The very first time I showed my uncle this game, I handed him the controller after a brief demonstration of how to claim space. He just instantly drew a box around a Qix that was hanging close to an edge and trapped it with a 97% claim. It was annoying to watch.
Think I remember seeing this the other day on MAME while I was looking for the arcade port of Q-Bert. I didn't explore it that much then, but the name to me stood out. So, that's what that game is, huh? Interesting, and thank you for this.
Well, there appears to be a stream floating in my ears right now. Whoever designed the soundtrack really did an excellent job. In other news, I remember playing a game similar to this with my sister at one point. The main difference was that you were always safe when traversing the border of the area (until your shield ran out) but if any enemy touched your lane while you were "cutting" it, it would send a red shell after you. Colliding with enemies was also an instant kill. There were also some power-ups that let you stop time or gun down the boss by yourself. Right... I think I need to lie down for a while.
All their long plays use save states, it’s in the description of all their videos. They’re showing off all the possible levels before it loops for entertainment.
The buzzing sound used to scare me in a dentist sort of way. Like when the qix gets close it's like the drill is about to start digging in
This was a game my dad would play when we went to arcades in the early 80s. I remember thinking it was too hard

Your uncle must've been REALLY lucky to trap the qix like that

This is one of a handful of games made by Taito’s American branch. Zoo Keeper was another.
Geez, I was playing this game completely backward when it came out in the arcades. Always going for 90% + every match. Loved the sounds though!!
Dude's got skills.
"Stop splitting the Qix, you can only get a x9 multiplier!" "haha stix go brrr"
You will never be a woman
Great game!! The follow-up to QIX was very, very good.

You may be thinking of Volfied. I was watching other game videos and happened across it. It sounds similar to what you're describing.
@@MrShoward73 That does look similar indeed. Looks like it's time to do more research. Over and out.
I used to play this game in the arcade, and the one I played wouldn't have let you get away with half of the chances you made here!
This surely is modified/ using save states; in other words: This is a long play for nostalgia’s/entertainment’s sake, not a speedrun/Highscore record.
@@TomJakobWIt even says at the bottom of the description.
every time i see a video of qix i think " oh god when do the naked women show up? im in public"
Only real legends know 😭
Kaneko arcade games are like that.
Huh?
I mainly remember this game as the Art minigame in Bully.
I played this on Gameboy in the early 80s! It was my favorite game in those days.
To think this game is responsible for launching many games of its type, some known, some famous, some infamous. Qix started it all.
One such game was Zoid and its creator, years later, used the name for one of the characters of a show he was working on: Dr Zoidberg on Futurama.
@ do you know when that game was released?
@ and for what platform?
Surprised I didn't see any Qix Splits in here, unless I missed it
Gameplay starts here: 1:50
The final score in this gameplay is over one million even though the six digits are only visible.
Anxiety: The Game.
those qix look like a screensaver
Taito Legends is the reason i know about this game
What does the red shrinking bar mean (at the top)?
Obviously cheating. The Qix just avoids you. It's impossible to split the Qix ten times in a row like you did.
Sometimes ai can be dumb. And in qix, thats no exception

Huge risks….like he knew something. This game reminds me of fade to grey and vice versa.
Spiral deathtrap was my rival enemy 😂
shouldn't it technically show the score being over a million points? Or does it not calculate that high once you surpass it?
Jezball fever dream 😵💫
Hold up, how are you so successfully splitting the Qix so many times?
I'm guessing the disclaimer in the description is a clue...
@@mr_tw Oh, I didn't know SaveStates was a trainer. I thought it was some kind of game pause/resume utility.
@@mr_tw even so they do seem to be avoiding him. and it looks like the little horizontal moves are affecting the qix's movements
