I played this game when I was very young. I never understood how it worked or what you had to do. It was so unforgiving, one hit and it’ game-over. It’s cool to finally see a playthrough of this after all these years
The handlebars were great- the sound effects and music great - great idea for a video game, loved the dudes fighting was hilarious - I loved going on vacations and walking in an unfamiliar mall and finding a new arcade the smell, the sparkling lights and sounds. Hell Yea!!
The slight diagonal aspect always ruined me when I made it to the training course at the end of each level. I could never line up the ramps with the bike. Still loved the game though. Also love those great atari system 2 sounds they used on several of their games in the late 1980's.
Back in the olden days, i was so good at Paperboy. I had a hit rate of 90% to get all the papers into the mail boxes. But then, i got old. And so did you!
Good at getting papers right in the mailboxes but you're way too nice to your non-customers. Need to be more destructive in that regard. So easy to break some of those houses' windows and get some serious points, even on the Hard Way.
Not sure how many people coming to this channel know this, but the kid Atari referenced for the Paperboy sprite has a fairly popular UA-cam channel. His name is Scott Christian Sava, he’s an incredible artist and a very sweet man. He’s done art and illustrations for many, many video games and comics, and also produced the animated movie Animal Crackers.
has anyone notice that the music of the training grounds at the 4:40 mark sounded alot like the mega man 2 nes stage select theme which i guess you could say that mega man 2 nes game composer takashi tateishi ripped off the paper boy traning grounds theme am i right or am i wrong
Played this on the arcade classics on ps1 and played paperboy 2 on the snes could and still can't beat those games as those games are hard as hell and don't play around or hold your hand like games today do.
Lembro q aluguei isso quando criança. Fiquei frustradissimo ! Nao conseguia acertar uma, só perdia, quase quebrei o cartucho. Hoje, entendendo a proposta do jogo, acho q desfrutaria mais
Congratulations in beating paperboy on hard mode, I could just make it to Thursday, thanks for the tips I didn't know when the bonus stages you were supposed to hit the target to the left this is going to really change my game
Hint for new papers: In the beginning, don't be afraid if you lose a few subscribers. I tend to keep the subscribers close to 5 so it won't be too hard to get the Perfect Bonus. You'll clear the game easier.
Got this on PS1 in 98 and played my nephew who did Easy st..I now play my kids on this lock down and can do Midway..and 60% on hardway....the training course is hard to steer on PS1 controller....he seems to have better controls ? It's a hard game for sure and I bet 80 % never completed it???
@burteriksson An old pal of mine from school had a C64, arguably the PS of the 80s, better graphics than the Speccy but considerably harder to program, even the BASIC 10 Print "Boris Johnson's a berk" 20 Goto 10 didn't work!
2:55 "Am I great or what?" *Crashes into a wall*
*Oof*
LOL... came here to post the same thing! 🤣
....and then right after he crashes a swarm of bees sting him. For good measure.
Spoke too soon! 😂
He sure is.
I always felt this guy deserved a raise for the crap he put up with each day of the week.
@burteriksson They were waiting for him. They knew... 😂
Like for not using helmets
Even the Karen from 1984 was vicious
@@blackzach913 When you say Karen I'm assuming you mean the dogs as well since they chase him. 😂
@@pferreira1983 the lady in the driveway that tries to kill paper boy
The graphics, sound, and voice clips are quite impressive for 1985. And Atari was quite humorous with their arcade games back in the 80's.
And when you play it at full volume it's a sick old school hip hop beat
it's actually 1984 cause that's were the game release

Another jewel of a game from my childhood. Memories of thinking the amiga is the greatest computer of all times. Well at that time, it was...
We all did.
Greatest soundtrack to feature the cow bell.

This game was far too difficult for me when I was a young kid.
True it was hard. Jailbreak I found hard as a kid too
Bruh thats hard facts. When i was very young, i always thought the guy thats leaning up against the mailbox drinking was Bill from King of the hill.
This game is far too difficult period, even on the easiest setting it becomes nearly impossible by day 3
me in 2021: hey son. let me show you a cool game i used to pay in the '80s called "paperboy."
my son: what's a paperboy?
paperboy, is that like sackboy?
This is how i always imagined being a paperboy was like
Me too, and I was one!
@@ChristopherSobieniakdidja have to put up with all the stuff in this game?
@@koopa283 Yes. No obstacle courses, unless they were repaving the road every 5 years.
There sure are a lot of Addams family members living on this street.
Tell me about it
This game was brutally tough, and not in a good way. Nice to see someone who can play the game well though.
First time played that on Midway Arcade Treasures.
For me, the Commodore 64.
I played it on Midway Arcade Treasures too
Same here.
First time for me was the arcade, then NES, then the arcade port on PS1. lol
Man this brings back memories...such a simple and fun game!!!
Simple in concept? Yes. Simple in level of difficulty? HELL NO!!
Whoever created this game is a legend.
John Salwitz, Dave Ralston and Russel Dawe
Despite the 1984 copyright, this game was actually first released in April 1985.

This was hard asf in the arcade with those handlebars...if you made it past 1 level on easy street you felt like you'd done well.
This takes me back! Thanks mom for buying it for me my siblings!
God damn..... This brings back sooooo many memories.
Back in the olden days, i was so good at Paperboy. I had a hit rate of 90% to get all the papers into the mail boxes. But then, i got old. And so did you!
11:23 I had no idea, a big wheels could go that fast! xD
That only happens for one day on hard way. Not even on easy street or middle road
haha xD
This game made me cry when I was a child. It was hard as f🤬🤬k!!!!! 😩
Susan where's the car keys, that paperboy gonna be here any minute!
Lol

Paperboy is an brilliant 80's arcade game. 😀👍🎮
Wish I was able to play this again.. good games long gone

This was the first-ever arcade game I played; it was also one of the most difficult.
This neighborhood has a real problem with runaway lawnmowers and deadly RC cars.
Played this game a lot on Snes and Sega
Paperboy wasn't on the SNES..... unless you're talking about that crappy Mindscape-made Paperboy 2
@@solarflare9078 yes I'm talking about Paper boy 2
Solar Flare [Who likes uploading SSBU replays] oh c'mon, it's not that bad. Well actually, the Genesis version is superior.

This game needs an Arcade Archives port on Nintendo Switch.
Could not help but notice when on the last guy, you went into "Billy Mitchel" mode.
invincible a couple of times on the training course and a restart on Saturday too lol. Long play? Took nearly 3 mins to put credit in lol.
In one sense, this game may as well have been called Paperboy's Revenge.
Wow this looks so much better than the NES version i owned as a kid
It has Genesis quality graphics and music.

I grew up with the Genesis port. It was pretty darn addicting.
Come on, put this on the Switch
I guess the old woman with the rolling pin is only in the NES version.
I remember her showing up in either easy street or middle street.

I just want the paper, that part.

Anyone see the swarm of bees chasing him and thought back to the skateboard game "720"?
Each of those Sunday papers weigh 55 pounds. 55 pounds each!
WELL DONE!
i used to spend my paper route money to play paperboy!

I remember playing this in the Lego dimensions.
Anybody else think how weird it is for a bunch of bleachers being set up so people could wait for a kid on a bike tossing newspapers to arrive?
😍😍😍 love it

WB Games need to re-release it.

I played This game at arcade club
I had this on the Spectrum, never did clear more than about the first 5 levels.
@burteriksson Oh yeah, light blue monochrome, even by mid to late 80s standards it looked crap, the gameplay was good though.
