Just got the same saw today. Took me quite a while to assemble, and the instructions are not good. Thank goodness there were videos on UA-cam to help with any confusion. The one thing I don't like about the saw even before using it yet is the extension table wings. Idk why they made the tops made out of cheap laminate. Why it's not metal is where they cheaped out on. One came partially cracked, and another dented. I'm sure it happened during shipping, but if it were metal, that wouldn't have happened. Anyways Thanks for the video👌
I got the same saw about a year ago - came with instruction & assembly manuals, as an FYI. I think likely a fluke, as you said. Great saw. Thoroughly enjoyed mine (had to sell when moving, likely to get the exact same one again soon, if I can). Hope you get lots of years of great use out of 'er. Nice review, and great channel. Thanks for your review. I just ordered and should receive my saw (3 HP-36" version) next week. Cast iron extensions, good fence, top blade dust collection and miter gauge were on my list of must haves. The unit appears to be a quality built unit so I took a chance. Excited to receive and set it up. Plus Harvey was running a flash sale and I was able to get the saw for just under $2100 without tax or freight.
I had the same issue with locking the height adjustment on my secondhand Delta. and put a washer between the locking knob and shaft of the wheel and solved the problem. it seemed like the knob and wheel were coming into contact and that created the problem. good luck!
Great video. Your table saw cabinet and the dado stack box are awesome. Assuming similar construction between your miter saw cabinet, router table, and under table saw cabinet.
I have the Harvey ALPHA HW110LC-36P 10" 2HP Cabinet Table Saw. I got it on a Black Friday sale the last time it was ever offered for $1799. I wired mine to run on 240v, the saw came with that feature, and they even sent the 240v switch to replace the 120v one that comes installed on the saw. I also like the pullback feature of the fence and have used that often when cutting segments for wood turning. Harvey has just come out with a new rip fence that I wish my saw had. They addressed the issues I have found with mine. However, at a price of $1200 for this new fence system, I will keep my old fence. As for the blade adjustment wheels, I have found I do not have to tighten them all that tight to hold the adjustment. However, I did find that, if I don't tighten it at all, that small knob will eventually unscrew and fall off. Thanks for your review. BTW - I did not see the link to those caps for the overhead dust pipe.

Great review. I have the 4 Horse 36" Harvey, in operation since in operation since February 2022. I had some initial issues with my saw which have all been overcome and I'm very pleased with my purchase. Overhead dust collection: I too removed the overhead dust collecting pipe and guard, but for different reasons. I used the blade guard on my old table saw for years, as it would hinge up our of the way, which I very much liked. I still use a steel rule or a tape measure to adjust my fence to the blade as view finders are just not accurate enough for my liking and as I often bumped the view finders out of alignment, as I take the fence off my saw frequently. If the Harvey blade guard hinged up out of the way as some saw do (SawStop, for example) I believe I would use the overhead dust collection, especially with the fence in the low orientation, for clearance. I have two riving knives for different thickness saw blades and they work well. Lock knob: I know Harvey makes incrimental changes to their tools... the miter gauge as you pointed out for one. My locking knob for the height and tilt adjustments are different from your saw. The knobs on my saw are knurled steel and work very well. You don't even need to crank down on them to hold the adjustment wheels snug. I don't know if that's the new design for all Harvey table saws, but by the looks of it, I very much prefer the steel knobs. Manual: I had recieved a manual. Probably an oversight. Support Legs: I agree about the support legs. I had the same issue with a mobile base. I have since added the router table extension wing which came with improved legs. They included leg extensions to compensate for mobile bases with the added weight of the cast iron router table the legs are stable. Have a good one.
Excellent review. You have a very good presentation style. As a recent purchaser of a similar style saw I can relate to all the points you covered. Many thanks.
I am a professional woodworker looking to replace my older Delta cabinet saw. Thank you for your opinions and info. I would have liked to learn about the cabinet dust collection ability. Table saws are known to kick out fine shavings and an enormous amount of dust. SawStop has a directional port under the blade which minimizes space, thereby increasing its ability to capture dust, especially if fitted with a zero clearance throat plate insert. Harvey's hi-low fence is basically the same as the Delta's, and I absolutely love it. It's one of the reasons I'm still intrigued with the Harvey saw and not SawStop, Powermatic, Jet, etc. Unlike you and probably others, I feel strongly about using a blade guard. I use mine all the time, like a seat belt in a car. There are over 30,000 table saw injuries per year, most result in amputations, kick backs and even death. With the blade guard about 1/8" or less above you wood material, it helps reduce those injuries plus, if attached to suction, it sucks up much of the dust from the saw blade, that the cabinet port can't. There are a couple companies, including Harvey, that sell a 3-4 inch port overhead dust collection on a sturdy swing arm, anything smaller than 3" is useless. Harvey actually manufactures a very unique 'fish bowl' design guard, enabling it to also collect dust from edge and angle cuts, (Model S-12S 'Shark' Universal Overhead Guard). I think Harvey makes quality/precision tools overall and I enjoyed your input and review, however; I am concerned about not having a dealership network and furthermore, its resale value.
Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to show the saw. I'm still intrigued by the fence and the creative possibilities it might have. Shop is looking good! looking forward to more projects.
Nice review. I have had the 2Hp 36" for almost 3 years and couldn't be happier. My one 'peeve' with the fence is that both the tightener knobs for the fence are on one end of the fence. The far end of the aluminum extrusion always sags and scrapes on the table. THAT DRIVES ME NUTS! I love the silent swoosh of swinging the fence from 36 down to 1/4" without the sound of metal to metal. ALSO! I did the 'Carbon Method" ceramic coating on the table about 6 months ago - the table top is still flawless and slick I recommend using it. Not cheap, and I am not affiliated but it works.
Awesome. I hear you about the fence. I found a single layer of shop towel under the far end before tightening the knobs keeps it from hanging up. Lame but works. I also used carbon method on the top before I even used the saw and I agree it’s pretty slick stuff. I didn’t mention it in the video because I didn’t want to come off a product pusher. Plus I want to see how it holds up before I recommend it to anyone. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!
@@squareandlevel I use two empty Rockler gift certificate cards (credit cards) under each end of the fence to tighten but then, when I come back, the fence has drooped and scrapes on the table. It is just a bit frustrating that this precision piece of equipment has such a basic flaw. And awesome on the carbon method.
@@dennisdoherty3221 loosen the aluminum fence put a business card under each end, tighten the knobs and you will not have a fence that scrapes your table. You can also adjust the nylon slider on the outfeed end of the fence to lift it a millimeter or so, mine slides like butter.
Thank you very much for this video, I have looking for a new saw and was think Harvey maybe what i wanted but most of the the reviews i found where from people the Harvey gave a saw to. I understand that of them will try to be fair but it was great to find one from some that purchased the saw.
Don't got a Harvey yet but I ordered the new compass miter gauge..it just looks way nicer then all the rest, like you said one can just tell if something's a great tool..I want this saw so bad lol.. everyone that owns it loves it and that's nuff said to me...your pit falls with it is pretty much everyone's so maybe they'll fix them before I get it lol..they already fixed the miter gauge...
Great video, really loved your description and you helped make my mind up. My current table saw is a sawstop jobsite which is terrible and I am looking for a new one. My next table saw will be a Harvey for sure. I really like your workshop and set up as well. Your cabinets look great.
Thank you for posting this video. I am interested in the very model you reviewed and this may just have convinced me to pull the trigger. For the last 30 years I just knew I was going to purchase a Grizzly tablesaw when I retired, but after learning about Harvey tools recently (and reading a lot of reviews) I think things may have changed. I feel the same as you about the blade guard. I would like the dust collection part, but I also like to be able to see the blade when I'm cutting. Again, thank you for the video. I'm feeling better about this saw all the time. Just wish we could get American made products for reasonable prices.
I totally agree about the American made products. Sad that there are now zero table saws being produced in the US last time I looked. Designed, yes, but shipped over seas for production. Unfortunate that past events have led us here. Thank you very much for watching. Hope you have a great day!
Vast majority of comments on my videos are very positive. Really helps to keep motivated to continue trying to improve. Thanks for saying I don’t need to justify myself. I was just trying to explain to viewers my background, so they can take that into consideration before spending their hard earned money. I don’t claim to be an expert and don’t want to come off like I am presenting myself as one. Thanks for watching and the comment. Hope you have a great day!
Thanks for the review on this saw. I’ve been watching a few different reviews on this saw. And I really think this is the saw I’m going to be going with when I get the chance to. I’m really wanting to get away from my Grizzly table saw that I’ve had for a few years now. With growing my craft I’m not happy with the defects that it has.
Thanks for watching and glad I may have been some help. I’m curious what issues you have with your grizzly? It was on my list of possible options when I was deciding what to get. Thanks again. Hope you have a great day!
@@squareandlevel biggest issue it that the miter slots are not actually flat from front to back. They actually hump up in the middle. Makes using a sled a bit tricky if you don’t run thinner miter bars on the bottom. The other big issue is it’s hard to get square cuts because there is a dip between the miter slots where the blade is.
The 3HP does not come with the Dovetail Structured Trunnion System that their 4HP model comes with. How was it adjusting the trunnion to make it square when you got the table saw?
Thanks for watching and the question. The trunnion setup was slightly out of square to the top in the “dangerous” way when I got the saw. Adjusting it was not difficult. It has set screws that can be used to adjust the trunnion position in relation to the cabinet body once the 4 main bolts are loosened. Then I just squared the blade to miter slots by turning the set screws. One set screw is a little awkward to get to, but not too bad. I probably should have touched on that in the video. I am of the opinion that a large majority of table saw accidents are due to improperly set up saws. Whether it’s the top, trunnion, or fence. There was nothing wrong with my saw because it was out of square when I got it. It is an alignment procedure that needs to be checked on a regular basis. Thanks again for the excellent question. Hope you have a great day!
Great overview and wow, maybe an AH HA moment. The table top, extension wings, cabinet, side access doors, riving knife, extra dado insert, main rail seem to be designed and look exactly like a Grizzley 899, though a different color you have a bigger motor. Wonder if one manufacturer makes saws like this for other resellers like Grizzly and Harvey to market under their own brand names. I found that to be true for tools like spindle sanders and scroll saws... Dig your extension / work table too. Nice video!
Grizzly did at one time have Harvey (but under another name) produce their saws. Grizzly and Harvey had a difference of opinion and Grizzly went their different ways. But Laguna, Grizzly and I think Jet were all manufactures by the same company. After the Grizzly issue Harvey decided to brand themselves. After all they had vast knowledge from producing all the other brands. Either Laguna or jet discontinued a model of their band saw so Harvey got the OK and produced it under their name the Ambassador series, with upgrades. The new Harvey table saws have the big eye fence system and in August at the IWF in Atlanta they will unveil their new nickel plates table top. The gold tin coat didn't do as well as they had hoped. This new nickel coating is on the table top, top and bottom, its dipped like a chrome plating but the trunnion is also nickel plated. Really nice upgrade. I have the Carbon method on my table but Id love to get the new Nickel top just because it shines..
HTC mobile base I picked up on Amazon and had to do some modifications to so I could get the saw to be level. My shop floor is so uneven, it always creates a challenge when it comes to leveling tables or tools. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!
Not at this time. I honestly don’t think I have the room for it. Think I would have had to go with the 36” top if I wanted to fit the sliding table on the left of saw. No telling what the future holds though. Thanks for watching! Hope you have a great day!
You can not with their old fence the Master Fence, but on their new one the RedEye fence you can. The Red Eye fence only comes standard on the higher price units
Hoping you might be able to offer a little wisdom for my new Harvey saw. I have it all set up but cannot seem to get the riving knife to align well. The instruction manual shows a "b" set of screws that hold the riving knife in place, and an "a" set of set screws that adjust the riving knife. I loosened up the B, adjusted the A, alignment looks great...THEN...I retighten the B screws and the knife goes back out of alignment. Hoping you might have some wisdom for me...thanks in advance...
I also fall under the category of thinking about purchasing Harvey saw. I'm like you, engineer by day, wood and tool enthusiast by weekend. Do you feel that there would be much difference between the 3 and 4 HP? And i want the router extender, should i just go with 36 inch with router, or the 52 inch? I want to be able to rip 4X8 ply. Thank you
That’s exciting news about getting a new saw! I’ll try and answer your questions to the best of my ability. As far as 3hp vs 4hp. More is always better right? 3hp is plenty for me tho. Significant upgrade from the 1 3/4 hp I had before. Don’t quote me but if I remember correctly the 4hp was only available with the dovetail trunnion system which would probably make the setup up and maintenance of the saw easier than the standard type trunnion setup that the 3hp has. The router extension is very $$$, as you have to buy each component separately. It comes down to personal preference and space requirements. I had a router lift in my old saw left wing and didn’t like it. I decided to build a router table to go under the right wing of the new saw. I put a 2 part video together of table. Please check it out if you’re interested (shameless plug). If you do get the router extension, I would think you would just get the 36” saw and add the router extension to that. Since I don’t have it I can’t really give you any solid advice there. Hope that answers some of your questions. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!
it would be interesting to see if the height of the blade is moving when the knob is being tight. or how much. I am for sure buying a Harvey. thanks for the vid.
Great point! Definitely isn’t moving the blade much. Rarely would be an issue and is easy to hold the wheel in position while locking the knob. Just something I wanted to point out that is a little irritating. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!
mine is 3 years old and have had the same problem with tightening the knobs on depth and angle. i have always had an issue with constantly having to square the blade to the top and also constantly adjusting the fence. so much so that i just stopped using it for a while. it was frustrating. this past week i worked on getting it square again. i was hopeful this would be the time that it stayed square. squared the table to .001 of the blade and the fence to .001 to the blade. made my first cut "practice" cut with a very straight edge piece of plywood and it was close to a 1/4" off from top to bottom. being frustrated is an understatement.
Darren, I’m sorry to hear that. Sounds incredibly frustrating. I have not had any issues with staying square. Only thing I can come up with is to check and make sure the main beam where the fence rail bolts to front on saw is secure. I can’t see how it could be that far off if the table to blade and blade to fence are adjusted properly. Hope you get it figured out. Thanks for watching and have a good weekend! Scott
I know it is easy just to order a zero clearance throat plate, but I see you have a band saw it seems to me you could easily cut some hardwood to the right thickness and then use your regular plate as a template to make the shape for the opening.
I got the 36" version about 2 months ago now and really like it, but I have the same problem with the locking of the adjustment wheels as you do. I've noticed it far more on the angle adjustment wheel than the height adjustment wheel though since I rarely get too picky about the height compare to the angle.
I suppose so, but I think it would be too high off the the table. Im guessing 3”? I’ll double check when I get home from work. Depending on the thickness of materials being used it could possibly be an option. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!
I have a 52" delta unifence. got it new in 1994 and it still functions great. I love it and it also has the high-low function but I've only used that a few times. The fence looks all most identical to yours as far as the extrusion. Mine is rock solid after all these years and I wouldn't trade it for any other fence. I'm curious as to the dimensions of the extrusion. Is there and online reference I could look at that you know of?
Sorry I don’t know that info. You might be able to find something on Harvey’s website or maybe try emailing their customer service and see if you can get a dimensional schematic for the extrusion. Sorry I couldn’t help ya. Thanks for the watching, hope you have a great day!
Thanks for the reply. I checked on their website after commenting on your video and there was nothing about it. I was just curious because it looks so much like the unifence extrusion. Again, thanks for getting back to me. That is a nice looking saw by the way.@@squareandlevel
Harvey has built other companies table saw for years. They only recently came out with their own line. The improvements that they have added in a short period has been exceptional.
Hi, I have the 36” saw on the way, thanks for the info!!! I got the mobile base from Harvey and notice you have one on yours. How does it roll. The published weight is like 511 pounds (wow! Lol). My hope is to keep it against the wall in my garage/wood shop and pull it out when I use it and turn it when I cut sheet goods.
Very exciting! I do not have the mobile base from Harvey. I took it off my old saw. I picked it up on Amazon. It does not roll great. The 36” should easier to roll than the 52”. I still wouldn’t want to be moving it often. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!

Good review, thank you. That price doesn’t seem too bad. Hard to believe it doesn’t have a manual with it.
Pretty sure the missing manual was a mistake. Others viewers have said theirs came with one. Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for this video, I have looking for a new saw and was think Harvey maybe what i wanted but most of the the reviews i found where from people the Harvey gave a saw to. I understand that of them will try to be fair but it was great to find one from some that purchased the saw.
Very helpful review - great details and an honest take on this saw - thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! Hope you have a great day!
WOW. Congrats on over 2000 subscribers. That number doubled quickly! Continued success.
Thanks Nick. Really appreciate the support you’ve always shown me. You use that cutting board yet? Please tell me your not using it as a decoration.
It's too pretty to use! I just can't bring myself to do it. It's kinda sacreligious. Sorry@@squareandlevel
I am in the market for a table saw and considering this model. Thank you for posting a great review. I like your style.
Did you decide on a saw yet? I’m in market too but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
Congratulations on your new saw it looks great can’t wait to see what you make with it
You and me both!
Great in-depth review!
Thanks for watching!
Can you supply the link to the caps to cover the blade guard port? Thanks.
You do not need to justify yourself or qualifications. Don’t listen to haters
I really like this video, and it's definitely helpful! I was looking at getting a saw soon, and it looks like the Harvey could be a good choice.
I’m glad you found it helpful. I hope you find the perfect saw. Good luck with your search!
Struggling to narrow down a mobile base, which one are using?
Great review! Thanks for your insight.
Nice saw, nice shop, I hate blade guards too! Thanks!
Nice and informative video. What mobile base did you use for the saw? Thanks
HTC mobile base I picked up on Amazon and had to do some modifications to so I could get the saw to be level. My shop floor is so uneven, it always creates a challenge when it comes to leveling tables or tools. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!
are you considering the sliding table for the saw? cheers
Not at this time. I honestly don’t think I have the room for it. Think I would have had to go with the 36” top if I wanted to fit the sliding table on the left of saw. No telling what the future holds though. Thanks for watching! Hope you have a great day!
can you move the aluminum extrusion to the other side of the fence for cuts to the left of the blade? You could do that on the old unifence.
I’m sorry unfortunately I do not. Mine adjusted with no issues like you are describing. Sorry I couldn’t help.
That’s a great review. Thanks.
I got the 36" version about 2 months ago now and really like it, but I have the same problem with the locking of the adjustment wheels as you do. I've noticed it far more on the angle adjustment wheel than the height adjustment wheel though since I rarely get too picky about the height compare to the angle.
I ordered a Harvey. It’s still in boxes since I had to move my storage into my garage 😢. It’s been 4 months.
With the fence in the low position, if you flipped it end over end could you use it as an L fence? Thanks for the in-depth look at the saw .
I suppose so, but I think it would be too high off the the table. Im guessing 3”? I’ll double check when I get home from work. Depending on the thickness of materials being used it could possibly be an option. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a great day!
Fence measures 2 1/4”(55mm) off the table top flipping it as you described.
Good review, thank you.
Did you mention that tilting the blade from 0 to 45 degrees requires 60 (Yes 60) rotations of the tilt wheel.
No. I did not. I honestly never even noticed that. Good thing to point out if that is an issue for anybody. Definitely not an issue to me personally.
Great video. thank you
Is Harvey and Saw Stop from the same company? They look similar. Good review. Thanks
No they are not. Thanks for watching, hope you have a great day!
@@squareandlevel Thanks for the quick response!!! I can’t wait till it gets here. I enjoyed your video! I always learn from videos like yours.
Great video!
Thanks!
Why not sawstop sir?
seams like a great tool…but I hate spending 3000 with no local dealer support
Are you really a factory certified auto technician if you don’t have 30k snap on tool box in your shop? Haha as someone who worked in the auto industry and now a hobbyist woodworker I have and always need more tools. I wish there was a rockler truck that would drive up to my garage a couple times a month.
Anybody w $3000 is qualified
Excellent video! I love my 4 hp dovetail cabinet saw ❤️❤️❤️
Turned for not being a professional woodworker.
It's not a SawStop. End of review.
I won't spend that kind of money on a Chinese saw when we can do better.
a chat bot replied to my comments lol. this is not a shop its a comerical studio
RAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Then the band saw blocked with another table next to it ? omg this is a fake studio
🤣🤣I’m just gonna take it as a compliment that you think my shop looks like a fake studio. By all means check out my other videos and you can see the shop in use. Have a good one!
These comments before me must be fake. all these idiots saying how great this si... Guys "ITS FAKE
Just a fake comercial ad video. AHHH DUUHHH look at the fake dust collection pvc pipe going to the floor???? really then where LOL not a drop of dust anywhere . who ever produced this video should know that anyone who is really a wood worker in their own shop knows this is FAKE. Still not sure3 why you guys do this? please enlighten me ?
I do like to keep my shop clean. Definitely not anything fake about my video. Sorry you didn’t like it. Hope you have a great day.
so where does the cut offs go when youtr table saw is 2 feet from a wall moron ?@@squareandlevel
He literally has a video going over his dust collection system and how it works. Doesn't look very fake to me.
You’re probably the largest tool in your personal shop, aren’t you?
