Hi Greg.... this tutorial was extremely helpful. I basically just used the presets, now I see how I can use this plugin to fine tune to a much greater extent. Thanks for going into this in depth.
Thank you Greg - very clear and comprehensive look at Color Efex Pro - really helpful to me. Roger
There's not a lot of people sharing their expertise and experience with Nik Collection on UA-cam, this is very much appreciated!
Please do more Nik Collection videos, maybe Silver efex? :)
Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge Greg,
Stay Safe!
Cheers,
The way you explain things is really good. Thanks for creating quality content :) It's been a big help.
Thank you!
Outstanding Greg! Your explanation of the power and how to use this plugin was extremely helpful. If one decides to purchase it, It'll be another weapon in the creative arsenal to tackle photos.
Thank you, Jose!
It`s a really good explanaition about how Nik Color Efex can help in our editing work, thanks so much Greg!
Thanks, Joao!
Been using it forever. Amazed how close our "favorites" are.
Great tutorial. So glad DXO saved these filters - they're terrific.
Awesome you share this info. Would love to see your workflow using Silver Efex Pro
Thanks for the feedback, will try to do that.
Another very interesting video, I never appreciated a lot of the nuances within Nik and I now have a much better understanding. Thanks Greg!
Great tutorial Greg and I 100% agree with your message at the beginning! Photographers always need to strive to be better and improve. Do you think you will be doing more NIK based tutorials in the future? You're a great teacher and there is a lot to unpack within NIK.
Best tutorial on Nik Color Efex Pro I have seen. Better than DxO.
Thanks, Chuck!
Excellent! Learned a lot.
A very useful masterclass. Thanks a lot
Really interesting Greg, I love how you manage to convey the intricacies of the software you use so cogently. Shows how out of touch I am, I acquired the Nik Collection a while back when Google released it for free, and had assumed it was to remain legacy code. Do you know how much development and the sort of upgrades the new owners are doing/planning?
DxO has cleaned up some of the bugs and it does run a lot smoother/better. They just released Nik Collection 3 with some new features, like "Non-Destructive" editing, I'm using Nik 2.5 so I can't comment on the new features in Nik 3. I'll probably "upgrade" if/when they add features that interest me more, but for now I'm happy with Nik 2.5.
If you are looking to buy the DxO version, I'd wait for a sale to come up (they run sales often @ up to 50% off) I'll bet there will be a Black Friday sale, and maybe one before then.
Cheers,
Legendary video Greg. Been using Nik for years and still learnt something new on this. Top job
Thanks, Michael!
Very helpful Greg. You used several filters, but only one Nik tool. How would you then use a second Nik plugin on the same image? I’ve tried this and found that the second plugin negated the effects of the first. I must have been using an improper adjustment flow. What implementation of layers would work? Do they need to be smart objects? Thanks!
You can either filter on the same Smart Object (which is great if you aren’t using a Filter Mask to further target it), or wrap the result in another Smart Object to have more control with the next application you use to filter the image.
@@gregbenzphotography Thanks! You are one of the few UA-cam creators who actually answers my questions. Maybe that's why I've bought a couple of your courses and Lumenzia. Now I'm practising on an image with what I'm learning from you before I commit it to print. Cheers!
You seems very organized.
I would like to see your photo files. Quick video would be very helpful.
Well explained. 👌🏼
Thank you
Four years later Greg, do you still utilise this in the same fashion?
Yes. Nik changed the UI somewhat, but the functionality is the same.
Why is this tutorial so blurry?
I'm quite surprised you feel the need to use Nik Color Efex and that Lumenzia couldn't do this anyway
Lumenzia (and luminosity masks in general) is a tool for precise targeting via selection or mask. You need an adjustment first. Lumenzia creates a few (such as via “contrast” or “sharp”), but its main focus is to help you apply your adjustments more accurately.
I use them both together quite a lot, though not in this case.
