I love the first predator movie, but i gotta say, this is honestly my favorite in the series. The environment, the special effects, the world-building, and yes even the characters were all great for me. And honestly the nikolai was my favorite character. And the twist at the end really got me when i first watched it, and on sub-sequent watches i picked up on the foreshadowing they did that lead up to said twist and made it even more of a fun watch.
This is the only predator movie I've seen, so I'm not exactly an expert on this franchise, but I love this movie. The first time I watched it was when i found it at three in the morning after flicking through channels, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end.
THANK YOU! Predator 1987 is my favorite film, have the comics, and saw Predators 2010 when it came out. I still very much enjoy it and re-watched it tonight after several years and I still enjoy it for what it contributes to the lore.
I love this film. I was in my late 20s for the 1st film...iconic, of course. This film is my 2nd favorite. I really enjoyed the characters. The elegant Adrian Brody does a masterful job of being a hard ass and so intelligent, but compassionate to Isabell. Then, there's the wonderful scene with the katana-wielding man, the subtle nod, the choreography and field of grass. The vicious betrayal of the doctor. The honor & kindness, bravery of Nikolai, who kept his word to the perfidious doctor. To me, it's a deeper film, with consideration of human traits (Noland's psychosis). And the note that all the people on the planet are "predators" but some are "human", perhaps.

There seems to be a little bit of a resurgence of late with movie makers realising that to make a good sequel, you just need to stay true to what the original did with a few minor changes. We saw this with Prey and now Alien Romulus. I love this movie, and I also would have said it was the best Predator sequel until Prey came out.

Years later, in the run up to watching The Predator (which i had already heard was gash), i rewatched the first 3 movies and had a bit of an awakening and came to realise that Predators really, REALLY, holds up. Also, after actually watching The Predator, it helped me to realise that the call backs to the original movie were really well crafted, and not awkwardly shoehorned cringe. PS, Nikolai was the second best character after Hanzo. He took the Preds penchant for blowing themselves up, and used it against them. On top of that, he was also a family man of such calibre, that it would make Guile from Street Fighter reconsider using it as an insult.
This movie is like the Prequel trilogy. In which the studios fuck up the sequels so much (The Predator 2018 and Sequel trilogy) that the previous instalments are now getting the recognition they deserve.
Apparently the narrator doesn't grasp the concept of an ambiguous or open ending. The fact that they walk into the distance supporting one another resolutely and bravely while viewing the new prey subjects float in is a perfect ending. It perfectly illuminates their character and drive to survive by cooperation. What more does the viewer need?
If I don't understand what an open ending is, why did I end my own film with one? There's a difference between an open ending and a sequel teasing cliffhanger. Learn the difference.

I do love the fact it takes place on a game hunt planet with a bunch of people with certain aspects that made them predators on earth and made them worthy to be hunted by the super predators
I had fatigue with the series after the avp movies and so had passed on watching this when it came out. As a kid i didnt quite care for predator 2, but as an adult i can see it for the better film it is. That being said years after predators came out i watched it one late night and absolutely loved it aside from a few things. I had been told it was garbage so I didn't give it a chance. My god, was i wrong. It's a great predator movie. I guess my major dislike was topher Grace's character. He felt out of place and I felt it detracted from the film.
Absolutely! Idk why everyone cried about Adrian Brody. Topher Grace's involvement felt like your average cynical studio executive move to try and appeal to a younger audience that might not have nostalgia for the franchise. His character was written so poorly. The whole reveal about him being a murderer was executed like a clumsy child. He wants to stay on the planet because being a murderer on earth makes him a freak? Does he think that if he murders 2 of the 3 people they have left to hunt, that they'll just let him into their hunting gang and give him cool weapons instead of hunting him? He saw that they had one of their own kind strung up to a tree just for being different? What makes him think the Predators will accept him just because he killed other humans? Their ability to kill other human beings is why they were chosen to be hunted in the 1st place. 🤦♂️
There kinda at least was a follow up comic to this - the two continue to survive and the guy goes out to hunt a lot. Eventually it seems that he was taken notice by the Predators and given some of their gear. Don't remember what happened after tho.
Great video man. Also love the cowboy bebop music use! I do like this film. It stays faithful to what we know in the universe and expands it a little. The follow up comic to this film that takes place after the film was sadly a bit meh.

Predator 2 and Predators are very nice movies that can't live to the original but try new things. Predator 2 play with the city, cop genre and new toys for our favorite alien and expanding the lore, same with Predators but this one came back more to the formula of the original with a more sci-fi twist and a loooot more lore and world building (and lot of action and badass moments)... and then we have The Predator and f*ck. But Prey did again, the same as Predators, came back to the formula but tries to tell a more human story with in my opinion the most badass Predator and with such a cool design, expand the lore showing us that their tech is less futuristic that the original and more. All the movies (except The Predator) are very good movies that tries being more that a copy of the og. I want to see the next entry, maybe... vikings vs Predator? I will love that so much! I remember watching predator and alien on my PSP (LOL) and thinking the predator was the coolest freakin monster I’d ever seen in a movie. Then I see AVP 1 and 2 and am supremely bored, outside of the ancient aliens theme which intrigued me. I then played that 2010 AVP game and saw this and thought both were the coolest things of all time (2010 was good to the predator franchise!) This was also my first rated R movie I saw in theaters so it was beyond a big deal to me, I went with my older brother and I thought it was the most badass shit I’d ever seen on film and wanted more….then we got nothing until the predator, and I wish we had just gotten nothing lol.
Was stupid that the studio never followed up on this ending. They had something great here and wasted the opportunity. Predator 2 (1990) and this are the best sequels. They had passion and respect for the 1987 original. Something totally gone in The Predator (2018) and Prey (2022).

Predators 2010 did everything the predator 2018 tried and failed doing, like the super predator, the hell hounds, a predator sympathetic to humanity, a rag tag group of people who don't know each other (kinda) etc. Except predators took itself seriously enough and over all executed those ideas infinitely better than the predator could dream. The dogs were scary in predators, Mr black and his crew were scary in predators, the blood feud was way cooler, the predator fight is way cooler, everything is superior to the predator. Yea the super predators from predators are some of the coolest yautja in the franchise and I desperately wanna see more of this blood feud. But whenever I see the predator I wanna Guage my eyes out so I won't have to look at that terrible cgi abominations that are the dogs with predator heads for some ungodly reason, they look ridiculous design wise and they look like a ps5 cutscene.
No, it's not. 1. It exploited the original one. Almost the way the creators of the second Predator were trying to avoid. 2. The hounds. 3. The group of comic characters that were drawn together in the middle of nowhere for hunt. Is it ok? Ok. But why comic? The way they killed them one by one is more than stupid. There is only one Predator movie and it's the first one. The closest attempt to success is the second one. With flaws, but made with care. Everything else is just a pile of garbage trying to exploit the franchise. It fails over and over again. First, because the creators are trying to impress the viewer or trying to "talk to a new audience". They are unable to adapt the old movie for the new standards or use the new standards in the old movie. There are good ideas, but they are undeveloped. Unfortunately.
A better question would be why do you like it? There's not much to like about it. If you're judging it as a movie, it has awful acting, a terrible screenplay with atrocious dialogue and flat characters, and bland directing. If you're judging it as a fan of the franchise, it's bad because it retcons the predator lore to include aliens in a way that doesn't make much sense, it has a bad predator design, and it focuses so much on the cardboard human characters that there's barley any Aliens fighting Predators in a movie called Alien vs Predator.
When they came across the dead black ops guy and his gun is still in his hand they walk away and leave it there. OK. So the Bill Paxton substitute death row inmate was fine with his shiv. Fuck that gun! It almost took me out of the film as much as Busey`s top half floating in the meat locker.
A knit pick but goggins spinal rip Predator fatality lacked a loud pain scream really lacked impact with the sound. Thankfully Alan Silvestri's score was amazing but sadly no Predator 2 expanded score. Oh the trilogy we never got damn shame !!!

Predators looses me instantly on the premise, how did the predators beam up the killers in the beginning? Do they have Star trek tech? How did the predators find them? Do they have a surveillance team on Earth looking for killers? How did they find the doctor assuming he did all his killings secretly... So damn stupid and I've never seen a review talk about this
You've never seen a review talk about it because it's nitpicky as hell and irrelevant to the overall quality of the movie. The objections you raise can easily be raised with other, more classic and revered sci-fi movies. It's called suspension of disbelief. If you can't get with it, ok, but most other people aren't going to have that initial problem.

Dudes constant bagging on Predator 2 almost made me click off the video. There's just no way you lump Predator 2 in with AVP and so on. It literally gave the predator some of its most iconic moments, with weapons and lore expansion and was the last predator movie outside of Prey to keep in continuity of Predators only coming in hot seasons. No way you're doing this deep of a predator dive and come out thinking Prestor 2 still deserves to be sandbagged with the reason of the trash. Predator, Predator 2, Predators and Prey are top Predator media.

Idk man. Brody was pretty ripped in Predators. He's no Arnie, but for his body type he put on a quite a bit of muscle iirc.

Predators and predator 2 are underrated after rewatching them for a third time. I just think people expect them to be on the first movies level but if you go into them not thinking that you can still enjoy them. Also prey is probably the best we've had since the first but still not better to me and overrated.
I remember watching predator and alien on my PSP (LOL) and thinking the predator was the coolest freakin monster I’d ever seen in a movie. Then I see AVP 1 and 2 and am supremely bored, outside of the ancient aliens theme which intrigued me. I then played that 2010 AVP game and saw this and thought both were the coolest things of all time (2010 was good to the predator franchise!) This was also my first rated R movie I saw in theaters so it was beyond a big deal to me, I went with my older brother and I thought it was the most badass shit I’d ever seen on film and wanted more….then we got nothing until the predator, and I wish we had just gotten nothing lol.
Was stupid that the studio never followed up on this ending. They had something great here and wasted the opportunity.
Predator 2 (1990) and this are the best sequels. They had passion and respect for the 1987 original. Something totally gone in The Predator (2018) and Prey (2022).

Predators 2010 did everything the predator 2018 tried and failed doing, like the super predator, the hell hounds, a predator sympathetic to humanity, a rag tag group of people who don't know each other (kinda) etc. Except predators took itself seriously enough and over all executed those ideas infinitely better than the predator could dream. The dogs were scary in predators, Mr black and his crew were scary in predators, the blood feud was way cooler, the predator fight is way cooler, everything is superior to the predator. Yea the super predators from predators are some of the coolest yautja in the franchise and I desperately wanna see more of this blood feud. But whenever I see the predator I wanna Guage my eyes out so I won't have to look at that terrible cgi abominations that are the dogs with predator heads for some ungodly reason, they look ridiculous design wise and they look like a ps5 cutscene.
No, it's not.
1. It exploited the original one. Almost the way the creators of the second Predator were trying to avoid.
2. The hounds.
3. The group of comic characters that were drawn together in the middle of nowhere for hunt. Is it ok? Ok. But why comic? The way they killed them one by one is more than stupid.
There is only one Predator movie and it's the first one. The closest attempt to success is the second one. With flaws, but made with care. Everything else is just a pile of garbage trying to exploit the franchise. It fails over and over again. First, because the creators are trying to impress the viewer or trying to "talk to a new audience". They are unable to adapt the old movie for the new standards or use the new standards in the old movie. There are good ideas, but they are undeveloped.

why do you hate the first avp movie, i do get why you would hate requime and especelly the predator.
A better question would be why do you like it? There's not much to like about it. If you're judging it as a movie, it has awful acting, a terrible screenplay with atrocious dialogue and flat characters, and bland directing.
If you're judging it as a fan of the franchise, it's bad because it retcons the predator lore to include aliens in a way that doesn't make much sense, it has a bad predator design, and it focuses so much on the cardboard human characters that there's barley any Aliens fighting Predators in a movie called Alien vs Predator.
I never thought Predators was that bad. Mid for the series, sure, but certainly not terrible like "The Predator".
When they came across the dead black ops guy and his gun is still in his hand they walk away and leave it there. OK. So the Bill Paxton substitute death row inmate was fine with his shiv. Fuck that gun! It almost took me out of the film as much as Busey`s top half floating in the meat locker.

A knit pick but goggins spinal rip Predator fatality lacked a loud pain scream really lacked impact with the sound. Thankfully Alan Silvestri's score was amazing but sadly no Predator 2 expanded score. Oh the trilogy we never got damn shame !!!

Predators looses me instantly on the premise, how did the predators beam up the killers in the beginning? Do they have Star trek tech? How did the predators find them? Do they have a surveillance team on Earth looking for killers? How did they find the doctor assuming he did all his killings secretly... So damn stupid and I've never seen a review talk about this
You've never seen a review talk about it because it's nitpicky as hell and irrelevant to the overall quality of the movie. The objections you raise can easily be raised with other, more classic and revered sci-fi movies. It's called suspension of disbelief. If you can't get with it, ok, but most other people aren't going to have that initial problem.

Dudes constant bagging on Predator 2 almost made me click off the video. There's just no way you lump Predator 2 in with AVP and so on. It literally gave the predator some of its most iconic moments, with weapons and lore expansion and was the last predator movie outside of Prey to keep in continuity of Predators only coming in hot seasons. No way you're doing this deep of a predator dive and come out thinking Prestor 2 still deserves to be sandbagged with the reason of the trash. Predator, Predator 2, Predators and Prey are top Predator media.
