- Fun and simple day that I filmed here on the river! It started out with some dock Snook and then because of a hunch to tried for some Pompano. I went to a spot where I saw one the day before and they were there!! I caught a limit of delicious Pompano and even a Sheepshead!! I hope you all enjoyed!!

Nice, good job. I live in Cape Coral, can NOT get a window to fish ! The winter wind is 8 -15 most days, just too much aggravation for the yak. Went yesterday and turned around and went back home, errr.

Caught my first river pompano down river from there on New Year’s Day! Only one of the day though with 4 guys jigging on all sides of the boat

Come back to that spot this time of year next year and we'll see if I'm right. We catch more pompano off the jetty where I live (FL. panhandle) than any other areas but they'll get in this hole off the end of the jetty where the incoming tide carries food into, you have to cast in that hole otherwise you rarely catch a pompano. People farther down the jetty think they're doing something wrong but there's no pompano where they're casting.
After I filmed this video I went back like 8 other times and I’ve caught em. They are there pretty good on the outgoing tide.
When you find the baby snook on the edge of the mangroves like that the big ones are deeper in the mangroves go to mud creek good spot little farther north

Pompano are funny like that, they seem to bunch up in a small spot and you can find them in the same area year after year at the same time.

Happy New Year man!! Crazy how hard those Pomps pull. They really go hard. When you fish them in the river i always tied a streamer on as a dropper off the hook of the voodoo. Somedays they will crush that little fly just liile guys do with the banana jigs on the beach
What type / size of fly do you use? Like a streamer or a shrimp pattern? Just curious thanks
Ohhh I’ll have to try that. It sounds like a great idea! I wish I had a 6wt fly rod and I would try and catch them with that. I have a 10wt but I think that would be overkill
@jefflemaster2850 it's just the most basic streamer man trimmed short on usually like a #2 all purpose . Google Pompano jig and dropper or trailer. Just a little hair usually Chartreuse white or pink n white but about 1/2 the size of the main bait whatever it may be
@FishAholicTV yeah the 10 would be a bit much man but I just use spin. I love the fight so I always downsize to like a 7' medium or med light and 10lb braid with a 20lb leader and have hooked a couple Permit and had my ass kicked royally.

Happy new year! I was thinking about driving down to Florida from VA to fish for a couple days, I just wanted to knock out the snook/tarpon/jack itch that your videos have given me, would that be worthwhile to try to get that done in early January? I also don’t have a boat and would be fishing from wherever I could walk to.
If you want to catch snook and tarpon you’d have to go pretty far south and where the water temps are warmer. Best option is probably the keys right now… especially if you’re shore fishing. Otherwise fort pierce area would be ok but not the best for shore fishing, it’d be better if you had a kayak like Rich in the video. Do with that information as you will haha
Hire a guide. Heck, hire Rich. He just started doing charters. Trust me, a day trip with a good guide is worth 5 years of trying to figure it out yourself.
Hey Christopher, I would say you would want to fish from day Sebastian south to Jupiter for your best bet at a good snook or jack. This are can also be great for Tarpon but it’s best like Spring through summer and early Fall. This time of year your better bet would be fishing in the Florida keys for Tarpon. Night fishing under some do the bridges can be epic!!

Those Pompano seem to fight really hard for not too large of a fish…
They are in the jack family and there isn’t a harder fighting group of inshore fish.
