Of course we all know that Queen will never be the same, but I'm glad Roger and Brian have found a way to keep doing what they love, making music and making people happy.
I hope that people understand that John not being involved in the current Queen group has nothing to do with his dissatisfaction with Roger and Brian, or Brian and Roger's dissatisfaction with him. They actually wanted him in the group that toured and recorded with Paul Rodgers, He just didn't want to do it anymore, and again, it has nothing to do with his displeasure with the other Queen guys wanting to continue w/out Freddie. Anyone who says that John is the man with integrity is full of B.S., because his decision to not be involved had nothing to do with a fear that he would be looked like as an ass if he toured without Freddie. As Roger says in the Classic Rock albums DVD on "A Night At the Opera," John approves of what they are doing without him. He is just an extremely rare rock star like Neil Peart from Rush: a complete introvert who doesn't possess a Type A personality. He doesn't like being famous, and is uncomfortable, in the words of Roger Taylor, with "meeting new people." Being an introvert myself, I totally understand his perspective. He views his bass playing as being no different than being a car mechanic or a janitor. IT IS A JOB. Unfortunately, people expect their rock stars to be Type A guys, and most extroverts are incapable of understanding introverts, whereas introverts understand extroverts. As Carl Jung said, introverts are just as capable of happiness as extroverts. John is happy living his life alone with his family away from the music industry. Most people who retire from jobs don't find themselves doing their old profession as a hobby. They move on to different stuff. This guy has a masters in mechanical engineering. It's not like music is all he knows.
Absolute nonsense and far away from what the reality is...ask John himself if you can or try to get better informed about John's intention and how his relationship with Brian and Roger is now. Maybe you should ask his lawyers...!
I'm an introvert...and an engineer...myself so I always appreciated John and his wanting to be a musician and not an image. I respect his choice to retreat to his family. He left some great music and should be proud. The best things his fans could do for him is let him have his peace.
John will always hold a special spot in the hearts of Queen fans...........he just comes off as a great guy. The remaining members seemed to have mix feeling about his stance, they respect but seem not to completely understand his stance.
There's a gospel song that reminds me of John..."May the Work I've Done, Speak for Me!" Soft spoken, but always carried a powerful punch! Every member was integral to Queen and it's because of their unique and genuine personalities, gifts, and talents that Queen is so special to me❣️
This song make me look at John Deacon. Even though it's not mentioned in this clip, the brilliant, soaring bass lines in it made me want to be a bass player. I then found out I was a better guitarist than bass player (more a follower than a leader). Then I found out I was a better songwriter than guitarist, as well as a better manager and producer, and I made a heck of a living out of telling people who wanted know how to be a good live band to go look at Queen at Live Aid, and when you think you can do half of that, come back and talk to me. And my kids grew up in and loved music and are now in the industry too. Yet now, the bass line in it I appreciate more than ever because it's not backline- it IS fundamental to the song. John, on the very unlikely chance you ever read this- I owe you a beer and a huge thank you.
As well as John's fantastic musicianship (very underated), he also took over Queens finances when they fired the manager ikn the mid 70's. Brian May has commented that John's control of the finances was perfect.
@@kevcatnip7589 - True. John was portrayed practically as a manikin. Even Brian said that John would take so much and then cut them to ribbons with his sharp tongue. Quiet does not equate to docile or stupid.
@@susieq9801 Thats why I hated the film so much; they completely changed Deacon's personality as well as Freddie's (not a hint of his awesome humour and razor sharp wit and made him a whiny depressed diva) but also made Brian May look like he never was part of any of the arguments when it was Brian's ego that caused most of the arguments ; In many interviews, Brian himself has said that Freddie was the diplomat who often resolved the fights but the film showed it so differently;
@@Nina-oi1qk - They also neglected Deaky's early help as their sound tech and invention of the amp used by Brian to create Brian's and Queen's unique sound that helped make them famous. Deaky was quiet but charming, very smart and almost always laughing in photos. A great dancer too. :) He wrote over a dozen great songs, many of my favorites, and wrote even more with Freddie. "You're my Best Friend" was one of their earliest BIG hits and "Another one Bites the Dust" second only to Bohemian Rhapsody and it charted in every genre, rock, soul, disco, black, R&B, R&R. His bass lines were iconic, especially "Under Pressure". Freddie was made to look arrogant and wanting to go solo when in fact Roger and Brian did solo projects. I also can't envision Freddie cutting down the other members by saying things like "Deaky, nothing comes to mind". Freddie and Deaky shared similar personalities (although Freddie covered his with his stage persona) and musical tastes and Freddie often pushed Deacon to write and to get his songs on albums against some protests by Brian and Roger. The time line of events was absurd. The band and others said it was often Brian and Roger who fought. They both refused to play some of Deaky and Freddie's funky stuff because they didn't like it. Maybe a little jealousy. For that reason Deaky played guitar, bass and percussion on Cool Cat. Of course Freddie can't defend himself and Deaky likely never will.
This song, and the love of my life, are helping me remove my anxiety. I've been playing them almost 24 hours, even while I sleep and it has helped me a lot! Not only because of Freddie's soothing voice but also the music by the other guys, there's just something about the energy of the songs that calms me down. The songs are helping me with my childhood trauma of having narcissistic parents and uncaring siblings and friends.
4:33 - 4:50 ❤❤❤ I've always LOVED the vocal harmonies on their songs!!! Just hearing their voices together gives me the chills 😍😍😍 It's a big characteristic on many Queen's songs and it is AWESOME! 👌
God, I love this song! I simply adore Queen. If I had to rank my favorite songwriters from Queen from 1 to 4, it would be: 1. Freddie - My favorite! 2. John - He comes in a close 2nd. I just love Deacy's soulful taste & he brought such a unique quality to the Queen's records. 3. Brian & Roger - While their songs aren't my "favorites," I do still love them! I just feel that Freddie & John wrote the best melodies!
Not only one of my favorite Queen songs, maybe my favorite song of all time. 40+ years after first hearing it, it still puts me in a good mood. So good.
John, I don't know what you think of the movie, but it was a real re-intro to Queen for me. I've seen it 5 times and see something different every time. The writer beneath this comment talked about your being an introvert. I am also an introvert. I was as intrigued by the way you stepped your feet and moved as how dam* good your bass playing was. Enjoy your quiet life, John {and I suppose you're saying 'I don't need her permission to lead a quiet life!' :) } w/ many blessings to you and yours! Thank you for the years that you gave of your unique talent; you were the only one that "stuck", weren't you? A very special combination, you four.
I wish "39" written by Brian was made a single as it's one of my favourite Queen songs. It's so meaningful and that song still stands the test of time.
John seems to be a man of great integrity, and that might contribute to his absence from the current offering. I understand the nostalgic part of the show. But for John and many others, there is just no replacing Freddie Mercury. Nothing will ever approach that level, so let it rest. I get it.
Then again, I can well imagine decent Queen tribute bands drawing crowds long after the remaining members have all passed away. But now, while of course there's no replacing Mercury, being able to see two of the original members playing those songs is still more than worthwhile.
Great song, this shows the amazing versatility of Queen as a quartet. Amazing talents a for individuals brought together to create an amazingly synergistic and Sublime relationship that created great music for many many years.
If you can ready this John Deacon, we aprecciate you a lot! And we miss you on Queen...you was a very important part of all and all of your songs are just amazing! ❤

At last, a sensible comment .
Absolute nonsense and far away from what the reality is...ask John himself if you can or try to get better informed about John's intention and how his relationship with Brian and Roger is now. Maybe you should ask his lawyers...!
Yes John is not an untouchable Rockstar he's a musician a talented gifted person with the ability to play bass he has other things to do.
Beautifully said. Thank you for this comment.
Every member was integral to Queen and it's because of their unique and genuine personalities, gifts, and talents that Queen is so special to me❣️
That's the best post I've read on any subject for ages.. thank you..John Deacons retired and hope he's enjoying it.
THE BEST BASS PLAYER!! And he was such an amazing songwriter!!🙌🏾❤❤ love you Deaky❤🙌🏾🙌🏾👑
deaky is so UNDERRATED omg
Brian: "John you got anything?"
John: "Well yeah I got this... I don't know... might not be good, but we can try"
* drops a fucking masterpiece *
All 4 of them are so unique and lovely in their own. Immensely talented, also!
John wrote some amazing songs.
Spread your wings is my favourite
John Deacon is Queen's cool baby & best known secret😊
As well as John's fantastic musicianship (very underated), he also took over Queens finances when they fired the manager ikn the mid 70's. Brian May has commented that John's control of the finances was perfect.
Simon Sansome - interesting! I didn’t know that!!!
They didnt mention that in the film ,,they portrayed him as a chinless coward who just obeyed them
@@kevcatnip7589 - True. John was portrayed practically as a manikin. Even Brian said that John would take so much and then cut them to ribbons with his sharp tongue. Quiet does not equate to docile or stupid.
@@susieq9801 Thats why I hated the film so much; they completely changed Deacon's personality as well as Freddie's (not a hint of his awesome humour and razor sharp wit and made him a whiny depressed diva) but also made Brian May look like he never was part of any of the arguments when it was Brian's ego that caused most of the arguments ; In many interviews, Brian himself has said that Freddie was the diplomat who often resolved the fights but the film showed it so differently;
@@Nina-oi1qk - They also neglected Deaky's early help as their sound tech and invention of the amp used by Brian to create Brian's and Queen's unique sound that helped make them famous. Deaky was quiet but charming, very smart and almost always laughing in photos. A great dancer too. :)
He wrote over a dozen great songs, many of my favorites, and wrote even more with Freddie.
Excellent bassist.
One of Queens best IMO. Always puts me in a good place mentally.
That's the thing about John's songs. They have often a "feel-good" vibe. This song always makes me smile.
As a musician for about 38 years, 'My Best Friend' is one of the best 'crafted' songs I'm aware of. I absolutely love it.
I heard this song all the time when I was growing up.... never knew it was Queen....... Justifies my love even more for this awesome band.....
God, I love this song! I simply adore Queen. If I had to rank my favorite songwriters from Queen from 1 to 4, it would be:
So good.
I'm basically like John. Usually quiet, can get crazy sometimes, and doesn't like being the front guy.
Same!
I like to think I'm like Freddie (who doesn't) Im crazy, love to be the center of attention and always the frontman
I don't think Freddie liked being the center of attention either. He just knew that he had to be.
Same
@@mynanisdead7245 off stage Freddie was very shy but on stage he was bigger then life
John's bass lines are amazing.
John Deacon, Your bass playing is on! TY for your incredible gift you shared with the world!
I love Mr. Deaky. Such an amazing talent with a gentle soul💛
Thanks John... this is my fav Queen song
I wish "39" written by Brian was made a single as it's one of my favourite Queen songs. It's so meaningful and that song still stands the test of time.
Beautiful song one of my favourites from Queen
John seems to be a man of great integrity, and that might contribute to his absence from the current offering.
I understand the nostalgic part of the show. But for John and many others, there is just no replacing Freddie Mercury. Nothing will ever approach that level, so let it rest. I get it.
Then again, I can well imagine decent Queen tribute bands drawing crowds long after the remaining members have all passed away. But now, while of course there's no replacing Mercury, being able to see two of the original members playing those songs is still more than worthwhile.
all the queen members could play several instruments
i know in milan 1984 they turned his mic by mistake
Love John
After John learned to play the Keys, he wrote this song. Crazy!
Great song, this shows the amazing versatility of Queen as a quartet. Amazing talents a for individuals brought together to create an amazingly synergistic and Sublime relationship that created great music for many many years.
Don't worry Brian, '39 is probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
I love "39." It's one of my favorite Queen songs. I agree with Brian; it should have been a single. 5:45
I Just like this song so much.. the melody that deacon create is so relaxing and make me want to hear it again and again! thanks grandpa Deacky
He wrote it for his, "lovely lady wife"... What a lucky lady she is!
John deacon the most shyest, but most grooviest person.
Just shows you can be uber cool
I have loved this song for so long, thank you John for writing it!! This song is just perfect, IMO
Thank you John for giving me one of my childhood songs! I'm just sorry I didn't know you wrote it until this year. Much love...💜
Huge John D fan. Legendary player.
We love you John you wrote some great songs you will always be in my heart
Not a timeless classic but a classic that is Beyond timeless. Part of my Uni days, magical.
If you can ready this John Deacon, we aprecciate you a lot! And we miss you on Queen...you was a very important part of all and all of your songs are just amazing! ❤
god. i really appreciate how fucking difficult!!! it is to layer so many different voice tracks that all harmonize with each other...this song is so "simple" and cute, and YET they did some of the best and most beautiful harmonizing...
This is a beautiful song! Both, music and lyrics are full of passion and happiness. It reminds me my childhood, back in the early 90s.
Spread your wings is one of my favourites.
39 is an incredible song, it could have been as big as you're my best friend had it been a single and played on the radio
My favourite band since ‘75 and I saw them in their last live performance with Freddie at Knebworth park in august ‘86
What a great group of guys. Fabulous.
Estupenda canción y sus voces muy armoniosas. Muy hermosa wow. Me encanta. Es maravilloso escuchar esta música. Forever.
John Deaky Deacon we miss you and thank you for sharing your music..stay healthy, family with your family..
You're my best friend is one of my favorite Queen songs.
Just great songwriting all around.
Deaky was so very close to Freddie ! May be he was his best friend. I can understand his decision to retire from QUEEN and take care of his big family. Anyway John Deacon knew that QUEEN was over when Freddie was gone. He was very depressed and sad. I'm agree with you Sir Deacon. Without Freddie I can't stand earing other singer but Freddie. Because NOBODY can replace him. You understood. All my respects and best wishes for you. Friendly from France. A true fan of the real QUEEN. Sorry for my bad english
Come back, John! We all miss you and it really just doesn’t feel complete without you being there for interviews, making decisions along with May & Taylor. We can’t have Freddie back but we still can with you!
Pretty sure John does not like the current format with Adam Lambert. Roger has hinted at it in recent interviews.
Absolutely wonderful song!
Great song from a great writer....
Спасибо Queen за память о Фредди.
Здоровья вам и удачи.
Вы были семьёй.
Дорожили друг другом.
29 лет не с нами Фредди.
А весь мир слушает и любит вас. И Фредди.
Спасибо Вам!
I love these stories behind my favorite songs..
I do also and I keep looking for more like this. Love the back stories.
Cindy Dennis these stories just make me adore them more..
@@infinity-gn9xq ... I agree ! I have become more and more obsessed.

@@R.E._Peony me too 😭😭😭😭😭
@@R.E._Peony same! Just like Sail Away Sweet Sister
@@R.E._Peony I love 39,too.😢
At first I thought "huh, Queen doing a country song" and then I listened more and think that it's carried from the early 6o's folk music in the States. I think it's lovely. Would love to see these few that come up recorded. Surely, the movie gave you enough extra dough to bake a multi-faceted album of older tunes? :- )
