    Cavalcade of Food-Hi Kevin and Ralph! This is a good video, indeed. I like to see and hear about older vintage things. You guys never cease to wow me, whether it's cooking or blendors. I feel like I've taken a walk back through yesteryear at the end of your videos-and I like it! I would like to see your collection of old coffee pots, electric percolators and the old stove top kind that would boil over if you didn't watch it and turn it down in time. LOL Happy Valentine's Day to you both, Ralph and Kevin! :-)

    I have a modern Oster Beehive blender with a blue base. It's a Chinese made copy of the original ones and has three speeds. I mostly use it for making ice cream frappes and frozen mudslides.
    I like vintage appliances and will try to buy them when I need something instead of buying brand new. For instance my Chinese made Sunbeam toaster was failing so instead of buying another cheap modern toaster I went to Ebay and found a beautiful almost new condition Sunbeam Radiant Control toaster. I believe it is a later model probably from the 80s or 90s just before they stopped making them. It works beautifully and I probably won't have to ever buy another one for the rest of my life. I also have a 1950s vintage Kenmore waffle iron that works great and is built like a tank. I also have a Maytag washing machine that is now 42 years old and still works perfectly.

      There's nothing like those old vintage machines. I hold on to them because they hark from simpler times when people were fundamentally honest and hard working, used to make them by hand so they were simple to repair and could be made to last for generations with just a little bit of TLC, just like relationships back in those days ❤️

    This is very cool. I have a vintage Osterizer blender of my own. According to the book, it's from 1970, it's the Imperial Cyclo-Trol Eight, heavy chrome base with a front plastic bezel, black fascia with an avocado strip where the buttons are and 3 red ones for pulse/off. The jug is plastic, but has the screw off base and white plastic lid. Bought it at an estate sale in the 90's.
    I don't use it all that often now but before I bought my vintage 1982 Cuisinart DLC 8 11 Cup food processor a decade ago, it got more use than it has since, however unfortunately, the lock on the lid to said processor broke and can't get new bowls to fit anymore but it still worked and came from Japan no less. I know the date due to it's printed on the little booklet it came with from the factory. I have it's latest iteration of that same model now in my kitchen and the new bowls don't fit the older models.
    I did briefly had an Omni Chef, came from dear friends and one day, I broke the grater disk trying to grate parm cheese when it was still too chilled and broke the shredder and no parts for those so it went bye bye and I not too long afterwards got the Cuisinart. I use it at least once a week to make pizza dough. :-)

    Hi, fabulous video, thanks. We live as you know in Palm Springs, and one of the streets here is Fred Waring Dr. We have a modern blender at our outdoor tiki bar. The other is a Sunbeam Mixmaster attachment that no longer works. I'm excited to see your salad dressing video when it's ready. I always make homemade, and currently using a batch of Clear French Dressing from the George Diamond Steak House chain from Chicago. There was one here in PS for a bit, but failed. The building was it's only hotel in the chain has been repurposed. The French Dressing is orange, not at all clear, and looks, and tastes like the orange Kraft bottled dressing without all the chemicals, it's very good. One of their other dressings was Diamond Cream, no known recipes have been found. I have a bunch of fave home made dressing such as Catalina, Poppy Seed, Charter House Blue Cheese is a fave from that chain. Thanks for all the time, you guys put into making videos.Tell Ralph we make his Salsa recipe a lot from backyard chili peppers I grow here. My husband John often sits on our Costco step stool chair in the kitchen to watch me cook, and asks questions about what I am doing...I more often than not say, " That's a good question Ralph." We love your videos.

    My parents have had the same oster brand blender (I believe to be an early 80's model) since before I was born. My whole childhood, we used that blender. I remember making milkshakes in it 20 years ago. Im 25 now. They still have that same blender lmao. It still works fine. I plan to offer them some money for it. Or maybe trade something. I collect antiques. I have older blenders. None of that means shit though, compared to the sentimental value of that blender that literally appears in some of my earliest memories.

    I had no idea blenders went back so far, but not surprised. I saw my first blender in a home in the mid 70s. A lot of appliances like that were not used in normal homes , but in upper middle class or rich homes. Most people could not afford them.
    Another example. Up until the 70s only knew one person with a dishwasher. They were rich.
    If you buy a little plastic dressing cup it will fit in the top hole of the plender. Drill a small hole in it. Perfect for making mayonnaise. Many people are making their own now to avoid cancer causing seed oils.

    After our Cuisinart bit the dust a few years ago, I borrowed a friend's Osterizer 16-speed from the 1970's for a while. Last year, I sprung for a vintage Osterizer Pulse-Matic 16 speed, and other than having to replace the gasket, it works perfectly! I refer to it as the Old Warrior, and I think it's from about 1972 (it's black and chrome with blue, black, and orange buttons, and 1000 watts). My mom had an Osterizer 10-speed Cycle Blend for years, and my brother has an Osterizer Marquis from 1968 that he'd bought for my mom to replace that. After my mom passed away in 2016, he took it with him and still uses it. Old Osterizer blenders are BEASTS; they don't make them like that anymore!

    I have an Osterizer 403 (the one with the big motor whose bushings can be actually oiled) on which the only missing thing is the speed plate (the silk screened "Deluxe Lo Hi" markings washed away when I cleaned it for the first time 😩) and it's by far the best blender I ever had, better than the previous plasticky blender my wife had from her first marriage back in the late 60s and better than the other vintage blenders I acquired afterwards, a Waring Blendor and a Mark 20 Vitamix of that same era that are beautiful but not nearly as nice to use. In the 10-15 years we've had it, after I replaced the drive and blade on it and oiled the motor when I first acquired it, my wife used that machine every day making shakes and I used it for her when she got sick right until the last few days of her life when she couldn't eat anymore 😢. This machine has seen it all and contrarily to the old plasticky one that died from trying to grind too much ice one day, that old one never skipped a beat doing the same and I still use it for salad dressings and the occasional soup.
    One piece of advice I would give new users is to avoid putting the metal base in the dishwasher, ours had always been grey so it didn't matter, because dishwasher soap attacks that metal and will turn it dull grey. You also want to keep the detergent from starving the oil in the blade bushing. The easiest way to clean it is to simply use the belnder with a LITTLE bit of dish soap and hot water 😉
    By the way, love the high ceiling of your kitchen, is that a vintage home as well? 🙂

    • @cavalcadeoffood
      @cavalcadeoffood  3 роки тому

      Hi JohnnyJim J! Excellent advice on washing the metal parts of the blender. The dishwasher is very hard on these parts and they are best washed by hand or hot water and soap in the blender. The kitchen studio is in an old commercial building, which is why it has the high ceiling. Thanks!

    I bought a new blender, but it will not blend anything unless it has 2 cups of liquid in it. My old blender could be used to make small batches of pesto sauce with huge handfuls of basil leaves, less than a cup of oil, some pecans and some garlic and parmasan cheese. Every time I use my new blender I get so angry because it is completely useless with less than 2 cups of liquid.

      Probably because the jar is too big and the blade has too many cutters (used to be 4 now it's 6 or more). The newer model are larger probably because people are bigger. Have you tried using a one cup mason jar instead?

    I have a Waring Aristocrat (beehive chrome and clover shaped glass) Blendor with low, medium, and high (only off and hi labeled) on the black plastic switch. It has a black rubber lid with a clear plastic removable measuring top. I’m curious if it is 1940s, 50s, or 60s. The glass is ribbed half way up to a swirl where there are no ribs the rest of the way to the top. Even the handle is glass. It’s pretty. I have a 1961 copy of The Blender Cookbook with a picture on the sleeve of a Waring Blendor like yours with the fully ribbed glass and black plastic handle and red piece on the corner of the handle.

    • @cavalcadeoffood
      @cavalcadeoffood  3 роки тому +3

      Hi Aiden! The HB model 8 is sometimes called a "Cookbook Blender" and it has a very small hole marked "oil" in the top next to the turning gear for the blade. Does this sound like yours? It really depends how much you use the blender. With average use, a couple of drops of light machine oil (use 3-in-1 oil or sewing machine oil) every six months should be enough. If you use you blender a lot, you may want to oil it more often, but two of three drops should be fine.

      Hi BrownSuga66! Hamilton Beach made these blenders for a number of years starting in the mid-70's, and over time were available in white, avocado, gold and almond. Given the color of yours, it is likely from the late70's or early 80's when almond was an on-trend color. If you look at the bottom of the blender, it should be imprinted with the wattage. Enjoy your blender!

    Just a small correction, sorry if that is irritating, but for those not familiar with these company names: I hear you constantly referring in several episodes to "Montgomery-WardS": to make it clear for everyone, there should be no "s" at the end: so, Montgomery Ward.

    • @cavalcadeoffood

      Hi Benoit! Thanks for this. From the late 1950's though the 1980's, the Montgomery Ward Company often used signage on it's buildings or in it's ads that simply said, "Wards." Often they would not use "Montgomery." The company was headquartered in Chicago, and it was very common among those of us in the Midwest US to just say "Wards," although grammatically it should be "Ward's." Funny how it was not unusual to here people say "KMart's" and "WalMarts." So while the name of the store was Montgomery Ward, my family called it Wards. Now I find myself saying Montgomery Wards, which combines the two, but it is not the correct name of the company. Thanks for pointing it out!
