But, but Miles: What happened to beans???? They count for protein and starches! Put chilibeans on your sweet potatoes and add the broccoli and you will be stuffed. I am not a McDougaller but even he is happy with beans! I am not low fat at all but for many, many people it is very hard to control calorie intake from oils & nuts together with starches. It tastes too good! For those it is easier to categorically say no to any oil in the first place and to limit „overt“ fats (hate that expression...) from avocado and nuts & nut butters. Tough, joyless in my opinion but it is a measure that works formant people.
@@georgieroberts8697 To my best knowledge beans have a rather „low“ net (!) carb content but have tons of fibre (carbs!) and that is what you want and need on a high carb diet. And you need that (plus enough starch & a bit more solid protein) to fill you up. Calories from fruits do not satiate (long) enough, same goes for a lot of veggies. If I eat fruit only I get hungry in a second. If I add oats to breakfast it is a lot better. And if if I add nuts, seeds and soy yogurt too = fat & protein it is the best of course in my opinion. But people on weight loss want to save those (satiating) calories, others do not have to or should do it in my opinion. Being on weight loss on a high carb diet works best for many people avoiding oil and limit or avoid additional fats. If they do 50% starchy veggies (including beans if you want them) and 50% non-starchy veggies & fruit is a valid way to go for them. Moderation leaves too much room for interpretation for many during that period. It is not the way I would ever do that but I try to be fair to the concept.
I think some high carbers consider them not high carb, because they have a little more protein than other starchy foods. I think McDougall put a limit on beans (no more than a cup a day) but I don't know if he does anymore. I eat a low-moderate carb diet and don't keep up with his stuff. His diet really messed me up.

I had to switch to a diet like this because of heart disease. It takes a few weeks to adjust, but your taste buds eventually change. Try your challenge for a month! ;-)
This is sooo true. I was seeing a vegan based health clinic that focused on high carb here in Los Angeles and they kept telling me keep eating more carbs, you'll be satisfied just eat more carbs and it didn't work. What I missed more than fat though, was protein. For someone who CANNOT digest almost all beans (for some people, even after YEARS this just doesn't change, regardless of preparation, enzyme supplements, etc.) it's a real struggle eating plant based.
Honestly, spaghetti with tomato sauce is sth I fear every time I go to a non-vegan restaurant. A lot of the time, it is the only plant-based option and I just cannot even think about it XD I ALWAYS have to switch it up with some extras (avocado, nooch, tofu, tvp) as otherwise I just feel hungry 30s after finishing the plate :D No surprise you needed to eat so much! Also, pasta-romaine boats: what a bomb concept!
Pasta, even whole grain pasta is not „complex“ (fibre rich) enough as a carb and too easy to digest to keep me full for long. I love pasta but need a lot of veggies with them. I usually order extra veggies with them to enrich the plate.
During quarantine I’ve been working on my weight (I’ve lost 50 pounds since late February). I’ve done this by eating more plant based. But healthy sources of protein and fat have been the true key in my success. They’re what turn off the continual feeling of hungry. If I feel hungry in the afternoon, I’ll grab some cashews and a piece of fruit and I’m good until my evening meal. I like salads, but they’re really only filling with fat and protein on them. Thank you for doing this challenge Miles just to show how unappealing and unsustainable it is.
I have been a starch solution girl forever… But you have helped me understand the importance of putting good fat in my body and I feel so much better. The bread in this video and your words about the Large breadstick I am cracking up. This video was entertaining but also taught how incorporating good fats into our food and bodies is important! Love you Miles!
Miles. I love you for this video. Carbs are life (from time to time and in moderation) but my gosh, this was just so much fun XD I really appreciate your sacrifice (it must have been wonderful and horrible at the same time) you've made for us! . Sending you all the love! Have a fantastic week ahead . P.S. I wa literally dying from laughter for the whole video. The best end of the week I could imagine :D
High carb Hannah has a very good carb cheese sauce on her website, you should make it and try it! She uses it for her potatoes. It’s potatoes and cooked veggies blended with nutritional yeast and stuff.
the one thing worth noting is there are two ways of determining what is the best option for weight controll. 1) what do you find the most filling per calorie. 2) what is more likely to turn into body fat and slightly slow down metabolism. this is why if you have extreme calorie controll(like a bodybuilder) you will lose more body fat eating a 500 calorie deficit with a diet with a lot of white bagels than a diet with a lot of apples, beets or almonds. but if you are an average individual who does not contain extrodinary willpower over resisting hunger and you eat a 500 calorie deficit with the apple, beet and almond rich diet vs eating maintaince calories on a white bagel rich, you will lose more fat on the fruit, beet&almond rich diet. why is this? because calories are the most important factor, buut fructose and dietary fat are more likely to turn into body fat than refined starch. this is because every day you gain and lose fat and its the net sum that determines whether you gain or lose body fat overall. this is why bodybuilders tend to limit dietary fat and fructose while eating a lot of grain, while weight loss programs for obese people favor fruits, beets&almonds.
I love this video! I did WFPBNO for 2 years around 2015-2017 and the best damn thing I ever did was quit that and start eating a balanced vegan diet with fake meats, fake cheese, extra virgin olive oil, and basically whatever I want. It’s so freeing to live without stupid food rules. People claim you can cook with water or veggie stock but it’s a shit way to cook and tastes like shit. You need the oils to get your food crispy and yummm 😝
I 100% understand why you've got bored. Plain carbs are just nit a thing :D Fats are the most important part of each and every meal for me! Miles, thank you so much for finally telling the world the truth. FATS ARE LIFE.

Okay. You need me for this challenge. I could whip up a plethora of Carb intensive dishes to satisfy your vernacular, trust. You know where you went wrong? That baguette was begging to be slathered in an entire head of Roasted Garlic, yes.
What a great laugh near the end. I figured for sure you would break down. I'm guessing you dove head first into the peanut butter jar once the challenge was over!
Wow...This really comes down to taste, cause if I were made to choose I'd definitely go like "GIMME ALL THE CARBS!!!" On a side note, here's a curious linguistics fact about figs: the italian word for fig is "fico" which in colloquial language also means "cool". In some dialects, the word "fig" is feminine "fica". In slang, the feminine word designates the vagina or a hot woman.
If you're going to do high carb you pretty much have to incorporate legumes. Even just a serving with each meal really increases satiety, protein and micronutrients
Eating my Chinese glass noodles while watching this. RECOMMEND RECOMMEND RECOMMEND. Some are made of sweet potatoe starch and some from mung bean starch. DELICIOUS DELICIOUS DELICIOUS

Ok I'm gonna be honest I never really bought it when you said 'Carbs NEVER fill me up'. I just thought surely at some point, like he must be exaggerating... I need to apologise!! :D I absolutely believe you now :D
You are correct that you need some fat to help with absorption of some vitamins, but the studies show that you don't need that much. Many whole plant foods are naturally around 10% fat. People on a "fat free" diet are typically getting 10-15% of their calories from fat. A little goes a long way (9 cal/gram rather than 4). Beans definitely help with the satiety.
What do you recommend for those who experience migraine on a vegan diet? Is high carb still the way to go, or should you include more fats and proteins?
Would have been more satiated if added beans and lentils. No plant based doctor is saying don't eat whole food low fat protein sources for satiation and nutrition
I eat moderately low fat, higher protein and higher carb vegan because of a surgery I had that made digesting fat harder on my body (I had my galbladder and bile ducts removed cuz of a tumor) but I don't AVOID ALL fat and will add a little tahini or something here and there to make things more enjoyable. I think balance is always key...people who are like NO FAT for no reason? I don't get.
I know where you're coming from but for some people it's necessary to do the starch solution like me as I can't lose weight and obviously you don't have that problem so I eat a lot of sauce, hot sauce, it's easy for me as Mexican 😊🤤
I can eat low fat but no fat at all is miserable tbh. Even the doctors say you can have 1/2 an avocado. And about the potato sauce you’re so right. Needs a good glug of oil to feel like a creamy sauce
you can lose weight with a balanced diet. just be aware of you are burning more calories than you are eating/drinking. just switching to drinking water and eating regularly is going to cut a lot of people calories to something more sustainable.
Anyone can lose weight on anything, and eat that way for around three years. The question is whether she felt full and satisfied and as though she'd be comfortable eating that way for the rest of her life. If it works, she'll be able to keep going - but usually, if it doesn't, after around the third year the cracks start appearing.
You are so right you need a little fat to absorb some nutrients. I eat a low fat diet but not a no fat diet. I eat limited nuts and avocado and the odd dollop of nut butter and put tahini in my humous I just don’t put in the olive oil. I once did a no fat diet and all I dreamt about was fat. My skin and hair suffered as a result.
Did you season any of it? I don't cook with fat. I put nutritional yeast in some stuff. So good! I cut up potatoes and steam them. When they are done, I put salt, pepper, garlic powder, and maybe rosemary or thyme in it. Sometimes I put nutritional yeast. I just eat sweet potatoes as is. Omg, so good. You just have to know how to season stuff. Now salad is another story. I need fat with that. Lol.
Could you please make a full video about the idea that carbs can't be stored as fat (I think they call it "de novo lipogenesis") and why do you think they promote that idea even though (you think) it is not true? thank you :)
I follow a HCLF vegan diet as it has enabled my body to heal multiple autoimmune issues, previous to this I was vegan but ate high quantities of fats and protein. I am not by any means saying fats and proteins are the devil, but please take into consideration how taxing they can be on the body. Only until I reduced the amounts to very low levels my body began to show signs of healing and rebuilding. Everyone does as they please, if one way of eating works for them then great. I just don't think it is fair to shun a specific way of eating just because it doesn't please you.

I liked the pink hoodie on the thumbnail🌸🌈😊
What do you think about Plantiful Kiki? She lost 70 pounds eating HCLF but with some fats here and there.
you can lose weight with a balanced diet. just be aware of you are burning more calories than you are eating/drinking. just switching to drinking water and eating regularly is going to cut a lot of people calories to something more sustainable.
Anyone can lose weight on anything, and eat that way for around three years. The question is whether she felt full and satisfied and as though she'd be comfortable eating that way for the rest of her life. If it works, she'll be able to keep going - but usually, if it doesn't, after around the third year the cracks start appearing.
Actually got triggered when you didn't remove the lemon seeds from the tomato sauce
SAME that really had me like 😨😨
You are so right you need a little fat to absorb some nutrients. I eat a low fat diet but not a no fat diet. I eat limited nuts and avocado and the odd dollop of nut butter and put tahini in my humous I just don’t put in the olive oil. I once did a no fat diet and all I dreamt about was fat. My skin and hair suffered as a result.
Honestly, the most horrifying part of this video was watching him stir the lemon seeds right into his sauce. Bleh.
Anna O'Bryan I came here looking for someone who said this!
Freelee would be proud
Did you season any of it? I don't cook with fat. I put nutritional yeast in some stuff. So good! I cut up potatoes and steam them. When they are done, I put salt, pepper, garlic powder, and maybe rosemary or thyme in it. Sometimes I put nutritional yeast. I just eat sweet potatoes as is. Omg, so good. You just have to know how to season stuff. Now salad is another story. I need fat with that. Lol.
Dried out and frazzled, my worst nightmare 😂🤣😂🤣 thank you for another awesome video 🍉 🍈 ❤️
Could you please make a full video about the idea that carbs can't be stored as fat (I think they call it "de novo lipogenesis") and why do you think they promote that idea even though (you think) it is not true? thank you :)
Watching Miles eating that bread...lmao.
“go and stand in the corner” 😂😂😂
I need my hummus , oils and nuts etc ..Excellent food ,Just starch is ghastly Must be like eating paper ...
I could imagine Miles eating some type of nut butter from the jar right after the 24 hours of this challenge was over and while editing this video
