    This is the single best synopsis of the entire affair, hands down. Pat, every word you say resonates with me like music. I am proud to be one of the little people who just wants to be left alone by the bureaucratic tyrants. It's the essence of what it is to be British.

      Sargon of Akkad It’s funny in some ways. In the 60’s it was the phrase “Do your own thing”. In the 90’s it was “Think different.” Now in the states in 2018 the far leftist line of Diversity now means “Think the same but look different.” :(

      Federer935 we do need the arts in our society. However where it was once a respected and extremely clever way of engaging with the past and discovering how so much is connected the lecturers that were decent knowledgable well educated people have been replaced with snow flake, bi sexual, transgender, gay, lesbian, feminists who have been brought up with zero discipline and maximum self entitlement. The change from higher education establishments from places of discovery and learning into places of mass dumbed down education where the goal is to graduate, wear the gown and throw the cap into the air. It’s these graduates that now dominate universities, media and the arts. It’s these stupid fools leading us into hell.

      @stuartpaul9995 6 років тому +6

      I think he`s delusional but he`s only one amongst many. What I`m more concerned about is the impact of those delusions on daily life,
      It`s becoming more and more evident that Brexit will be an economic disaster.
      Isn`t it time to start considering the consequences of its consequences?
      Historically the usual results of economic chaos are the rise of extremist politicians and ideologies. Repression , `dissidents` locked in football stadiums, disappearances, assassinations , torture, racist extremism, and often even outright war
      We`re wondering about trade deals in Africa when the real danger could be a Britain being run by a conglomerate of its extremists. Sleazy lying spivs from UKIP with their ingratiating `man of the people ` manner that reminds everyone of Jimmy Saville, thugs from drunken racist football hooligan gangs, White power neo nazi cretins, and loonies who rant nonsense about Kalergi Plans and zionist conspiracies. You think the present government is mediocre, how would you like your country run by that lot?
      Before you tell me I`m exaggerating, consider David Copeland and Thomas Mair, the calls for `strong leadership` and the rise in hate crimes, . These are the symptoms of a rise of what exactly?
      The consequences of Brexit will be disastrous, but the consequences of that disaster could well be even worse.
      Bear in mind that the last time there was an economic meltdown in a European country it caused the greatest tragedy the world has ever known and 60 million deaths.
      So Britain, quo vadis?

      +Matthew Shrubsole Well, Churchill was a great leader during WW2 but before and after he really wasn't a good politician. His involvement in Sudan and Gallipoli is also questionable (to say the least).
      Thatcher was a strong leader, but that doesn't mean she was good. Yes, the economy had to modernise and the unions were very strong, but she oversaw those changes and caused widespread suffering for huge numbers of people. It paved to way for the bullshit we're currently living in.
      I don't know why you're so pissed off with Cameron in particular. He is a cunt, obviously, but it was his decision to give us a referendum. The pig-fucker just happened to be the one that fucked everything up so bad it gave us an opportunity to Leave. I'm not surprised by how things have gone. The vast majority of parliament don't want to leave and they're supposed to represent the majority. Of course it's in their interest to fuck it up.

      52% of people voted to leave the EU because journalists care more about trying to dumb down society by telling them to care about talentless celebs, than telling people about how Tories and ex Tories in UKIP want to leave so they can treat most people worse. So there's nothing in the way of upper classes, bankers and corporations making more money, at expense of others. People think Nigel Farage has the best interests of British people just because UK is in UKIP, when he's an ex banker living in another country who pays his foreign wife on tax payers expenses and was found to be hiding money in foreign tax havens.
      Somebody would ask people to look at USA section in supermarket, and see EU compliant labels over original USA ones, to see as they don't have to label as much in USA then the food is more likely to contain junk. Reese's Pieces alone contain GM ingredients and colourings which cause hyperactivity in children.
      Nigel Lawson whose foreign family changed their name like Boris Johnson's to sound more British, helped closely link our economy with USA in the 80s relying on many being in debt, after they made millions unemployed, for economy to crash by early 90s so they could use as excuse to make many suffer, such as after they stole and sold off most social housing without using money to build more, they made 18 year old in bedsit pay same poll tax as Lord in a manor, VAT increases, taking away old people's free eye tests, while they gave the rich tax cuts. Nigel Lawson was advising us to leave the EU while he applies to live in France

The nation state is simply the largest cohesive unit - it is kept together by history, geography, language and shared culture. If you destroy any of those shared elements then society breaks down and chaos ensues. Mock it or dismantle it at your peril. Change should be at a suitable pace and relatively consensual for it to work in the long term. On the day it was announced that Britain was leaving the EU, my Facebook page was absolutely poisonous, with almost all my friends complaining bitterly about how older people had jeopardised everything and how they were racist and bigoted. I was even invited to a protest called "Liverpool stays", which never happened.
    So, yeah, I voted remain because I listened to my friends, which just goes to show how naive and blinkered I was in University. The fact that they crumbled and threw their toys out of the pram the moment things didn’t go their way helped to red-pill me. So, I thank them for their childish immaturity that helped me dodge a bullet.

      Remainers, and now some leavers, want a vote on the final deal or keeping the status quo. That is democracy. Even morons like you can't have signed up to total economic destruction when the window lickers running the negotiations work away with no deal.
      You half wits always bang on about democracy (because 51% voted in favour) yet seem unwilling to consider the idea of voting against something that will cripple the economy, down to the negations of an incompetent government and morons chanting "leave means leave".

      @simplifygardening 6 років тому +10

      And its thinking like that will keep the shackles on the UK. Stand up take a breath and realise that the UK stood on its own two feet right up until 1975. Yes, the economy will struggle initially but when you can choose your marketplace you can recover, Has the last two recessions not taught you anything? It doesn't work. When you have working families going to food banks the system is broken. Time to change. The prob is that most are brainwashed into thinking there is nothing better out there. Do you honestly think the likes of big car manufacturers are not going to want our business, Just one example, and yes it may mean that some industries pull out of the UK, but that is when the UK does what it has always done? It will grit its teeth and stand up and pull up its breeches and say right let's sort this shit out. Two many fat cats are worried about getting their fat pensions from Brussels when you have hard working folks like the emergency services been cut to death no pension left to even worry about all in the name of austerity. Don't preach to me about democracy.

      Leavers majority are uneducated. Remainers majority are educated. Those are facts and stats. You are hurt about it but it's just facts. Leavers want to cover their ears and pretend all the warnings that experts are talking about regarding the fallout of brexit is just "project fear" and scare mongering. You don't want to acknowledge the consequences of brexit. We'll see how it goes when Britain actually crashes without a deal and thousands of jobs are lost when companies leave.

    • @johnosborne4374
      @johnosborne4374 6 років тому +5

      See, all you've really come up with there is "we were ok before 1975 (one of the most ludicrous arguments any brexiteer can put forward, as it has absolutely no bearing on anything current) and "Britain will sort it out".
      How exactly? You all seem to be the experts. How? With "deals"?
      You do understand the complexity of operating under WTO rules and negotiating deals with individual countries? I assume you know it takes quite a long time?
      You do understand all the deals lost through a "no deal" brexit, which will inflate costs drastically in the short term while those "deals" get negotiated?
      You do realise that the EU will of course not want to give the UK (who are currently backing out of a deal) any concessions on deals? Given the way the UK has behaved during the whole ordeal, do you think the deals will be favourable?
      I assume you understand how many UK businesses will got out of business with the infalted costs, wages, difficulty with the customs transitions etc etc. Loss of jobs, money from overseas.
      You want to talk about food banks? That's so insulting. Food prices will go up, costs will go up, unemployment will go up. You know this, and yet you're happy with it? "Britain will sort it out?" Tell that to the people who it's going to affect the most. Ask them, if they are confident in a government that couldn't come to an arrangement in 2 years of negotiations! Ask them, if they trust Boris Johnson is going to look after their best interests going forward while you all sit there gleaming about "sovereignty", blue passports and fish.
      You're all gamblers. Gambling with our futures. And you don't want the country, (49% mind you) to have a final say on where that leads.
      Whatever comes next, you asked for it. I hope your gamble is right.

    • @simplifygardening
      @simplifygardening 6 років тому +4

      The only people who are not moaning about staying in the EU is the fat cats, those who are gaining massively from the EU. Your spewing the crap the EU want you to spew. Dont get me wrong, I am under no illusion that we wont get a decent deal from Brexit, However what the hell did you expect with a remainer running the country. But all this is MUTE anyway, We are leaving either way. It does not matter what you want or wish for Its been voted for we will all live with it one way or another. The very fact you think we will implode is a joke. Like I said we will suffer initially, I know that folks will suffer. But our money no longer buys what we were able to before. The british person has been getting worse off each year by the thousands. On top of that you got the fat cats who think that they can choose what is best, its bullshit. Whether you agree with the results or not It makes no difference. A democratic vote is binding, You had your shot and the people spoke whether that is 51% or 99% the majority voted to leave despite the governments efforts to talk the country out of it

    Dear Pat, not long after "B Day" 2 years ago my son and his girlfriend took us out to dinner. The conversation got around to Brexit, and my IT industry-working much-travelled son went off on a tirade about Brexit, presuming that his mother and I had either not voted, or voted to remain. He described "leavers" pretty much just as you said, but included "old and short-sighted," and said something like "this is what happens when so many old racists who were around in world war II are still able to vote..." Now I'd been listening to his whinging and whining with an amused expression on my face, but THAT insulting nonsense set me off on the first telling-off I'd given him in about 15 years (he was a very good kid), and included the revelation that his parents had voted to leave (and were proud of the fact) and a fairly lengthy explanation of why we'd come to the conclusion that the EU was poisonous (including just about remembering pre-Common Market Britain with all its "awful" railways, manufacturing industries and agriculture.) He'd tried to interject here and there but I wouldn't let him, and when I'd finished was kind-of stunned, and tried to think of a clever comeback, but was hushed by his lovely girlfriend... I don't think I've ever enjoyed a steak more!

    I resent being called racist as I'm part Indian and my family has experienced real racism in the past. It's fallacious to say that everyone who voted to leave did so out of a fear of foreigners. Many people voted to leave because of the inherent dangers of centralized power. This is a fact. However, the media doesn't want to broach this difficult political argument because they may lose the debate. Instead they use the tried and tested method of dehumanization so as to justify their ad hom attacks. Yes, the time-honoured strategy of bigots - belittle your enemy, and cultivate irrational hatred of them. They are hypocrites.

    Right on Pat!
    Mr. Condell mentions Trump in the beginning, the Trump vote. This video and his comments makes clear what is going on in England is analogous to what is going on here in the US. Although Pat speaks of it in terms of 'Democracy' and the democratic vote, and as Pat is British, the sovereign individualism of the US Republic is or at least was one step ahead and more grounded in the rights of the individual. To give credit though, rooted in the English/Scottish political enlightenment.
    This is a very powerful commentary by a very competent classical liberal commentator. And again analogous to what is happening politically in the US today.
    The Progressive tide has turned and is receding. The Progressives are left screaming and their private parts are being exposed for what they are. Ugly and hateful and divisive, anti-individual rights freedom robbing socialist thugs that they are.
    The good news is, it looks like a solid majority of sensible people both in Britain and the US are expressing their desire for a change for the better. We have had enough.
    Pat, keep speaking the good speak!

      Robin Smith, Turning is probably more accurate. And with this turning tide the progressives are most definitely 'exposing' their truest ugly nature.

    Don't do what we did in Ireland. We voted No to the Lisbon treaty twice and they did not stop until they got us to vote Yes. You voted so please respect what you did and do not be bullied like we were. Take your independence and run with it. It will only be then that the rest of Europe will realise that there is life outside this corrupt set up. Lead the way, bring the rest of us to a safer place

      Jona There are more of us coming to the same conclusion. They will force us into revolt and to quell the uprising they will send in the European Armed Forces in the name if humanitarianism and ‘protecting the civilians’. We will be under military law and ruled by those unelected evil megalomaniacs from Brussels. It will happen all over Western Europe and each country will fall in turn like a line of dominoes. Is it too late to stop it? 🇬🇧

    • @videowilliams

      True, but an independent Britain will be free to get fast & furious with the deportation of undesirables who hate the country till what few Muslims & would-be gangstas who remain decide to behave. Britain's done it before- you just have to wind back in history some. Queen Elizabeth the First ordered all the Blackamoors out at one point in her reign, way back in the early 1600s.
