I grew up in Austin racing 125's throughout central Tx. Great time to be 18 and racing. The final that year was at Waggaman ,La. I broke my leg on that track 4 weeks after the 125 National Finals , also had the 500 Nationals final as well there. I'm 65 now and your fine film just took me back to my world and my youth. It wasn't only about or all about $$ back then. K. Howerton (San Antonio) and S. Stackable (Austin) were our top local hero's. Thanks much for the post.
Yeah, films can do that. I was a big fan of Howerton and Stackable too. I live in Wichita, KS and made the treks to see those races. Glad you liked it.
Wow! This is an important 3 minutes of video in the historical archive of the sport! The 1976 National 125 championship is an epic story and very little video seems to exist preserving it for us. The battle between Smith and a Hannah, the claim rule endangering works bikes, the amazing level and speed of engineering advancements in the sport....it is all embodied in that ‘76 season! Your film with its Fantastic quality and excellent production is some of the best footage I have ever seen from that year; thanks so much for sharing!
1 Smith, 39 Hannah, 16 Kessler, 20 Reid, 255 Kudalski, 17 Mcdougal, 14 Wise, 352 LaPorte, 848(?) Glover, 75 Englund. I was there, it was hot and humid!
The sound of real dirt bikes, smell of Klotz synthetic, vibatrating handlebars, and missing a shift.. Somehow "wing dingy ding ding" sounds so much better than "blat...blat..blat...blat" like sheep with heartburn. Yeech!
Today's four strokes sound like blubbering fartmobiles compared to the awesome sounding two strokes, especially when they were jetted perfectly. I still remember how crisp O'Mara's CR250 sounded at Unadilla back in 86. I was there, and that bike looked so fast that I wouldn't have been surprised if it was a 275cc bike. 🤣
Shell M is a clear vegetable cooking oil mixed with super petrol becomes racing fuel and i have even used peanut cooking oil for racing it is clear and clean fuel for race smelling enthusiasts and the oil we use these days is very toxic smelling it is a killer when breathed in it is not enviromentally friendly like our vegetable and cooking oils we used for racing was far more cleaner than todays toxicity of chemicals are filthy killers
The "Golden Age" of American motocross! Thanks for sharing.

Don't forget Steve Wise from McAllen! Cycle-rama and Sayers MX were my home tracks here in San Antonio. I had a '78 Yz 125 E.
@@pfdrtom .....and a little later Danny Storbeck.

Thanks Robert!
Perhaps I'm being nostalgic, but I liked MX a whole lot more when it was down-to-earth, literally and figuratively.

Thank you!
Was the water truck broke down? Lol
I was there! Danny LaPorte, Marty Smith, Bob Hannah (before he became Hurricane Hannah). Thaks for sharing!
That was well done- rare to see decent camera work back in the day.
Incredible. Thanks for posting.
Motorcycles were quieter back then.
Evidently😂
352 Danny LaPorte. 255 Don Kudalski. 16 Mickey Kessler. 17 Bruce McDougle. # 20 I think is Steve Wise.
Marty Smith looks fast, and Bob Hannah looks really fast.
Just imagine IF they had been on the current equipment? Good gawd⚡️and they would not be whining either! Truly they were really really fast!
Imagine Marty Smith (young & fit) on a currrent KTM 150🔥holy shit the lap times!

Totally agree!

Ah yes, back in the days when jumping your dirt bike was like jumping off your roof onto the sidewalk!
LOL! I know...
39 Hanna, 1 Marty Smith
Thanks for sharing!
Killer footage.
No holeshot device's . Nice to See
Awesome!
If that was at Good times mx track. Sadly its now overgrown with weeds
What's up with Kessler's Honda? Looks like that RC broke down in each moto? Smith looking burnt out from runnin' ragged in Europe.
Good stuff
Awesome... 8mm
What no sound ?
Not in those days. Shot with my dad's handheld Super 8 camera.
