- Took about 2 hours and several million CR spent before I was able to take him down. Flat out got lucky that he didn't annihilate me after the energy drain lol.

Ah, I see. Even back in the days AC fans still struggled with the terminal sickness of "not know where the fuck the enemy is because they flew into my blind spot"
And it was even harder because you're fighting the camera just as much as you're fighting him. I've seen people do it with a narrow FCS but I just didn't have the patience lol.

@@monkeycake2612 it's so fucking insane to me how Nineball starts talking in your operator's voice in MoA once its revealed she never existed
not necessarily. he responds entirely to your range and position from him. if you kite him like this he keeps entering flight mode. another approach to take is to keep him close and stay low. that provokes him into using his sword beams. they're incredibly high damage (more than 3k dmg per hit), but very predictable. so with some practice you can float just out of harm's way and unload on him.

The Arenas were harder than Nineball Seraph IMO. I cheesed the guy with a tank leg ac wielding a bazooka and dual large missiles. I didnt even need to move around when I fought him.
If anyone is worthy of being the Malenia of AC then it would be Internecine Zinaida.

I've been playing through AC recently and had an easier time with the MoA version, I think he does way more damage but he's not so hard as long as you keep your distance so you can dodge most of his shots
AA Seraph doesn't shred you as fast but he's also way harder to keep track of so he kills you slower but more reliably
"Commencing Hostilities" still gives me chills til this day
"9" is just outright terrifying as a boss theme, Like I got into AC around age 18 and "9" replaced "Premonition" from Final Fantasy 8 as the most scariest boss music.
It's a blood pumping theme too.

@@IRUKANJII was like 12 when I got into AC, I just went with "Whatever looked cool" on my AC so OG Nineball and Seraph whooped my ass good, I didn't revisit MoA and Another Age until I was 22 and knew about the stats and whatnot so I could do better.
@@HarunaEventide yeah I was right around the same age when I started but they were my friend's games. I did a whole emulator kick back in the Aughts to play all the PS1 and the PS2 games through Nexus and it was such a blast.

@@andriharlin7407 Last Raven, overall, was the most difficult AC game. Final Pulverizer and Ultimate Zinaida never proved challenging to me though.
It would take me hours to beat Nine Ball Seraph. There's a reason he has a reputation as a post-game optional boss than the former two do as potential story-mode bosses. They aren't that bad.
@@THEGRUMPTRUCK Zinaida has very predictable movement and patterns and its not hard to keep up with her with the right build, it got to a point where i was killing her consistently while trying to S rank that mission lol

@@THEGRUMPTRUCKultimate zinadia was by far the hardest boss I had to face. Infinite energy, insane damage on her close range weapon, faster than my fastest build. I guess it just depends on the matchup, I insist on using quick builds with machine guns, and the nerf as of nexus did not help

The AC Is not as fast in 4 and the AI is busted borderline cheating

Yesn't. In terms of most iconic enemy, yes, all related to Hustler one/nine ball is.
But on actual difficulty for old gen, most of traumas are for Matthias on AC2 arena and Final Zinaida on LR. Also, try them without human+ :)

Zinaida is kind of overrated because players tend to get hurt before fighting her, heck you can easily win by using shade laser rifle

There was a counter for how many times you tried this mission. I had over 200 attempts, I've never beat nine ball, but I know I was always one moonblade swing away, or one kurasawa blast from victory. Never happened.
Relatable. Had to build the slowest, ugliest tank AC.
Back against the wall. Use wide FCS.
Let loose the Shoulder cannons (long-range) and machine guns (close-range).
Get lucky and out-damaged Nineball Seraph when it flies above.
I started playing this series at age 5... I'm not joking, I saw my dad playing Armored Core 3 and I have been playing these games ever since and only after buying Armored Core 1 on my PS3, I have only beaten 1,3,SL,and ACFF!
Nineball seraph is probably the hardest battle in AC series even including MoA
I'd personally say that Zinaida is much harder (can't use H+) whereas Seraph is more notorious. In terms of FromSoft's lineup I see it like comparing Malenia to Inner Father from Sekiro. Both fights are insane but Inner Father is the ultimate skill check overall.
@@FauxRegard For me personally zinaida is actually easier I can easily defeat her with just s shade laser rifle heck I even defeat her with just rockets once, but Nineball can easily shred you even if you just make a small mistake

i remember having a build with an MG, a radar (i usually don't use radar lol), a multi missile launcher w/ extension missiles, along with the decoy internal thing
i only really managed to beat him once but got damn i am not doing that again that shit's hard lmao

No lofty dialogue, no elaboration, just takes one look at you and thinks your life hasn't been hard enough.
I found out back in the day that if you fly back to the wall with your back against the wall. Wait, just wait for him to come to you. When he gets close enough, he'll start his close range attacks. And when he gets close enough, jump up & fly on his back. At this point, he'll will try to attack you with no success. Then blast him with your strongest weapons. I personally used the large double cannons on him. Easy day all day.

second tho this lvl of bs is the super pulverizer from the secret ending of LR, that thing is legit busted. and i fully believe they intended it to be some form of 9ball reflection, the pulverizers. with the addition of the energy shield gimmick and the absolute spam of weapons it has. and the perma flight

so AC2A is just an updated Master Of Arena? I'm trying to piece the story together and it seems the PS1 games are entirely retreaded by the PS2 games for storytelling or is this just a copy of 9ball Seraph, along with the "engaging hostilities" line?
because 2A takes place back on earth not exactly "updated" MoA just like the OG NB fight this is more of an easter egg as well

AC2 is a continuation of the overall world taking place on Mars and one of the characters is implied to be the main character of MoA and AC2:AA is more like a mission pack with not much of any story, and it has stinger, phantasma stinger, and nine ball seraph as super bosses you can fight after finishing the other 89-ish missions.
I was 12 when i beat this dude. Playing AC6 now, man this game is wayyyyy tougher than AC6 in every respect. AC6 still a good effing game though.

If you want to fight this version straight up, sure.
Or, you can cheese him by equipping two Large Rockets on your back, boost backwards at the start of the fight and start boost-hopping up and down against the wall while looking down. His AI will cause him to boost into the wall below you trying to get behind you. Just sink rockets into his head whenever he's below you.
Thank you so much, this is the only viable strategy! I was unable to beat him in any other way because he cheats and doesn't play fair. This method took only a few tries.
At first I thought it wasn't working, but my mistake was hovering too high against the wall and not hopping. Eventually he will be right under you, at which point you can land on his head much like with the previous enemy. Once you are on top of him, he will be semi-stuck in the wall for some time, pushing you around. He will wiggle free eventually, but not before you sink a bunch of rockets into him. Rinse and repeat.
Also, one time he clipped fully through and fell out of the playfield (sadly you get no win for that lol).

so, this is just my view as a fledgling raven that's... i'll mimic monster hunter terms here, 6th generation raven, so, from what i see, these bosses were considered hard because of their mobility and how slow the camera movement were in that time, right? not to mention the no ammo supply before boss, so, if people really want to make things harder, why don't they try to play armored core 6 with similar settings like these one? i've checked the settings in armored core 6, this camera speed actually feels like mouse sensitivity 0 in the input device settings system, so, you can recreate this feeling with that settings and not using supply cache before bosses, although this doesn't gave anything other than making things harder for the player itself, which is a different feeling from when it's the core settings like this game
It's really not possible to replicate this feeling in AC6 because the game was designed around having a flexible camera speed. With this game, not only was the camera speed locked, but so was the control scheme. And Nineball was designed specifically against that drawback which is why he moves like a meth addict.
His speed is nightmarish to deal with and there's no way to cheese through it, whereas in AC6 you have more than enough options to deal with high mobility enemies.

I never found it that hard? I would test AC designs against it and if I could win with more than 1/2 AP then I was happy that it would hold up to PVP.
I wouldn't compare Nineball to Malenia IMO.
The difference between the two is while Nineball (mainly speaking MoA Nineball Seraph) puts the absolute fear of god into you for how he can either do one of three things, play with you then kill you, demolish you in the first 5 seconds of him engaging you. Or the hard-fought victory of you won. He's hard as nails leaning into BS mainly due to how much AC pushed the PS1 in every aspect but he was actually, fair in his challenge, usually.
Malenia, is an unfair, unfun trainwreck of a boss that LITERALLY breaks several core mechanics you're taught about the game and how bosses work. Such as her ignoring stagger rules for spells/heavy attacks and such. ANIMATION CANCELLING out of blocking or attacks and so on and so forth, oh and having to parry her THREE TIMES to get the riposte. Not to mention her healing mechanics, insane damage output and an almost certain insta-kill with Waterfowl dance just turns a cool looking boss and concept in theory, into bullshit. Whereas Nineball is hard, sometime's seems BS but is more fair to the player on so many more levels.
I'd rather fight Nineball, Zinaida and the 1vs4 (5 if playing the hard mission) of ACFA's Occupation of Arteria Carpals Mission in the Old King ending route. Hell I'd rather fight hard mode white glint with their full revive. Than fight Malenia.
Quick Edit: This is coming from someone who's played Demon Souls OG, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne and Sekiro before Elden Ring and I tend to do all bosses on all my runs. So yeah no, I'd rather take Orphan of Kos or The Memory Owl Trial than fucking Malenia as a boss to compare to Nineball Seraph.
I just played Another Age and it's really just that. I defeated both Nineballs on my first try, but then I revisited them and they wrecked my ass.
@@metalgearexcelsus Eyup, P much how Nineball rolls but even if he wrecked your ass you still had a fairer, albeit tough fight (usually, sometimes he will just game end you in 5 seconds, less so on Another Age but still.)
Hard AC bosses are meant to be 'you've had most/all the game to prepare, now show your skills' conquerable challenge like Nineball/Nineball Seraph, Zinaida, hard mode White Glint, N-WGIX to a degree in ACVD ETC. are supposed to be a skill check of AC piloting and AC building. They all are. Why you can go 'fuck you' but still have fun or want to replay the games and fight them again. Because they test you in your capabilities of building your desired AC then test 'okay you built it, but can you drive this thing?'
Malenia, hell no. Test of patience and I may be a patient person but fuck that. When losing to a boss is not actively your fault most of the time? it's not hard and fair, it's unfair and unfun.
I agree, Malenia is one of the worst bosses in the series due to them just going "how do we make it harder but not more fun". Sekiro was peak for 1 one 1 humanoid bosses imo.
