Did you get a Samsung M8? What has been your relationship to it? I ended up keeping it because the size and image detail have made media viewing really enjoyable, even if the more intense gamer in me kind of wishes I got something else.

Which cable did you use to directly plug in from your monitor to your MacBook Pro for it to be in clamshell mode?
How the gaming ? Does it look good ?
is the hdmi port works as an arc input for Sonos beam?
I'm subbing every reviewer that actually reviewed this honestly. Man, so many people skimmed over key sticking points that make this promising monitor an issue for serious buyers.
The review I was actually looking for besides the others that only read it’s specs. Thank you Joshua!
I snatched one so quick during prime day after a disappointing return with the m7 model. I spent $580 with all fees and taxes and after 2 weeks I'm so satisfied like I would still be happy if I payed full price. I use this monitor for mostly gaming and and media streaming and I can tell you it's so worth it. Only downside is that it won't support 120 fps with my series x but I'm not really the competitive first person shooter type of player but 4k HDR at 60 fps is just beautiful when it comes to play amazing story games like far cry or cyberpunk. The 4ms is also very good! Had a smal cheapl 24' monitor and was thinking about getting a New TV and Monitor but when I saw this it was a automatic grab. If yall are thinking about it just go for it
can I ask you why returned the m7 and in what exactly this is better, looks like specs are almost the same and price is double. Thanks
@@GianniTamai first the design of the m7 looks like a normal TV. Meanwhile the m8 is wayyyyy more sleek and looks like a a apple studio but without the big chin at the bottom. You can also height adjust and tilt the m8 but you can only height adjust the m7 and not tilt it... the thing that sold me is the brightness difference... the m7 is really dark and it will be hard to see things. When you play games or watch movies especially if you have a heavy light reflection... and one more thing the m7 is 8 bit while the m8 is 10 bit. That means the m8 has 1 billion colors and the m7 only has 17 millions and trust me it's a huge difference...
@@GianniTamai also if you're a gamer the m8 has 4ms response time which is way better for console gaming and even pc. I believe the m7 has an 8ms response time
@@JR-ng6wt thanks
What baffles me is the single hdmi.
Do you think freesync absence is noticeable?
It’s a pity as cheap monitors have it.
@@GianniTamai yeah the single hdmi does kinda suck but the monitor is worth it since it has built in software as a normal snart TV wirh a browser and all these smart features like Alexa and stuff. I have a smart room myself so being able to have a monitor that's smart was a big upgrade. And I only really use my Xbox series x and a separate laptop so I really don't need another hdmi port for a pc. And best part is that you won't need to plug in a roku like you would with another monior.. everything you can do on a normal TV like Bluetooth and stuff you can do on here
Really enjoyed this review - I just snagged one on Prime Day for 25% off, for sub $600 (CDN) that’s a great deal IMO!
I bought one of these because I needed to replace my old 27" iMac (already got an M1 MacBook Air) so I basically needed a good screen, but I wanted something that also looked good on the desk. I am happy with the panel quality and very happy with how it looks, I definitely like it better that the old 2013 iMac, the stand that is height adjustable is something nice. I thought of Apple's Studio Display as the first option, but the price is imho absolutely unjustified for a non pro video/photo editor. However... I am not happy with the connectivity of the M8 at all, it is NOT a USB C capable monitor, you can not (at least I could not do it) connect the Macbook via USB C because it forces to use the airplay screen mirroring which is awful because of the lag. It needs to use HDMI and it does NOT use HDMI but mini HDMI... the camera... it does not communicate well through the USB C cable (I've tried Thunderbolt 4 cable) on the back of the monitor. I had to take out the camera connector and connect it to the Macbook using a USB C cable (as if it was a third party camera) and that way it works well. So, it's not as plug&Play as you would think by most reviews on UA-cam. However, it is a nice monitor, nice image quality, and aside connectivity with Mac, is good. I think the value for money is OK, a Studio Display would have been a seamless experience with just one cable, but imo that doesn't justify almost $1000 more, not even with the 5k resolution. Now, if you red this and notice I am doing something wrong regards the connectivity issues I mentioned, please let me know!
I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro. I am not considering if the USB-C port can take a HUB that has both HDMI and usb-C as I work with both Macbook and Windows computers. BTW. the seamless one cable solution works perfectly with the Windows PC.
this was a great review. I like how you considered the different types of users and how they would use and react to the monitor.
thanks for the honest review. I’ve been looking into this monitor for the past week and at this point, I think I just have to test one out. I work in tech and game so I want something that has useful features for me and looks nice.
my pc is hooked with an external bose speaker so if i buy this monitor the output would be from the bose speaker right since its connected to my pc
You should look into an HMDI switch so that you can swap between HDMI devices with a single connection to the monitor!
Yes, that’s always an option. Just pointing out how limited it can be at base level
Use a cable switcher for the hdmi. It makes everything much simpler
Use a cable switcher
what's a cable switcher?
i hope they release a black version of this. i commented on a samsung account on tiktok and they said that they might... or maybe they were just teasing me lol
As an impatient human being I was gonna get the M7 coz I can't wait till this is available in S.A.. but your review was really insightful and I'll definitely consider waiting for it.
It’s here now! Got mine yesterday
@@vickiloader2524 wait which province are you in and also which branch( Druban slow AF to get things so I’ll definitely have to purchase from where you got it from)

Hi Joshua, I heard the sound isn't good in this M8 monitor, wondering if it is possible to add sound bar?
Props to that awesome Persona 5 desktop wallpaper
i have not come across anyone comenting on how browsing with a mouse on the M8...please touch on this, cheers!
Complexity yet simple
excellent review thank you so much
0:14 im exactly like that, currently I have a Yoga AIO 7 which is good, but my dream setup is to have an x1 fold 16, with an eGPU in the White Razer Core X and a Samsung M8 monitor, that way my laptop saves a bunch of space for a 16", but when im at home and plug it into the eGPU, I get more power than my current yoga AIO 7, and can do much more, and instead of having a laptop and a PC, and have to deal with (im sorry but) terrible onedrive syncing, I'd have just one PC
I'm planning to get this monitor, but Im not able to find a closer look of how MacOs look in it =(
I have 2 questions...1. Can that be configured into a Cable TV box? 2. Is there a bluetooth for laptops??
Thanks for the review. I don't care about the height adjustment. My desk is adjustable. The not being able to have an audio input is just dumb. I don't need to view from the side. Who views from the side, lol, it's technically a monitor, buy a smart tv you wanna watch tv on the side. I've been waiting for them to do a monitor/tv that's not bulky. I wish Apple display wasn't so pricey but it is Apple...
thx for mentioning too high min brightness as this is something i had in the past problem with in another cheap samsung 4k monitor
Can it connect to wireless mouse or keyboard?
Great video, thanks, helped me make the decision to purchase the M8. Also, love your desktop wallpaper, any chance you can link?
Your review is excellent. I am very interested in ordering this M8. The current price of the older M7 is now under 300.00. I found this on Amazon in blue for about a 100.00 more. Do you think it is worth the cost? My other question can I use my Bose computer speaking with this M8. Let me know thanks again.
where do u connect the external keyboard while your laptops are connected? my keyboard won’t type.
In the USB C port. You can use a hub.
I like having that balance of minimalism with great specs.
Hi Joshua, may I ask what game were you playing? Great quality content by the way 😊
How did you connect your macbook pro into the monitor witjout using the airplay mirroring? Its so laggy for me when i use airplay. Which cable did you use to connect to your MBP
I use the one that came with the monitor. Thunderbolt!
Are the text blurry? Cause I have a macbook and I once tried a 27in monitor and the text are blurry. Any advice?
This review is great, thanks! Question-is there *any* latency from your MacBook with the webcam? I have a Mac and have tried various webcams but there is enough delay that it drives me nuts since I work entirely virtually.
1:09 week detector activated!!! :DD
I'm having an issue with my M80C: my external speakers (connected via USB) work fine in gaming and media modes but just can't figure out why they won't work in workspace (have a Mac mini connected via HDMI. The external speakers show up in settings and when the settings menu is open the sound is played through the external speakers but once I close the menu, it goes back to the internal monitor speakers. very confusing...
For not being a 120Hz is a big bummer for me cuz of my Xbox Series X, if it had that it would have been the best option for me
🤦♂️
Hi, thank you for the review. I just want to ask on the purpose of the other USB C port? Can I as well use is for video?
Thanks so much for this excellent review. I have a question: if I use the smart apps (e.g. Apple TV+) can I use the USB port for audio? (I have a USB to SPDIF converter that plugs into a DAC and stereo amplifier)
Yes you can, I have a set of Yamaha speakers connected via USB and they work perfectly
@@AnthonyGebbie Hi there, could you or anyone else please help me with which cable you successfully connected external boxes through USB-C port (using Audio Jack 3.5 mm) Thanks!
@@bottecla my speakers are using a USB-C (mac) to USB-B (Yamaha speakers) cable... not 3.5mm audio. Sorry
I'll wait until the day Samsung will bring OLED/Mini LED to their smart monitor lineup with VESA adapter
Hey Joshua, any ideas how to connect 2 M8 monitors to MacBook Air? And do i need to use the Plugable Docking Station?
How on earth are you keeping your Ember mug clean without losing the ceramic coating inside? Mine is very stained as any significant cleaning takes the coating off!
Did you connect the keyboard and mouse directly to the screen instead of using a docking station?
I have just bought one of these. Can you please help me. How did you get the camera to work in windows? Windows can’t access the monitor’s camera?
Hello, please could you share the dimensions of ac power adapter?I need to insert on my kitchen wall, thanks.
Would like to know what monitor you end up with
did you used laptop to connect it to the monitor or a mac mini/other cpu brand?
Hi Joshua, between M8 and M7 which one would you advise me to buy? The M8 has less connectivity while the M7 cannot be adjusted. I am stock with choosing one. I am a programmer. Thank you in advance.
@JohnPaul Adimonyemma could you suggest a good laptop or computer to use with this monitor please? Rushed to get the monitor but need a computer for max utilization
A pro version of this would be 🔥.
You didn't seem to review the PC end of this monitor...like 4k screen etc
i loved it when i had it but i couldnt split screen as if im using 2 monitors, that wouldve been awesome.
I think the software that have that function is only in the ultrawide Samsung monitors.
Can you share your wallpaper?
The lack of headphone jack blows my mind
Why
@@chris19bozworth11 because youre limited to connecting to a bluetooth speaker, which ive experienced so much audio delay when paired with this monitor
@@ApoMelon do you not have the monitor connected to a computer?
@@chris19bozworth11 i do. but i bought this monitor to also use it as a smart TV that is independent of a computer
Why not just use usbc to aux
Thanks! I was looking for some info regarding the audio. Have you tried connecting it with a USB C to an RCA cable? I was wondering if that would work since I have a set of monitor speakers, and it would be a shame not to use them
Did you tried to connect usb-c to an RCA cable or usb-c to audio jack 3.5 mm?
@@raulcv i connected an usb c hub with 3.5 audio jack. sadly it didn’t work
@@facudom I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you for your reply. If I found some option I'll make it know.
I really wanted to purchase this monitor......but it is not 120mhz and does not have a 2.1 HDMI port
I'm still satisfied and it works great with my series x. I'd go for it
@J R I have a PS5 and want the full 120mhz experience...... since I had to wait so long to find a PS5
@@Cold1906Ice May I ask what monitor did you ended up purchasing for PS5?
Can you connect usb speakers to it 🤔? I have some old bose usb speakers
how did you connect nintendo switch to m8? I'm struggling to connect them
Is there a way to output to another monitor .?
Opps Samsung engineers just forgot to add an headphone jack. Sorry Samsung it's a deal breaker. If i connect it with multiple source then with a 3.5 mm jack in the monitor i can use only one audio system for all.
Difference between m7 and m8 ?
Nice video!
Anyone knows where I can get that sick wall ?
I couldn’t connect to lan cable
The HDMI output is maxed at 30Hz Refresh rate only where as on USC-C it support 60 HZ. Is it happening for you too?
Will this work well with a surface pro x?
Yes!
I have some issues with this monitor using Mac mini and windows laptop. When I move my windows it leaves behind shadows. Anyone knows how to fix them?
Which Pc speaker brand are you using joshua?
I purchased this monitor a few months back so that I could connect my laptop while working from home. It's a great monitor but I can't for the life of me get the webcam to work with Microsoft Teams or on my laptop at all (I've tried connecting using USB C & HDMI cables). I also can't get a wireless keyboard & mouse to work unless the usb dongle is connected to my laptop. Does it have to be a bluetooth keyboard?
I think the keyboard and mouse must be using a usb c hub to the other usb c port.
Is it good for photo/video editing ?
Good enough, but not ideal.
With super accelerated computers, stacked transistors, mega storage , AI, this set will be defunct within 4 years. And 60 HZ after all the the bangs and whistles, who designs that ?
Can this be used as a secondary monitor??
Yes!
I just received this monitor. I’ve attached my new Mac Mini to it via HDMI. But I can’t seem to access the webcam either with the Mac or just the monitor. Any suggestions? Is connecting the Mac via USB-C a better option than HDMI? Thank you for the review!!’
The webcam only works connecting the laptop via USB C because it works as a hub.
can you run clamshell mode when connected with airplay?
I want one for my Schooling, is it good to have one for that?
can you connect 2 M8 monitors with each other?
How can I use the camera for my PC Windows 10? It says no camera found...
Connect your PC via USB C. The camera won't work via HDMI.
I just bought mine for $371 on Amazon (including taxes).
Wouldn't be a OLED TV a better option?
I am having issues with it not being “snappy” there is a lag when i airplay my macbook & its super inconvenient. Any suggestions?
Honestly, it's not great of a display
What watch are you using right now?
Anybody know where I can get similar stand like that Samsung monitor?
HI
Can I cast from mobile
Thanks
What about sharpness text in Macs ?
can i download the downloader app ?
I bought it I'll try it by myself first then I'll judge it
What about Christmas desk with xbox and nintendo and a tree and light
Hmm, I’m actually looking at M8 right now since I only have enough space for 1 screen in my room and I want it to be tv cum monitor bec.
1. I’ll be connecting it to my office laptop which would have certain restrictions on what I could watch.
2. My laptop screen is also quite small (13” macbook air), hence the need for a bigger monitor.
The M8 seems to fit the bill for most of the things I need since it already has a webcam but I’ve been hearing not so great reviews about it too.
What would be a great alternative? If I buy a decent monitor instead, won’t I need to buy chromecast + webcam + speakers for what I need? Then it’ll all add up to the same amount?
What gaming controller can I use on the M8 to play the apps?
In my case, the Xbox controller.
Is it an IPS panel or VA panel? I currently have the new Alienware QD-OLED display and while it is stunning for games and watching HDR content, it’s horrible for productivity and it lags hard when waking from sleep so I’m selling it and debating to get this monitor BUT the lack of vesa mount, black color option and the fact that it’s a VA panel are really pushing me toward another brand. The selling point for this really is the design.
its a VA
2 monitors we arrange some how now if you don't give discount we will arrange third party monitors
My M8 micro hdmi port don’t work i buy another cable to check if the problem was the cable and still don’t work. Samsung customer service is the worst they never understand. i may end returning the monitor.
I loved the video but why are you using an Xbox Series S if you already have a gaming laptop/computer? Xbox Game Pass for PC has most if not all the same titles as the Xbox. It just feels redundant you know?
Some of my friends only have Xbox live
@@localblackman427 Windows 10/11 have built in Xbox Live. Just hit Windows Key + G and you'll see your friends and can create parties with them.
Bruh, clean up your desktop. MacOS helps with this by providing you with the Stacks feature (not trying to be condescending, but I do recall you being a MacOS noob).
Can I cast Disney hotstar, prime video from my android phone to this monitor?
I’ll correct you, it’s VA, not IPS panel, it’s compromise between IPS and LED technology. Better black then IPS, but worse viewing angles.
The tv part of this sucks hard, given the fact it doesnt include an audio jack and one is forced to connect speakers via Bluetooth
Can we use the camera for online video call? how?
How many Hz does this monitor have?
60hz
I want to buy this used one from Amazon for $475 to upgrade from my Samsung m7 mainly to get the game hub , cable management , camera, brighter display , and iot.. but at the same time I don't because the m7 has more ports , better speakers and mines is on a vesa mount .

What is vesa mount ??
@@superpets3438 it's the metal arm that monitors are mounted on that you see on desk setups that lets you move the monitor in different directions . But there's a 3rd party mount for the m8 now .
@@kdubspencer3390Thank you. I see direct wall mount for M8 in spec. Is that a fixed wall mount like TV unit?
