Years ago I had a parkzone T-28 (44" wingspan). One day it went up too high and the wind blew it so far I could no longer tell the front end from the rear end. I kept moving the controls until the small speck in the sky was slowly getting larger. It was a miracle I got it back. 😹
The exact same thing happened to me about a month ago with my little XK Trojan. Unfortunately for me it got further and further away until I lost orientation and couldn’t tell which way it was going and away it flew. Never did find it.. but I bought another one!
Always had a special place in my heart for bi and tri wings. Built a balsa wood Dr 3 when in my 20 s. Rubber band powered and crashed it on the maiden. So, fixed it and put it on display in the den and never flew it again. This plane is larger than mine but the color reminds me of the Red Barron and my Dr3. Thanks for the memories and the excellent video. 👍👍😀
This is such a great channel. Love that you’ve branched out and are doing RC planes now. Been looking for something to move up to from my little XK Trojan and I think this FMS Pitts may be the ticket!
Thanks. When you fly hundrends, if not thousands of different drones over many years, you tend to branch out into helicopters and planes so as not to get bored.
Killer big stunt bird Steve!!!! Omg, even though I would probably destroy that thing on it's first flight, it's wicked nice. I'm on that aeroscout S2 level of flight. But would love to progress enough to take advantage of the things that big baby could do.
great kit Captain, iv just bought the Dancing wings Hobby E33 S.E.5A 800mm it will take time to build, like yours i hope it will fly just like yours great review again Steve.
The range on a Spektrum radio depends entirely on your use of a Spektrum RX that has a port or ports for their satellite receivers. I take advantage of additional Spektrum satellite receivers mostly for peace of mind and have had Spektrum since its beginnings without any issues at all. In my latest Giant Scale (30%) cub I am using a Spektrum 10 channel RX that offers two ports for omnidirectional satellite receivers and I use them both. Peace of mind.
For the FPV drone pilots, such as myself, we all abandoned Spektrum for the control of drones due to the poor range and penetration. Today you won’t find any FPV pilot using Spektrum. However, anything in the RC hobby that does not have a need for range or penetration, such as Planes, helicopters, cars, boats are still perfectly fine with Spektrum. When it comes to planes, I do indeed still use Spektrum.
i would like this with the fpv as the pilot head, just to cruise around and visit stuff. the kit looks really solid too. my main problem would be where to store this ?!
Very nice looking plane! My uncle was into aerobatics (with real planes), and I think he had one of these for a while. He was actually national champion for a couple of years 😊 Anyway, nice review as always Steve, yes this one is a little intimidating compared to the 400mm P51D Mustang I fly in the park on the weekends 😁 I'd love to see some inspirational videos on your channel for winter flying! We can't let the cold and snow stop us, now can we? ❤
I have to install a receiver in almost every plane, unless of course the plane is an RTF (READY TO FLY). Since I use a Spektrum Radio transmitter I installed a 6 channel Spektrum Receiver.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks... I've been scrolling through their webshop just now, and seems they're mainly PNP, but prices are in a range so anyone can play 👌👌👌
Great video as usual and a fantastic 3D biplane. What happened to your tail wheel, it was there in the unboxing and build, but missing in the maiden flight video?
I did 3 flights, and it fell off on the first landing. I didn't bother putting it back on as it acting as a nice brake on landing and made no difference on takeoff.
Hi Steve. Love that plane. I just bought one a week ago myself. Can you tell me if you left the Aileron, Elevator and Rudder travels, set to full travel at High Rate? There seems to be quite a discrepancy between the manual’s recommendations and the operation as assembled.
I never bother with the manuals as far as servo travel for the simple reason I fly every plane with dual rates set at 100% and 30 to 40% Expo. I move the right joystick very little thus no weird events in flight. Also I fly with two joysticks (as a FPV drone pilot) so I’m constantly modulating throttle and elevator and rudder in turns.
I can't decide which one to get! I'm a beginner to fpv, but I've been flying drones, NOT DJI, in line of sight. I just want to know wich has better camera quality.
Have you seen the promo MX radio control motor cycle, it does 80 mile an hour, it jumps, it does wheelies , its got working disc brakes, its fantastic , i think there about $6oo. I know you like motorbikes , so its right up your street.
I have the original version (that LOSI copied and rebranded as a Horizon Hobby version. I showed it in this video about half way into the video: ua-cam.com/video/WAjUHd5gP3A/v-deo.htmlsi=Yb8H_n1l5UKiWsJB
The new one looks even better , i got a six wheel rock crawler , and an RC F1 car , ime looking forward to this weekends Las Vegas Grand Prix , over 200 mph down the famous strech i have , driven down it on the F1 game its awsome.
Steve I’ve been following your channel for at least a year or two, and learned a lot about drones from your reviews. I own three DJI drones now. Anyway, I’ve thought about getting into RC planes too and how difficult is it to learn after years of drones ?? Thanks. Great video. !
If you had never flown a drone then your learning curve would be normal and scary. Since you have flown DJI drones your brain has an understanding of an object going away from you and coming towards you and joystick movement so your learning curve is cut in half. People that fly FPV drones have next to no learning curve in flying RC planes. Watch my video showing the Hobby Zone Aeroscout and Carbon Cub. I explain the joystick movement for newbies in that video.
It's nice but it's not really 3d in the hardcore sense, the surfaces are too small especially the ailerons, it will do hard ariobatics though ie flicks and snaps etc etc where there is plenty of speed going into the stunt. 3d required the ailerons to be large and have airflow from the prop strong enough over them in a hover to control the rotation allowing prop hanging and hovering etc, I remember there was a prop that was controlled pitch to go negative thrust too so plane could fly backwards in the right hands but in average hands could at least fly at ground and stop turn around and go back up lol, called that 4d hahaha.
I had a 1/3rd scale (68") span Byron years ago and flew it for 20 years before selling it. Ouch. Should have kept it. Great airplane in any wind condition. Sturdy and predictable.
LOL, you take me back in time! I too had a Byron Pitts that I sold, but also a Byron Christen Eagle (50cc) that I re-kitted 110% in a tree line I thought I was in front of coming out of split S to do a long, low inverted pass. Now, as you can see, my FMS Pitts is just ceiling art for far better longevity. 👍
If you want to learn 3d I strongly suggest NOT learning on this one but instead something made from epp, I built one from sheet epp some 20 years ago and learned on that , crashed it hard multiple times every flight and it either did no damage or was a quick glue or tape fix and back in the air, Nothing teaches you more than crashing hndreds of times over and over without fear until you get it nailed down solid lol. This model looks great though, I would like to see it put through its paces once you get your skills to 3d level.
Don’t you love the Canadian dollar. It makes people like yourself almost double the price since the exchange rate is bad and then you think I’m crazy when I say an item is not that expensive for what you get. Now people in the US find this to be a great price especially with the upcoming Black Friday prices. You get what you pay for and this is by far the best value for this size and build quality of PITTS. I’m starting to think you believe the RC hobby is an under $100 Canadian dollar hobby. In the RC hobby you get what you can afford. RC planes are very inexpensive compared to Drones, so thankfully you’re not in the higher end DJI drone hobby. I Try to review items under $1000 US because that is the average most in the US will spend in the hobby.
True, but honestly in my line of work, I have zero time for builds since I review hundreds of products per year. Also with foam, I have become an expert in quick field repairs.

Very nice RC Plane and review Steve.
FMS is coming out with some really solid planes over the years. This looks like it will be a great seller.
Doctor Drone at it again . U watch this channel u save money and get an HONEST OPINION..........................................
Awesome looking bird...
Oh yes. The rising sun plane, imperial nippon edition. Fabulous - _truly_ *subarasshi~*

Super cool
Excellent video, and excellent flying. Beautiful RC Biplane. Thank you Captain Steve.

She is purdy!!! I am in New England, and we have got down to 23 F. No snow yet thankfully! But it's coming....
Fun video ! 😃

I guessed this plane would be $399.00 US.
But, even better at $349.00 !

Rising Sun Flag

What a gorgeous plane!; quick question Captain; how did you manage to fit Aldryn Estacio (from FlytPath! ) into the cockpit !!!!!!!!!
It was not easy, and he was not willing, but in the end, he squeezed in :-)
Hey Steve, didn’t install a receiver ? If so, what receiver and was it easy ?
I have to install a receiver in almost every plane, unless of course the plane is an RTF (READY TO FLY). Since I use a Spektrum Radio transmitter I installed a 6 channel Spektrum Receiver.

Yes, you can get it with FMS REFLEX

For FPV the CETUS and AQUILLA are similar since they are analog, but I believe the Aquilla has a longer camera range.
Thank you so much! I'm not an expert when it comes to fpv, so I appreciate the info.
Hey Steve, Nice plane, On the simulator I get so much lift I can almost hover. Did you notice the extra lift, could you hover? Thanks
Plenty of lift. You could probably hover into a moderate to strong headwind.
