I used blonde hair dye when dying the underneath of my hair like ages ago without using bleach and it turned out the same colour as yours has... :)

i tried ombre various times without using bleach, on my red hair, but it didnt touch it, ( i wasnt bothered about using bleach but i thought i would try without beforehand) i dont recommend trying to ombre without using bleach. I have since used bleech and it worked amazing, but im going to be doing it again shortly, to go even lighter!

ALSO i recomend using pure olive oil on the ends of your hair, to intensly moistureize it!

i have really black hair, and if i want to ombre my hair, do you thhink it will look nice, or do you think i should dye my hair dark brown and then ombre my hair? please please please reply :) x

i couldn't find the highlighting kit you used, but i bought revlon color silk hair dye in ultra light natural blonde. will that work? i'm scared to try it lol

Hey, sorry I'm commenting again but I wanted to ask if you dried your hair after you washed it and before applying the bleach a second time, or did you just leave it damp and apply the second bleach onto damp hair? xxx Ola

@Smithrebeccaable erm I was sooo afraid it would go horrid ... its a little bright methinks so I might make it ashier with some toner ... it took very quickly where it was already bleached ... i dont wanna ruin your hair or give you bad advice! i took the plunge but i say if you do decide to do it check the colour constantly! like every 5 min even less just keep looking ... tell me if you do decide to do it xxxx

what foundation were you wearing then?
My hair picks up colour really well. It's like a light ashy brown/dark blonde. I used to be a blonde when I was little so I can go lighter but not too lighter otherwise I need bleach which I am NOT going through again. I love Ombre but I'm already kinda sporting it naturally haha I love your hair :) xo

i JUST ombreyed my hair and i should have waited until i saw this lol it came out great though, i just put the bleach on for like half my hair, left it for 10 mins then washed it off and then put it back on the tips for like 12 mins! yeah my ends are dead dry, i've been using the tresemme shine oil spray on the ends! your natural curly hair is gorgeousss! xoxo :)

this was super helpful! i have a few questions though, i want to ombre my hair this week so i was wondering how necessary it is to use tinfoil..would the bleach just need to stay in longer if i don't use it? and when you washed out the bleach the first time, how dry was it when you put another layer of bleach on?(p.s. could you do a video when your hair is curly, i havent seen it in a while and think it will look awesome with your new hair dye)

Ive been wanting to do this for months,still trying to build up the 'guts' to do it,much like you I also have naturally dark,VERY curly hair so im afraid of damage to my ends,can i ask have you been using any deep conditioning treatments often to help with the after effects of bleach?

@nanolexi Why not try colour b4? Then you could dye it in reverse (dye the roots etc darker?).. I dunno, I obv have no idea what colour your hair is, but I used colour b4 and it took it quite a bit lighter (I dyed it red - which quickly turned to several shades of orangy/pink! It took all that out, and the darker brown that I was prior to the red... But I do feel it was a little damaging, unlike what they tell you! Everyone is different though).

i prefer this technique. it looks great. i had ombre hair but with pink tips. i have blonde hair naturally and i know it sounds quite drastic but it actually looked quite nice. to me at least. i got the inspiration from one of the new look (i believe it was new look) ads that you see in cosmo and glamour and stuff. i didnt bleach though, because i dont trust my hair to recover from the damage. :D its quite a diva and sooo sensitive. so i but on the color directly pretty much in the same manner.
I was going to do this today (I'm blonde) after researching online yesterday and probably will but I think I'll wait till after the bulk of exams are over and done with :) we'll see how it goes...ooo hopefully all nice and ombred for Summer! You look lovely xxx Ola

Looks fabulous :) I have curly hair that looks quite similar to yours when it was wet and ringlets at the bottom, same colour too! Personally I don't straighten my hair but I love this look and would love to see maybe just a clip or photo of your natural curly hair to see what it looks like with the ombre :)
as that's the response I always get when I ask 'shall I do this with my hair' - 'are you sure it'll work with curly hair?' sigh!

I tried without bleach and it didn't work at all! I have brown hair and tried making it honey in the bottom, didnt catch it at all!

if your hair is super damaged, use olive oil! it's a cheap alternative hair mask, i have thick black asian hair and i've bleached it to an almost platinum blonde (so like 5+ bleaching processes ugh horrible) and because i frequently did olive oil masks my hair stayed super soft!

Fab video Barbara, your hair looks beautiful. I think this will be so helpful for brunettes. Im a blonde and will probably always be blonde but if I was ever to be a brunette I would like my hair to look like this. Can I just ask (i know you probs get this all the time) but how did u get your hair so long? Like did u just not cut it for ages or?? xxx
I had my hair ombred, I am naturally light brown. The hairdresser put a dark chocolate through my roots (about a 1/3 of the length of my hair) then a dark blonde through the middle and ends of my hair. Then bleached the end 1/3 for the remaining time. This would work for lighter hair but it did take a long time. I had to go in a second time to get it re-bleached as it didn't go as light as i wanted an in total spent about 5 hours in the hairdressers. LOVE it though, thanks for the inspiration! x
