Guerrilla War is really cool. Yeah, you can easily credit feed it, but it's nice that you can also challenge yourself to credit limits as well. I have the arcade pcb of it as well that I sometimes swap into my Time Soldiers cabinet (it also used the rotart joysticks). The arcade version is pretty brutal in its difficulty. The fact that it only gives you 8 directions to shoot with the rotary sticks makes it feel like you never have just the right angle to hit your enemies without them hitting you first. Some games, like Time Soldiers, give you 12 positions, making it simpler to find a good shooting angle... then again, none of that has anything to do with the video.
Kickle Cubicle is great as well. This was a good list that my kids would also corroborate!

In terms of Super Mario Bros., while it is the game that set the standard for how the difficulty scale should be handled, it did have some difficult moments when talking about World 7-4 and World 8's courses. Thankfully, the Super Mario All-Stars revision of the game did implement a sound indicator to let players know if they took the correct routes in World 4-4 and World 7-4.

The easiest NES games I can remember playing off the top of my head were Marble Madness (WAY easier with the d-pad than the arcade’s trackball), Adventures in the Magic Kingdom (I beat this one on a game store’s demo machine back in the day lol), Monopoly (once you figured out how the AI worked it was pretty easy to manipulate), Wrecking Crew (still one of my favorites in the black box set; the fact that you can jump to any level at any time is a big plus in making it more manageable), Tetris (good pick), and DuckTales.
I’m also gonna side with the other commenters who’d put SMB3 over SMB1. SMB3’s item reserve feature, P-wings, tighter jump physics, and generous extra lives made it the much easier game to beat, IMO.

This is actually a really awesome and smart list. The NES is just notorious for some of the hardest video games ever made. I agree that Super Mario Bros is an easy game. In fact the vast majority of Mario games are quite easy. They're only hard if you're not familiar with video games in general or if you're not familiar with the genre of said Mario spin-off. But yeah there are some people out there who say that Super Mario Bros is hard but it really isn't.
The only Mario games I find hard are the lost levels and too many of the custom levels in Super Mario Maker 1 especially and yeah definitely some of them in Super Mario Maker 2 as well. Some of the Mario spin-offs are pretty hard but most of them not so much.
It's cool to see that Mega Man 6 is considered an easy NES game. I grew up in the '90s and loved playing SNES, N64, PS1, and Genesis growing up but I never actually played a Mega Man game until way later. First time was with Mega Man 1 which I downloaded to the Wii virtual console and that game is brutal. I later played some Mega Man games on Mega Man collection on 3DS and I started playing the First four games but found them all to be so difficult Although I do think I noticed it being a little morgue forgiving and generous Although I do think I noticed it being a little more forgiving in the later games but I never got around to playing Mega Man 5 and 6 on there. I actually haven't played my 2DS in years since I have a switch now but hey they added all six of the Mega Man games on the NES catalog so perhaps all finally get five and six a try

    • @Fortefyre
      @Fortefyre  5 місяців тому +1

5 is where it started going downhill for me, and you can tell they were grabbing for straws to anticipate the next gen era, 6 is....it's easy, and I like that, but it's also the lame duck to me. Even Capcom didn't want to release it in America, but Nintendo pushed them to.

@@Fortefyre I might have reacted to Mega Man the same way that you have if I had ever gotten around to playing it back when I was a kid in the '90s. The fact that even though there were so many Mega Man games back then and somehow I never played a single one of them until decades later probably has contributed to how well bad I am at the games When I'm actually somebody who's really good at video games but I'm not very good at the Mega Man games, and I guess how discouraged I can feel playing the older ones.

But SMB for the arcade is brutal. It starts with the level 3-2 slightly different than the one for home consoles. It gets slightly more difficult and it culminates on level 6-3. If you can conquer that level within 10 lives or less, I want to see it.

The only place I was able to play that version of SMB was at a lonely theater or in this bowling alley on Friday nights. Why Friday nights? It was because my parents liked to bowl there for 3 years. I remember the younger kids saying "oh great, it's that kid that plays forever" sarcastically 😁
I would usually start off my playing sessions with a few loyal supporters. Lose everybody by the time I get to world 5-1. And have everyone plus some new people by the time I get to world 8-1 thru 8-4. Then when you beat the game you get to start all over with a harder difficulty 😠
Needless to say when I reached that point I was so hungry and thirsty after an hour of playing I would let my quarter be taken over. It was funny to watch because many of the kids who were there had never seen the "end" screen only for there to be more of the same but with buzzy beetles. It was funny watching those kids armed with about 30 free Marios trying to play against those buzzy beetles. 😂 I doubt they even made it past the second stage.

I agree with you on everything but 1 entry. And maybe some honorable mentions for "fun" trumping "beatable"
Mario3 is a great game, that I beat with relatively few moments of "this is way to hard" and most all of those happen in the last 2 worlds. Mario is also great, but after world5 the timer becomes the biggest obstacle and that's not taking into account the Final Castle Maze and Bowser never being something I'd call "easy". Mario3 is also better looking and alternates players unlike the original.
I would have said Bubble Bobble and Snake Rattle and Roll are better options than Cobra Triangle and honestly I think Mega Man 4 or 5 was the "easiest" of the series. 4 having more pronounced Boss Weakness and completely optional "extras" that were not even something I realized I missed whereas 5 introduced Beat (also in 6) but it was not intuitive where all the letters are, or how to even snag a couple of them.

The Gameboy version much easier than the NES version but it is easy to pickup and play and I think the best player in the world was a pre teen or young adult. Getting all the different space shuttle rockets in the Gameboy version on the hardest setting was always pretty neat. Kirby's Adventure is a blast played the crap out of it with my son on the NES Classic. Kirby's Pinball just needed some kind of progress saver although it was a fun game it really depleted the replay value by not saving your progress after beating the stages a battery backup would have really enhanced that game. My son loves Mega Man 2 I will look for Mega man 6 if it is easier for younger kids thanks for the recommendation. As for Kirby's Adventure; Meta Knight and Nightmare phase 1 are surprisingly nasty for main Kirby content bosses. Especially when you compare the former to his Nightmare in Dream Land counterpart who's so easy in comparison. As for Nightmare phase 1, the window of time to defeat him before colliding with the ground is rather tight. It feels like they gave players more time to work with in Nightmare in Dream Land.

The music you heard, was due to the magic powers of Niko's 8-Bit stereo! He gives fresh life to these classic songs, and his channel can be found here! He's a peer and personal friend of mine, so I was able to pull a favor to make this video! www.youtube.com/@Nikos8BitStereo

Great list, with Rescue Rangers being the first game I thought of for this topic as well.
However, I can’t agree with Super Mario Bros on the list. While everyone should absolutely play it, the game is much more difficult than the two sequels.
SMB2 has four different characters with very different abilities that can make specific levels in the game much easier. It also has a bonus chance game at the end of each level that is easy to exploit for unlimited lives.
SMB3 is also fairly easy to earn free lives, plus it has a power-up that allows you to easily fly thru almost any level. The world map also makes it possible to skip levels altogether.
SMB1, on the other hand, is the most difficult to earn free lives, and the two characters are identical in ability. The jumping mechanic is also not nearly as refined.
I’d list SMB3 as the easiest of the NES Mario games, but I’m not sure any of them belong on this list.

I think I barely played that. King of the Beach is the one I enjoyed.

Tengen Tetris is the superior version. It has two player co-op, split screen competitive, and you can do co-op and split screen competitive with the computer! 😮
