It's a big block 390 with 325 HP and 430 ft lbs of torque 10.5 to 1 compression.
It moves the 4800 lbs car pretty well!

Looks and sounds good Allen. I like these body styles. Especially the two doors. Does the trans always leak from non use over the winter time? Does it leak less over the Summer when yiu drive it? At least you have your car at home. I need to drive for an hour before I can start and drive my Catalina. Space for me is always at a premium. I keep my dads 2000 Malibu in my garage. He left it to me after he passed. Wife takes the other half. Enjoy your Sunday.

This is my favorite year for Cadillac.
No it just always leaks, it's a slow transmission fluid change! Haha
I just top it off once or twice a year.
I hope your Cadillac is inside somewhere, and don't tell my wife that she can park in the garage instead of my Cadillac! Haha
Time to trade parking spots with the Malibu and the Catalina!

That's one beautiful Cadillac, it sounds good too! I love those '61s, what a clean design! It does sound like a racecar with that missing muffler haha! Did you ever figure out what caused the backfire?

Thanks Dylan! It does sound good, but it's supposed to be quieter! Haha
I talked to a guy at a car show, he said my distributor shaft could be collecting varnish and becoming sticky, throwing off the timing occasionally and the advance springs are too strong from the factory and should be changed to lighter ones.
Do you think it's safe to drive with a muffler on one side and straight pipe on the other?

    • @ds440RB
      @ds440RB 2 дні тому +1

@allenscarsandstuff You're welcome Allen! Those are interesting ideas, I guess the shaft could collect some varnish if it sat for a long time, have you checked if it has too much play? Usually they end up with too much play side to side, but I had a distributor shaft one time that had too much play up and down and the misfire would only show up at certain times. I've never had springs that were too strong from the factory, I've only put stronger ones in before, but anything is possible, what is your timing set at? I would still say somehow raw fuel is getting into the exhaust to cause the muffler to explode, but these are all good things to check. At least GM distributors are the best to work with! I probably wouldn't want to drive it with less back pressure with the missing muffler, it might not accelerate quite as well either, but I did do that with a Chevy I had one time just to get it home and it didn't wreck anything, but it's not great for the engine.

It does sit a month or four!
I haven't checked it since I put the pertronix ignition on it, actually I probably didn't check it then either.
I will check that before I pull it out.
Maybe the springs are too strong for the pertronix system.
Last time I set the timing was many years ago, I don't remember what I set it for, but I have an original service manual, so I probably set it to factory specs. I think 5 degrees advanced?
Funny thing is after the muffler blew out it ran great the rest of the way home (about 2 miles)
I thought it could have been a clogged exhaust because of that, even though it was mostly new ( some new pipes and mufflers, but the old resonators)
Also that side has an extreme exhaust leak between the head and manifold.
At some point I will need to drive about 6 or 8 miles to the exhaust shop, once I get it straightened out.

@allenscarsandstuff Okay, I wouldn't think it sitting that long would cause any issues like that, but you never know. I don't have any experience with Pertronix, just regular points and electronic ignition, so maybe you're right about the springs being to strong for that. 5 degrees sounds about right for that engine, that would definitely be good to check. I would definitely fix the exhaust manifold leak when you can, that can cause some issues, but that's not easy getting those bolts out of there and you have to be careful not to crack the head. I would just try to drive it slowly when you take it there, they'll definitely hear you coming haha!
