I remember when I first played A Night at the Opera it freaked me out when it went from Death on Two Legs to Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon. I'd never heard anything like that before.
It's a pity to think of the millions and millions who only know Queen's greatest hits and how they're missing out on this song/this album. Night at the Opera is one of the world's greatest records and if you love Bohemian Rhapsody you HAVE to hear the Prophet's Song, Death on Two Legs, Good Company, etc. THEY'RE WALKING AROUND OUT THERE AND THEY'VE MISSED OUT!
Beth Jersey I thought he did a great job! Brian said in an interview that he thought Freddie was a bit vicious. He should have been.! The whole band got ripped off while execs driving Rolls Royces!!! Kind of wonder what Freddie was like when he lost his temper. I would just have stood there all dopey-eyed and taken it while getting lost in his eyes!!!
In one of his interviews, Freddie said he could be a real c@unt and that he'd a terrible temper and would smash up things which got quite expensive darling! God bless his heart! Of course I'd never met him but somehow I feel that I have thx to these documentary videos!
It amazes me how so many people still love Queen and Freddie. And Queen was my generation- I am two months older than Brian and to see younger people discovering Queen and Freddie and being as wound up over them as the rest of my generation, is awesome. Freddie was the oldest, born in 1946, then Brian (and me!) in 1947, Roger in 1949, and John in 1951. The REAL Baby Boomers! And my generation has musicians playing well in to their 70's, which previous generations never saw! Look at The Stones, in their middle 70's and still performing even if not touring. Darn you, Freddie-- your foolishness caused the world to be denied of you and Queen. And you would still have pranced across that stage today at 72 as only Freddie Mercury could have. I still love you, my Persian Beauty and you still take my breath away.
Been listening to Queen since I was just a toddler back in the early 90s since that's what my parents listened to along with AC/DC, Def Leppard, and so on. Sitting in my late twenties and I still love Queen. I finally got the opportunity to check out this entire album and I was simply blown away by it. Plus, Freddie's venom in this song is fantastically brutal, but for good reason. Sadly, he died somewhere around the time I was born, so I never had the chance to see him in person, but his legacy still lives on and will continue to live on through generations, I'm sure.
I'm 19 and I recently found Queen just by going back to the few songs of theirs I already knew and I eventually found nearly all of their discography. I can't believe how amazing this band was and even now still is. Freddie's voice is just incredible and the instrumental arrangements the rest of the guys came up with for every single song they ever did are amazing, too. Plus, for me, when I saw Freddie and learned more about who he was as a person, I really felt I had found someone I identified with. He was someone who was made fun of in school, as I have been. A lot of people thought he was weird or odd, and a lot of people have thought the same of me. Plus he had a huge passion for music, as do I. I can see so much of myself in him, which made me fall even more in love with Queen. Never again will there be a band as incredible, iconic, and legendary as Queen.
Jan Hunt ....You're so right! I could just see Freddie reinventing himself several times over and looking all the more delicious each time! Can you just see him with salt ' pepper hair that eventually goes all silver? RIP Freddie Mercury 😭
2 parts of this interview made me laugh. Roger: "...we just had a great album, and a hit with Killer Queen...and we were BROKE." Brian describing how vicious the song is and screwing up his face thinking "Freddie are you SURE about this...geez, well OK..."
Clive Bindley the situations weren't funny but their recounting them were funny (at least that's what I got). Sometimes you have to go with some wit and humor wronged. It's a coping mechanism that helps both the wronged and the person/ppl receiving the recounted story.
The first time I heard Death on Two Legs, it absolutely floored me with just how vicious the lyrics were, but I totally loved it. Since then, I've had encounters with a number of people who I would happily dedicate this song to, along with several appropriate obscene gestures just to drive the point home.
I am. A m a little. Angry What idiot thought that could make a Biography movie of his life l will not see the movie. There’s No. Way I t tells about his life v acurly
One of my all-time Queen songs! The sheer power and feelings that come out of this song are impossible to duplicate. The effect is just stunning. This is what rock is all about!
The band, *Heart* went through a similar situation. They also wrote a scathing song about their experience and it became a massive hit. The song? *BARRACUDA.*
just discovered this song a few months ago. can't stop listening to it. Can someone explain why I never heard it on the radio. never on a greatest hits album? This is the sound of Queen.
It was never a single. That’s how the biz worked, back then. If a song wasn’t released on a 45 RPM single, it almost never got played on the radio. But I remember being 15 years old and listening to the entire Night at the Opera album, on my headphones, over and over. Death On Two Legs was a favorite.
Freddie was angry and he was right ! Problem with the manager was inacceptable ! Hi Freddie ! Always the bigger the better in Music and everything ! Because of you now QUEEN is still alive and never forgotten. 4 genius : great Music and now 4 legends. And legends never die ! Congrats. We still love you darling ! Jan from France 🎼🎵🎶🖐🇬🇧🇨🇵🎶👌❣😿😽💋
I happen to love Death on Two Legs! Not vicious, Brian, sheesh. You guys got screwed big time so I don't blame Freddie one bit for putting his voice to what was done!
Definitely! I think people in authority who do BS like their manager did don't get called out enough. I understand, bc blowback/impact on image can seriously damage ppls job prospects. But if someone can get away with publicly shaming that behavior, then more power to them. Especially if they can do it with half the style Death on Two Legs does.
'Flick of the Wrist' from the previous album was a precursor to 'Death on two Legs', but I could be wrong. I always thought it the lyrics were about the same individual
Why do they talk about ‘ how vicious Freddie wanted it to be’ ?? They recorded the song with him. He’s dead now and they can take the so- called High Ground ? 😂 I love the song ! RIP Freddie and thanks for the great songs 🥰
I LOVE how Freddie mentioned NO NAME but the Sheffield brothers sued and won so they proved they were FROUGHT WITH DISEASE.....THE KING OF DISEASE...LOL!
The man in question is Norman Sheffield...the owner of Trident Records, which Queen had signed to early on. After ANATO was released, he sued the band for libel...and won. Rumors are that the settlement was 100,000 pounds...can't tell you what that was in US dollars at the time. The guy they hired to manage them after that...John Reid, ended up screwing them as well. All of this is in the book "Queen As It Began" which was written by two people very close to the band and was endorsed by Brian...it was published shortly after Freddie died. It's a good book if you can find it...really goes into detail...unlike the movie, which kind of "wandered around" a bit, IMO.
He did. He tried to sue them for defamation over it - which was a massive shoot-self-in-foot moment because then it basically confirmed the song was about him!
*ebil grin* I left the lyrics to this song for my first husband when I left him!!! Was nothing more than he deserved. I had a MUCH better life after I told him to kiss my ass goodbye!
"death on two legs" is a master piece not popular as it deserves, the words and music talks about what rock soul is in general terms fuck the commercial rock of lame guys with guitars pretending they`re rock musicians
This is my most favorite song from Queen. I, of course, love all songs from Queen, but together Let me entertein you are my favorites. The only part I don't like of thi song is the chorus at the beginning, I think it is not necessary.
Actually, it's uncanny how a lyric written in 1975, "You talk like a big business tycoon, you're just a hot air balloon", sums up Donald Trump better than any contemporary writer has managed.
I love how the seething anger of this song is then immediately replaced by the jaunty feel-good strains of"Lazing on a Sunday afternoon."
Flick Of The Wrist from a previous album was about their management too.
Yes. When I hear Death on Two Legs, I can't help but think of Lazing.
I remember when I first played A Night at the Opera it freaked me out when it went from Death on Two Legs to Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon. I'd never heard anything like that before.
Oh my gosh same!!

this song kicked so much butt. Still does.
Loved it
This is a side of Freddie I didn't expect in song, I mean, everybody has thier dark sides but whoa freddie! This guys got sass!
Beth Jersey I thought he did a great job! Brian said in an interview that he thought Freddie was a bit vicious. He should have been.! The whole band got ripped off while execs driving Rolls Royces!!! I love this song, not only is it vicious but it's a damn BOP
Freddie’s piano intro to that song is so ominous. Love it.
This has been one of my very favorite Queen songs since the album came out. I was 15 and played it when I was mad at my mom - which was always!
Oh it's a WON-derful song if you carried a lot of anger as a kid.
It amazes me how so many people still love Queen and Freddie. I see their music as timeless really. My dad would play their albums when I was quite young and now my son is a fan.
Jan Hunt ....You're so right! I could just see Freddie reinventing himself several times over and looking all the more delicious each time! Can you just see him with salt ' pepper hair that eventually goes all silver? RIP Freddie Mercury 😭
Indeed!

I can't see whats funny about either of those 2 statements. Perhaps you could explain? If you're not too busy laughing of course.
Clive Bindley the situations weren't funny but their recounting them were funny (at least that's what I got). Sometimes you have to go with some wit and humor wronged. It's a coping mechanism that helps both the wronged and the person/ppl receiving the recounted story.

Freddie places a spotlight on the crooks that rob and destroy music, its bold, its honest, it funny and its simply great
One of the most favorite songs of Queen!! Amazing!!
I love the song because you can really feel his emotion, that’s rare nowadays where you really feel the emotion
They should have put real stories like this in the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody, instead of the fictional ones.
ou, YEAH, well said
Which. Is one othhe reason I won’t see Bohemian Rappside they are not sticking we the real story
Karole Potanko it is a good movie, but it’s very fictional
I am. A m a little. Angry What idiot thought that could make a Biography movie of his life l will not see the movie. There’s No. Way I t tells about his life v acurly

In the top 5 Queen songs of all time...

In the top 5:death on two legs, you take my breath away, in the lap of the God's, melancholy blues, Bohemian Rapsody
@Rhys Khetani l adore it... It relaxes me soo much

This is an underrated great hard rock song with Freddie breathing fire while he sings it! Awexome
One of my all-time Queen songs! The sheer power and feelings that come out of this song are impossible to duplicate. The effect is just stunning. This is what rock is all about!
Oh Roggie, why so adorable?

That's why young and fair-weather fans must be given the entire albums - so they KNOW.
My radio station played it on the deep tracks a couple of months ago
I could literally listen to Brian May play guitar ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT...seriously.
Amazing riff
It has a 'cartoon villain' vibe to it.
originaluddite It’s supposed to have it
I remember buying and listening to this album in '75.
This is a great 1st track.
This song is AMAZING!!!! to any level
Gosh, not only do i love Brian's animal charity, or his guitar playing, or his smart brain, but his hair is awesome!
1:00 ;)
That Freddie. Such a musical genius!!!
One of me Queen faves, largely overlooked for some reason....
Absolutely love this song Dedicated to Norman Sheffield
THAT'S a FUCKING RIFF!
Brian May is wearing that shirt which went on to be famous in that Seinfeld "Puffy Shirt" episode....
it's too bad Fredie Mercury was not here to talk about it.
I swear blind Queen music and lyrics stimulates parts of the brain other artists just can't reach.

One of my favorite songs from this album.
It just ended! I was looking fwd to more insight following Brian's talk of new mgt. Nice to have the bit there was...
What a song! Feel-so-good-revenge-song.
i love the sci-fi horror movie intro, definitely want some behind the scenes into that
'Flick of the Wrist' from the previous album was a precursor to 'Death on two Legs', but I could be wrong. I always thought it the lyrics were about the same individual
You're right, DOTL is son of FOTW. About the same management.
Yup!
Both musically and thematically it seems so. I've sometimes listened to them, one after the other.
I love Flick of the Wrist
Why do they talk about ‘ how vicious Freddie wanted it to be’ ?? They recorded the song with him. He’s dead now and they can take the so- called High Ground ? 😂 I love the song ! RIP Freddie and thanks for the great songs 🥰
even when all songwriting credits went to the whole band later on the original writer still got their way, which is a beautiful thing imo.

I LOVE THE BEATLES. QUEEN AND THE BEATLES ARE THE BEST BANDS.

the beginning..... was the way my head felt after a brain injury,,, I felt my Brain had been scrubbed
@Billkal the prophets song is on the dvd as a bonus
Freddie & Queen had every right to utter the sound (w/lyrics) of their outcry 😊 cmon now they were under shark attack! 😀aha😄ha!
Flick of the wrist (Sheer Heart Attack album) brother to Death on Two Legs- March of the Black Queen (Queen 2)- sister to Bohemian Rhapsody

It was not "vicious"! Good for Freddie. One of my favorite songs!
I love the story. It's so real
This world's most bombastic F U song 👊👊
Good labor dispute song
And they decided to jump completely their first management situation in the movie, that could be explored to a great narrative.
I'd love a full release of the Earls Court gig
Yes...they show on u tube has one of the best setlists ever.
_Sheer Heart Attach_ is 11/10.

Wonder if "they" knew Death on Two Legs was a about them and how they screwed Queen over.
Undoubtedly they knew. Everyone did.
He did. He tried to sue them for defamation over it - which was a massive shoot-self-in-foot moment because then it basically confirmed the song was about him!
and published a book called “life on two legs” as well! 😂🤣😅

Great song to bawl out when you go hulk aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrhhhhh
My favorite Song of Queen ever! Beside a few others, but not the Radio Songs. Radio songs of Queen are, sorry to say that, boaring in the most cases.
