If there's going to be a Battleship that supports the Yamato in some US reboot of this series, IF it has to be a US class warship, then it has to be USS MISSOURI (BB-63). It's currently a museum ship in Pearl Harbor, HI, and is the last of the Iowa-Class battleships. It would be a perfect compatriot to Yamato!
I don't know the condition of the Musashi, but the Arizona is pretty much a crumble wreck at the bottom of Pearl Harbor. If you go by the original Yamato series, the main reason (I believe) that the UNSPACY used the Yamato was because she was pretty much whole even for a sunken ship. The Missouri is still afloat, and I feel it would be the best, most logical choice for a "sister ship" resurrection.
SSobotkaJr "the main reason (I believe) that the UNSPACY used the Yamato was because she was pretty much whole even for a sunken ship." Well this is what the scriptwriter and most people at the time when the original series was produced believed, that is, that the ship was practically whole when it sank (This was in 1974 and Yamato's final resting place was unknown, so they didn't know, pretty much anything about her condition when she sank). However a Japanese battleship was found in 1982 and it was confirmed by one of the battleship's designers, Shigeru Makino in 1984 that it was indeed Yamato they had found, the wreck lies 290 kilometres south east of Kyushu under 340 metres (1,120 ft) of water, in two main pieces; a bow section comprising the front two thirds of the ship, and a separate stern section. So after this discovery we now know that the ship was completely wrecked when it sank. Which is also why they changed the story from "restoring the original ship into a spaceship" to "using the original ship as a cover for the new one" in the 2011 live action movie and the new (26 episodes) remake called "Space Battleship Yamato 2199" produced in 2013. A feature film based on the new remake is planned for fall 2014, unfortunately I don't have any more information regarding that topic, also wall of text, sorry about it, but I hope anyone actually bothers to read this ;).
Old thread, but here's my two cents. Even when they did the dub in the 80's, the era of crap dubs, it was t=still the Yamato, just renamed as a spaceship. Why? The test audience attacked them when it was the Arizona.
All four of the Iowa-Class ships are afloat and museum ships. Missouri only has the most fame because shes the movie star. You can find USS Wisconsin [BB-64] at Norfolk, Virgina, USS New Jersey [BB-62] at New Jersey, and USS Iowa [BB-61] herself at Los Angeles. Going on the theme with "sunken" ships, Bismarck or any other sunken Battleship will do just as good Also yeah, I'm replying to your comment years ahead of when it was posted. How badass is this ship and crew? Their first mission was to obtain a device that would remove radiation from the Earth. Not only did they accomplish their primary mission: they ALSO defeated the attacking aliens. Then they came back to kick more extraterrestrial butt.
That would be trippy, if we really did have to fight aliens and the Bismark, the Ajax, the Yamato, and the Mussori, were retrofitted for space battle...
Up til now I had seen pictures of the Yamato, yet thought it a strange spaceship design. Having seen this, I now know how badass it is and want to know/see more.
Riku006 I know this comment is older but if you still want to see more the first season got a modern remake in 2012 called Space Battleship Yamato 2199. I'd highly recommend it as its better written and animated then the original 1974 show.
+_Ofenkartoffel_ I've completely given up on all live action versions of anime. ATLA was pure cancer DBZ was just plain shit SnK was just terrible SBY just ruined it I am not looking forward to the next live action
+Samuli Lundström Technically it's not the old Yamato. The battleship is used as cover to disguise the construction of the new spaceship, which explains why it's similar to the Japanese warship and also smaller.
the interesting thing is...as far as Im aware this was made before the wreck was found. because in reality yamato is sitting upside down with the bow snapped off about by the no. 1 turret (in the anime the thing's standing proud and upright). Sorry, warship nerd moment there. seriously though, even though Im not much for anime usually I LOVE the idea of a friggin battleship sailing across the galaxy just wrecking everything in its path
@@sawyerawr5783 - The original show was made before they knew the Yamato was in two pieces. Both the movie and the remake turn the wreckage into camouflage for the construction of the spaceship. It's also larger in the remake.
That is why i have love hate relationship with Star Wars ship design Almost no point defense, even the Sexy Venator class has that big upper side completely exposed from the top, only protected by 16 turbo laser placed on the BACK.
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO that would be cool. Yamato's more heavily armed but IOWA is thinner, slightly faster, and has a better turn rate. anyways, that would be epic
to salvage a WW2 ship and refit it for duties for space and more. is a feat of engineering and more. though the mighty E and the us carrier fleet would still skink this version of yamato.
Except it wouldn't, because modern AAA systems render aircraft carriers obsolete. You combine the withering AA armament on the Yamato with modern predictive FCS controls, and nothing larger than a gnat would be able to get within firing distance. Stand-off munitions would become less than useless as well, forcing aircraft to come within gun range, where they would be quickly and easily shot to pieces. Tack on modern radar FCS for the main battery, you'll be able to place those 40cm shells a full 42km downrange and still punch out a smiley face in the aircraft carrier's deck. What's even worse, is the fact that since you have a massive battery of CWIS cannons, basically every ship in the screening fleet becomes harmless due to their distinct lack of quality direct fire armaments. So no, my friend. Your "mighty E and the US carrier fleet" would be swept aside with the sheer brutality a modernized battleship would bring to bear, let alone the mightiest battleship ever built (which also happens to be a spaceship).
It may have broken into three pieces when it sank in real life, but this is a fantasy of sci-fi. They stated in both the original series and in the 2199 remake that they rebuilt the hulk and used it as a template to built the SBS Yamato from underneath -- thus using the rusting "hulk" as camoflage from the Gamelas bombardment. The SBS Yamato was built along the designs of space travel and sustaining itself in outer space. It's clearly got more durable armor, superstructure and firepower that is far greater than the original "wet" version of the named ship. The Enterprise and its support fleet wouldn't stand a chance at range. All the Yamato would have to do is fire one blast from the wave motion gun. One shot wiped out a continent-sized chunk of rock like it was nothing. What do you think a wet navy-style fleet is going to do?
Please redo this montage except replace the clips from season 1 with clips from season 1 of 2199. That would bring the awesome level to over 9000!!!!!!!
Bismark was basically taken apart by Rodney; most of the other British ships present achieved nothing. Yamato outclasses Rodney so much it isn't even funny. Bismark was basically an updated Baden class, and it says a lot about that design that it was viable in WW2, but fundamentally Bismark was *still* based on a WW1 era design, because that was the last experience the Germans had with battleship construction.
@Tuberuser187 Battleships rock! And they were still used in Korea, Bosnia, and Iraq! Only the invention of the smartbomb truly antiquated them.. The invention of the car didnt remove the need for horses or mules, there are some things best suited by older technology..
There's indeed SBB Arizona in the Original Series, Season 3 if my memory is correct. But why revenge? They're all Human Space Force against Alien Empire that spanned multiple Star Systems! If Human on single planet cannot united what chance do we have? If the 2199 remake is success, and they decide to remake the Comet Empire Arc, then we may get the chance to see it in action. Who know?
And to think that i got introduced to this god of an anime all because of a faulty bluray disk that showed the live action movie instead of titanic. Greatest accident ever. P.S. i have a subtitled copy of the movie btw. I also made a custom titanic parody disk cover, only difference is that jack and rose are kodai and mori and the titanic is the Yamato. Q saudade dessa série 😥😢 gostaria q voltasse a passar novamente na tv aí sim seria ótimo e legal 🙂☺️
Thank you Leiji Matsumoto for giving us four of the greatest rides in anime:Yamato,Arcadia ,Queen Emeraldas and the Galaxy Express 999!
R.I.P. passing at the ripe old age of 85 2-13-2023. Your legacy sails on forever.
@@leodouskyron5671 Finally sailing the Sea of Stars with Captain Harlock, Tochiro and Emeraldas.
Just came across this video by chance and I nearly wet my pants!
I'm already hooked and I haven't seen any of it yet!!
The Greatest Space Ship Ever. I Mean How Awesome Is it That they Take a Real Battleship And Strap a Rocket to it XD
JUST AMAZING XD
Just got done watching SBY Resurrection, holy FUCK THAT WAS AN AWESOME FILM
I find it ever so disappointing that the Asteroid Defense tactic didn't made an appearance in SBY 2199....I was looking forward for it...
It's on 2202.
Anakin Skyobiliviator It was so good in 2202 though :3
Yeah the asteroid defense tactic was great in 2202
How badass is this ship and crew?
Their first mission was to obtain a device that would remove radiation from the Earth. Not only did they accomplish their primary mission: they ALSO defeated the attacking aliens.
Then they came back to kick more extraterrestrial butt.
That would be trippy, if we really did have to fight aliens and the Bismark, the Ajax, the Yamato, and the Mussori, were retrofitted for space battle...
Is that a lack of Russian representation I see? :P
I haven't heard of Russian battle ships. Perhaps the K-19 is refurbished for space.
I though the russians went nuclear Sub.
No wait, the Russians had the Varjag. But the Chinese own it now
I was thinking the Keiv, a cold war era cruiser, but Eh' what ever floats your Space Battleship.
Most. Epic. Video. Ever. Totally made our project the most awesome, hands down.
How about space IJN not just space battleship yamato
so basically
space amagi
space jintsuu
space yamato
space izumo
etc.
Space battleship musashi
ok, got the goose bump. Love it!
robazz!!!
David Kilgour And it is way better than the Live Action movie.
That one had nothing to do with yamato.
+_Ofenkartoffel_ I still think it was good though in terms of sh*t going KABLOOIE!!!
They killed Kodai!
They fucked up the entire story!
+_Ofenkartoffel_ I've completely given up on all live action versions of anime.
ATLA was pure cancer
DBZ was just plain shit
SnK was just terrible
SBY just ruined it
I am not looking forward to the next live action
Only the Japanese would think that taking the wreck of a WWII battleship and strapping rockets on it would be a good idea.
Well... also the Kerbals.
+Samuli Lundström
Technically it's not the old Yamato.
American animators: There's not enough room to fit that many laser cannons!
Japanese animator: Hold my sake.
That is why i have love hate relationship with Star Wars ship design
Almost no point defense, even the Sexy Venator class has that big upper side completely exposed from the top, only protected by 16 turbo laser placed on the BACK.
what the heck big alienship
I still find it amazing that, even converted to a spaceship, Yamato is still buoyant enough to float in the ocean.
well it was originally a ship so it still has everything it needs to float.
I want one in World of Warships (and no, that one time with that April fools won't cut it)
well you can get it just won't have lazers.
and it'll not fly or have that frontal BFG, let's keep dreaming...
holy crap yessssssssssssssssss
imagine how op it would be
I would hack it and program it in. The five minutes it would take for my account to get blocked would be worth it.
OK, 1:27, Yamato takes that laser, and says, " Get that outta here! IDC!" as it returns fire XD
+Cody Hartig It's called the Wave Motion Gun. And you'd rather be behind it than in front of it....
FULL SPEED AHEAD WE GOING TO BREAK THROUGH THEIR DEFENCE LINE !
Rofl Tank heh.
Don't forget it broke into three pieces when it sank
Duncan N I c.
I miss watching this as a kid back in Japan with my grandparents
It was up there with Gundam
Please redo this montage except replace the clips from season 1 with clips from season 1 of 2199. That would bring the awesome level to over 9000!!!!!!!
I'm working on that right now, about halfway done
The first Hornet was sunk after Midway. The Yorktown was sunk in Midway. There was also an Essex-Class Carrier called Hornet, IIRC.
which version of the theme is this one? I can't find it anywhere
+Hyena “TnT” Blank Ask here. facebook.com/CosmoDNA/
it's the newest one from Resurrection
Bismark was basically taken apart by Rodney; most of the other British ships present achieved nothing. Yamato outclasses Rodney so much it isn't even funny. Bismark was basically an updated Baden class, and it says a lot about that design that it was viable in WW2, but fundamentally Bismark was *still* based on a WW1 era design, because that was the last experience the Germans had with battleship construction.
nice thats my favorite battle ship do you have a dvd of space yamato? yamato rocks
They're out there, but they're ludicrously expensive
@Tuberuser187 Battleships rock! And they were still used in Korea, Bosnia, and Iraq! Only the invention of the smartbomb truly antiquated them.. The invention of the car didnt remove the need for horses or mules, there are some things best suited by older technology..
Japanese star trek
Arann O'Reilly so was Martian Successor Nadessico.
But better...
closer to Japanese Battlestar Galactica, but with a better theme song
There's indeed SBB Arizona in the Original Series, Season 3 if my memory is correct.
But why revenge? They're all Human Space Force against Alien Empire that spanned multiple Star Systems! If Human on single planet cannot united what chance do we have?
If the 2199 remake is success, and they decide to remake the Comet Empire Arc, then we may get the chance to see it in action. Who know?
The movie is for honor of the yamato
WAVE MOTION CANNON FIRE !!!
Why didn't the enemy ever think about using Proton Torpedoes, battleships are god awful at defending against torpedoes
Different mechanics in space.
Darjeeling of St. Gloriana Didn't the interdimetional submarine use Torpedos?
+_Ofenkartoffel_ They fired them from another dimension
Yes, but many other ships used torpedos, too (The Desler-torpedo doesn't count).
+Darjeeling of St. Gloriana Or... aircraft carriers
Lookin at ya, Arrivaderci.
finally unblocked in the us, FUCK YEA
I know isn't it cool
Awesome dude! Thank you for this mix.
Japanese Star Trek.
@DAKOTA56777 i sank the Yamato in Heroes of the Pacific, and i completely agree, WWII battle are unique each in their own way and were/are something to behold
total shits given by the Yamato are 0.
Phaztom FIRE WAVE MOTION GUN!
despite ( in my opinion ) having many flaws, as a spaceship related anime it looks AMAZING
OMG. You don't show a video like this if it's not HD... Perhaps having the 'ORIGINAL' singer of the theme song would be appropriate too. ..
Thank you for attempting
to ruin a good clipshow, capt Buzzkill....
Also, this is the ORIGINAL singer, and the ORIGINAL song, from the Space battleship yamato: resurrection, movie.
Harry Livesley This is NOT the original singer of the Original series, yes.... The original singer of the original series is 功佐々木. And I'm not sorry to say that 功佐々木 blows the singers of this version right out water. What a shame a great theme song is reduced to a dry passionless rendition as in this video.
Future generations, you've realized our dream, creating all of this in some way, I'm sure of it.
May you reach the deepest parts of the universe, even for us!
