Even though I'm a lot younger than you Yamato was a huge part of my childhood too. I'm remembering building models of the ships when I was 7 or 8. Something about yamatos message of humans will always live on. The human spirit and it's indomitable power struck a young me in a way media never had. Such a great show
I saw the original Starblazers in Italy in the uncut version. Lucky me. Derek Wildstar prepare to use the wave motion gun. A saga like no other in its genre, unequalled. Nothing can compare not even the Captain Harlock series. I still get an incredible adrenaline rush, chills, goosebumps and tears. My blood pressure just skyrocketed through the roof! When Isao Sasaki sings this theme it's just WOW! The Rock Metal band did a fabulous job.

I wonder if the original halo devs were inspired by the wave motion gun and from there came MACs, well the mjolnir armors, do seem to give of a bit of anime mecha feel
@rasenshuriken7771 the wave motion gun used alien tech to make a giant space laser that could blow up almost anything. The same tech was used to make the starship Yamatos engine

I don’t really have a liking towards the 2220 Yamato. Yes, it’s simple and easy to look at. However, the look of the reboot Yamatos attempted to complicate the ship. It has many panel lines which I enjoy looking at. It makes it feel more sci fi to me. I prefer the reboot Yamatos.
The Yamato wreck in the 1974 series where the Space Battleship Yamato was built under was based on the general assumption in the 1970s that the warship sank intact. When the actual wreck was found in 1985, it was in a much more mangled shape than previously thought. In an April 2013 interview with Japanese online hobby shop Ami Ami, Bandai model developer Hirofumi Kishiyama said the emergence of the space battleship itself in 2199 was a plot device that needed to be resolved. Taking into account the 1985 discovery, he said the new Yamato "wreck" is simply camouflage for the warship being built underneath. Where the 1974 space battleship Yamato was conceptualized to be the same length as the original battleship at 263 meters, the spaceship in the new series was enlarged to 333m to address design discrepancies found in the first show.
