code. This is more of a "This is as good as you're gonna get, now fuck off"
Of course it's cheaper to buy them separately. That's not really the point of the set, it's the exclusive content which will be available nowhere else.
the most damning thing about feig's unprofessionalism that you pointed out was the fact that he felt it was more important for him to troll the atc haters instead of actually thanking his "fans" for their support.
As far as the current Intersectional 'narrative' goes ... EVERYBODY is a fan ... EVERYBODY loves them, their ideas, their direction, their aims, their actions and them personally ... Therefore those who speak out in anyway with anything short of absolute adulation MUST be a minority of rabid psychopaths...and motivated by HATE too since they are attacking the champions of LOVE and FAIRNESS ..... Nobody actually believes that of course, but as with all 'great narratives' it is essential to keep it going at all costs. A bit long winded I know, but it sort of answers your original point. There was no need to 'thank the fans' since everybody out there is one already....
So Paul is proud that his movie won an award that the CGI Alvin and the Chipmunks movies won? Also, there are no words to express how hilarious Paul's humiliation is. Sony losing money cause of this hack, Paul is screwed!
I don’t think Feig is a hack at all. Bridesmaids and The Heat are both hilarious and believable. That he’s choosing this hill to die on informs his insecurities. Were I him, I’d be switching sides and crapping on my own movie.
Wish there was a way we could see a "download counter" to the 2016 version to see how abysmal it really is to the fanbase. You know, to prove the point that we DON'T want it.
@Krut Hawort I think you're right about Ernie Hudson. He was in Dragonball: Evolution. After the GB reboot was announced but before he was involved, he posted on Facebook that he thought it was a "bad idea".
@Krut Hawort Ernie Hudson never turns down a chance to get paid. He auditioned to be the voice of Winston in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, because the man has nothing going on.
@@goth_ross Definitely; he's done way more stuff than just Ghostbusters. I think he just likes to work and isn't a snob that thinks he's "too good" for certain roles. I seriously doubt he had any idea what "Dragonball" was when he agreed to do that movie. (He's mentioned his kids hating the Commodore 64 Ghostbusters game, so they would have been adults by that point and not into Dragonball.) I don't get why @FireRising86 thinks Hudson auditioning to reprise Winston in the cartoon is somehow bad or pathetic. Keanu Reaves, Alex Winter, and George Carlin reprised their roles in the Bill & Ted cartoon. (For the first season, anyway. For the second season, some idiot decided to replace them with the cast of the failed Bill & Ted live action TV series.) It annoys me when the Red Letter Media guys mock him for appearing at conventions and say that his character wasn't necessary and shouldn't have been in Ghostbusters II (his only value apparently being an audience POV character).

Throwing the digital code for the 2016 film into the set is a very Japanese gesture. Sitting at the feast, they have tossed Feig a gnawed bone. It expresses contempt. It causes him to lose face. And Sony can say, blandly, "We included the film in a way consistent with its merits". Very Japanese.
I already got Ghostbusters 2016 digitally-for free, when I signed up for a digital movies account. Admittedly I’m not a Ghostbusters fan, but I still watched less than half due to boredom.

I've never used any of those digital download codes, even for movies I liked. I remember reading one about one of these studios' digital download services that they just shut down.
When I saw the announcement of it been included as a digital, I kind of laughed at that. Like a few others I saw it as brilliant way of doing malicious compliance by Sony and their way of thumbing their noses at him. You are not paying extra for that rubbish and one can simply ignore it and throw away the slip of paper the code was on. No harm no foul. To me the only one left with egg on his face was Paul Feig.
I’m glad 2016 ghostbusters was not physically included in the Ultimate set, because it was really embarrassing and Paul was trying to erase the Legacy of Harold Ramis
Leave it to you guys to break things down in a clear and objective manner. Never would’ve figured the physical exclusion of the 2016 movie disk was to avoid paying extra royalties. That puts everything into perspective. This whole thing is just a shitshow and a time bomb waiting to go off. I think that if Feig (or people like Leslie Jones too) continues to run their mouths on twitter, Sony will eventually have to bring the hammer down on them and order them to shut up. It’s getting to a point where their petty drama will significantly affect sales and Sony might have to lawyer up from their obstruction.
I agree with this theory since it does take time to organize code redemption and sony did it blazing fast. Production, logistics, and design take time and money, and yet, they were able to just get it in there? Pre-planned codes make more sense.
@@coreylevine8095 Is that the one with the two guys and the gorilla, i.e. not these ghostbusters at all? Or was that another spinoff in the universe of the original 1984 film?
This is one of those "Keep your mouth shut and wait" things that Feig was never taught either as a child or in the schools he went to. It's not unheard of for teaser announcements, they happen often. Problem is, people tend to look at the surface level all too often, esp. in today's day and age. They see what they want to see and misread the stuff very often. If he had kept his fingers off his phone and stayed off Twitter until AFTER the real announcement (where details are released), he wouldn't have made an ass out of himself. As a result of his blunder, Sony is now going to potentially lose money because to some people, Sony caved. Sony caving means they bent the knee, and it results in those opposed to the knee benders to walk away. It'll most likely make Sony blacklist Feig and anyone connected to him since they lost money from 2016. His words will have lasting impact. For me, I'm just sitting on the sidelines, popcorn in hand and munching away.
In my opinion, the digital copy is genius. Now when the box set comes out, they can find out just how many people actually wanted his version. I'd say it will come as no surprise to many that the download code will be used by a very small percentage.
“and it won the Kids Choice Award…” Imagine using that as an argument as an adult filmmaker. “Um, Doctor, I’m not going to brush my teeth, and I’m only going to eat Reese’s Cups and drink Mountain Dew. I mean, kids do it.”
I changed my mind about canceling my order for the Ultimate Collection when it was pointed out that I wouldn't have to look at a disc of 'Answer the Call' when I opened the Collection ghost trap. I would urge anyone thinking of canceling their order to stop and think, as I did. It is a beautiful collection and I wouldn't want anyone to miss out because of a digital download that you'll never see unless you look for it.
The best part of his Twit was mentioning Bill, Dan and Ernie was in it forgetting the Sony hack where it was revealed Sony was going to sue them if they refused to be in Feig's shitty movie!!!
I'm thrilled that you guys are putting out more regular content. Midnight's Edge is pretty much the BEST pop culture news out there. Hell I even listen to your reports on IPs I am not even that interested in.
If you buy the set and do not download Feig's film, and if many others do that too, that will send an even stronger message to Sony. This is only a free digital copy to appease the twitterazis and embarrassing to Paul Feig. A digital download code is pathetic and it's just a code, not another disc in thr collection. Don't throw the baby put with the bathwater. Or do so, of you want to, your choice (as long as you understand I was talking figuratively about the download code, not about actual babies and bathwater)
Buy the boxset. Take the little paper the code comes in, block the actual code, then throw it away. Take a picture of it in the trash, and tweet it to Feig. As long as you dont actually download the movie, the message is still sent.
Y'all are missing the best part of this. With the digital download codes, Sony will get an exact count of how many people who purchase the box set care enough about GB 2016 to download it. Hard numbers as to what % of GB fans have any interest in the 2016 film. While those numbers may never be released publicly, they will likely be used internally with any discussion of GB2016, Paul Feig, and perhaps reboots in general.
Yup, and in the very slim chance there *is* interest in it, can release the 'Super Ultimate Collection' that includes a physical copy and a place in the fancy case for it.
They include the TV cuts and edits as well as never before seen gb2 scenes. Ones that have absolutely never seen the light of day. Trust me. I have an 8ft tall painting of Vigo in my basement...
Dang...I was really hoping for that physical copy to be included so I could use it as a coaster for my tasty liquid beverages while I watch the great Ghostbusters trilogy.
Well that explains that. I will get the Big set. I have always loved Ghostbusters. It was one of the first movies I ever saw at my friends place for a sleepover back in the 80s. It will be great!
Thank you for this update. As you suggested, I did react with anger at how this was handled, Sony could've done a better job. Then again, Feig and others could've been adults, too.
There is also the possibility Fieg didn't know about the digital copy and Sony let him squirm knowing he'd lash out as a marketing ploy. You gotta say him making a fuss let far more people know there even was a box set coming out than would normally even care.
Well, Dan Ackroyd is also a producer and co-creator, so he has both a monetary _and_ an artistic stake in the Ghostbusters franchise. That's why he was able to say, "The director didn't shoot scenes we felt were needed", since he made that suggestion in his role as a producer rather than just an actor. I mean, I don't think actors have the right to go to the director and go, "Hey, maybe we need a scene to explain (x)?"
I'm gonna try and import this box set, if I can ; I live in the U.K, so it will be pretty expensive, but I think it's worth it. True fans can look past the digital copy (which feels like such a backhanded gesture from Sony) of Ghostbusters 2016 and just enjoy the rest of what's in the set.
It would cost me money to send it back to them. As someone else said in these comments... better off just taking a picture of the code sheet being burned (with the code crossed off in marker, so other people can't download it) and tweeting it to Feig.
I think it's considerate of Sony to include a download code for "Ghostbusters" 2016 in the Ultimate Collection. Now I can carry it around just in case I need emergency toilet paper.
I feel kinda bad for Feig because he seems like a friendly and chill guy in interviews and such. Don't sacrifice your own character for the sake of wokeness... oop, too late.
Considering the years he's spent attacking fans, and this bizarre self-hate misandry of him condemning all men in general, he does not seem friendly at all.

As far as I am concerned, what it appears is just a greedy company that chose to bend the knee for more bucks, not that they are actually intent on respecting what was created. Mark my words, once they get themselves out of that supposed contract for physical sales they would include it 100% on the spot because as far as they are concerned its an asset that can be sold, not that it doesn't fit with the franchise.

@@mallninja9805 welp feig will be oh so lucky to be hired by another studio for any major projects now after this. Me personally I may still buy it but I'll just throw the digital codes in the trash.
Here's a tip, if you want to make a good comedy find actors that are funny and not just pick actors and tell them to act funny. That's the main difference between the original ghost busters and this one. The original cast felt like normal funny people. While this trash cast felt like a bunch of boring people trying to act funny.
Really, if Feig had kept his mouth shut he could have spun this into a little moment of vindication by pointing out that it still counts enough for a freebie digital voucher. Now he comes off like a whining child, and Sony's definitely losing out on a (admittedly very small) amount of copies that they never had to lose in the first place.
The Ultimate Collection set will still sell. People who wants it will get it, regardless of the stupid code. I've already preordered it and can't wait to get it in a couple of weeks.
The irony is that when Ghostbusters 2016 came out every effort was made to distance itself from the original film as if this new film was to replace it. Well done Paul, you successfully distanced yourself from the main universe Ghostbusters franchise. It's what you wanted. We remember the promotional campaign at the time. You wanted rid of the fans of the original film and taunted and goaded them while promoting GB 2016. Your disrespect has resulted in your film being seen as a mere novelty extra which people can download as an option if they really feel the need to.
They wanted their own cool kids club with blackjack and hookers that would be way better than that other club full of evil ists and manbabies. And now the cards have burned and the hookers all have syphilis at the new club. @@MidnightsEdge So, I guess mail all the codes to Feig? I doubt anyone else would want it. Plus, a pile of unused digital copy codes in his mailbox might move him closer to probably thinking about reconsidering his position?
i think your right ,cause in order to meet the release date they had to of already had the sets boxed and ready to ship so they would.t go back an open them all up to slip in a digital code after wards
I fully believe it was always included especially if it's on the box art... I work for a company that deals in shipping and many years ago I got to do the install at one of my customers that printed box art for VHS and DVDs (yeah it was that long ago) and while we were waiting for the install to finish we were looking at some of their production run and say the case for Forrest Gump, we joked about liking Tom Hanks but this was going to be a failure as the description on the back was not something we wanted to see... this was about 4 months before the movie hit theaters... so plans for this ultimate collection were likely in process at least a year ago and the decisions were made then.
Eh, I'd say it is a win. What Sony did is the most back-handed 'caving-in' of recent memory. Anyone can read the writing on the wall and I appreciate that the fanfiction isn't embellished onto the valuables. It's like the same, if not worse than a participation ribbon. The person got something, but everyone knows, and most of the time, even the recipient knows it's a hollow show of acknowledgement.
@@GoodwillWright Good point. It's not a real inclusion, it's just a coupon and a code that will scarcely be used by anyone. I can see that the biggest embarrassment from this will be mainly felt by Feig himself.
If Sony planned all along to include ATC, even just digitally, that means they factored it into the pricing of the set as a whole. Therefore my preorder is staying cancelled. I'm not paying a single penny for ATC in any way.
This brings up something I have always wondered. If you got fired from a job, why would you ever sue to get it back, as some people do? Why would you want to be somewhere you know you're not wanted? Is Paul Feig a sociopath? Or just liberal?
I think he’s just a highly insecure man that can’t stand to think one of his movies (one he had to be studio-pressured into making, by the way) was terrible.
Twitter exists as a promotional platform, the fact they didn’t tell him about material someone in his position would normally promote means Dan was telling the truth.

One of the most interesting observations from all of this is that Tom Rothman is doing a good job at Sony. He's better known for his mistakes with choices regarding deadpool and other properties where he was clearly wrong (or associated with the retrospectively wrong choices) but he's apparently not a strikeout artist.
I'm thinking about getting this set, Ghostbusters holds a special place for me because it was one of the first classic movies my dad introduced to me, other than Star Wars of course. Also I'm burning that code (that'll definitely feel very satisfying to me).

And they now have a metric to show how many people bought the physical copy and didn’t waste their time downloading a free extra movie.
It's interesting to see Paul Feig demand a level of respect for his film which he denied the original.
If GB 2016 was a huge success does anybody seriously believe he'd be promoting the original film right now? He showed zero respect for the franchise but expects that he's owed respect in return.
20.000 gb fans just paid 399 usd for a proton pack replica from Hasbro. Yeah, it's significant.
Fans of 2016 won't buy the collection because the only movie they care about is a digital download, and fans of the original films that buy the collection won't use the download code. No matter what, Feig loses.
@@Ins0mnia365 But not a 2016 pack, a 1984/Afterlife version - significant fan base for sure but not the one some are trying to claim.

I just love how smug he is. I bet he was imaging the look on Feig's face after hearing him, especially after Feig ignored his and Ivan Rietman's advice making that bomb.
Dan Aykroyd: "You could halve the budget and still make a Ghostbusters film and still make money."
Paul Feig: "I like to see you try."
Dan Aykroyd: *Hands him a copy of GB:Afterlife* The problem you have Paul is - like your films - you have to make it all about you. (Insert clip of him talking about the clip of the reshoots required).
Aykroyd had to issue an apology later because his information was mainly wrong.
There’s a ton of extra content and versions that’s why it’s so expensive
the most damning thing about feig's unprofessionalism that you pointed out was the fact that he felt it was more important for him to troll the atc haters instead of actually thanking his "fans" for their support.
LOL, truth is Feig knows he doesn't have any fans.
So Paul is proud that his movie won an award that the CGI Alvin and the Chipmunks movies won? Also, there are no words to express how hilarious Paul's humiliation is. Sony losing money cause of this hack, Paul is screwed!

I thought the reason Bill, Dan and Ernie were in it was because Sony threatened them with legal action if they refused?
@Krut Hawort I think you're right about Ernie Hudson. He was in Dragonball: Evolution. After the GB reboot was announced but before he was involved, he posted on Facebook that he thought it was a "bad idea".
@Krut Hawort Ernie Hudson never turns down a chance to get paid. He auditioned to be the voice of Winston in The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, because the man has nothing going on.
I bet Ernie Hudson has more going on Than either of us do. Unless you include naming the ants in my cereal and regretting decisions past.
@@goth_ross Definitely; he's done way more stuff than just Ghostbusters. I think he just likes to work and isn't a snob that thinks he's "too good" for certain roles. I seriously doubt he had any idea what "Dragonball" was when he agreed to do that movie. (He's mentioned his kids hating the Commodore 64 Ghostbusters game, so they would have been adults by that point and not into Dragonball.)
I don't get why @FireRising86 thinks Hudson auditioning to reprise Winston in the cartoon is somehow bad or pathetic. Keanu Reaves, Alex Winter, and George Carlin reprised their roles in the Bill & Ted cartoon. (For the first season, anyway. For the second season, some idiot decided to replace them with the cast of the failed Bill & Ted live action TV series.)

I just think people should buy the box set and just toss out the code for Ghostbusters 2016. Not buying the box set is just a victory for Paul Feig
A digital download isn't a real copy so who cares if it's included. Don't those codes expire after a year or so LOL

@@thegamerdudeabides That's kinda my plan. I'm gonna flush it down the toilet though.

FIrst time seeing Dan's interview. Pretty unusual for an actor to speak so bluntly and honestly these days.
