    Just a tip, but some inexpensive hose clamps would also have worked really nicely to clamp this awkward handle shape (often the clamps will want to slip off or roll).

    Beautiful fix job! I bought Gorilla Glue when it first came out years ago and of course, didn't read the instructions. I thought glue is glue, right? How hard can it be? Well, I was gluing a TV stand together because the joints were weak, but I didn't use any water and it didn't set up and even after a week it was still kind of gooey and tacky. I actually took the time and read the instructions...I had to use water. So I sprayed water on it and yes, it expanded and was I shocked the next day with all the over-spill! I can vouch for the fact that it *_NEVER_* came apart. Good stuff! Now I need to buy some to hold a shower head in place. This time I know better. :)

    I've never had much luck with gorilla glue, but I've never known about the water trick...nice tip.
    The tape on the other hand is the absolute BOMB! We use it at work to hold down the pneumatic tubes in the road on traffic counters. I have completely sworn off duct tape in favor of gorilla tape.

    Can you Spazoids relax for one f****** minute? First of all it's kind of a novelty item, secondly, I'm sure he put the edge on there for when he does actual delicate work and he seems like the kind of person who knows how far he can push a tool like that as a chopper. It's understandable that a young boy might go overboard and swing it at a tree. This video is merely showing the strength of Gorilla Glue anybody who would turn down an opportunity do a sponsored Gorilla Glue video is a fool.

    Gorilla Glue makes a fantastic line of products... when used for proper applications.
    Repairing a shovel handle with glue and tape is not a proper fix. More so, when that shovel is being used as an impact/cutting tool. There are many reasons cutting tools have a different style of handle (and connection between the handle and head) than a digging tool. That tool was never meant to be used in such a manner. Taking the connection rivets out and replacing the wooden shaft with a new one is the only way to properly repair the shovel -- that, and -- not using the tool improperly. Wranglerstar has many well done videos outlining the difference in handle styles/applications and how to replace them on his channel.
    I really do find Gorilla Glue useful, and have enjoyed Jon Peters Art and Home video's in the past.

    For such a small diameter, that tape is terrible. The backing is way too thick and the adhesive is also too thick. With a bit of warm sunshine, that tape is going slip. It's good for larger projects but still has the tendency to slip off and leave a horrid goop.

    • @brothyr
      @brothyr 8 років тому +1

      CONOR THEDIAZDESTROYER I said what I said because that's been my experience. The backer is too rigid and the adhesive is too gummy. I've had gorilla tape come off from cold-air vent tube. Left a mess of goop that was nearly impossible to remove.

      +Scott Reid Water raises the grain(opens the pores in the wood). Gorillia Glue expands and doing this extra step allows the glue to get just that much further into the wood for a stronger bond.

    • @AstronomyWales
      @AstronomyWales 7 років тому

      Jetro Visuals From what I understand it will work due to the moisture in the air, but I think it will miss out on the foaming action which allows it to force its way into every possible space making the bond stronger. Without the foaming action the bond won't be as strong as there will be unglued areas. I might be completely wrong though and I'm sure that if I am someone will correct me.

    Hi John. Great video as always :-)
    I know, that this video is sponsored by gorilla...
    but I don't see any reason to wrap the handle with a tape.
    Tape gives only visual change rather than more durability ..but nice try :-)

    • @GaryKlineCA
      @GaryKlineCA 9 років тому +1

      +Rudolf Zaris The shovel was probably being swung like an axe when the break first occurred. Since Jon wants to continue using it that way, the Gorilla tape will hopefully strengthen the handle to avoid another similar break.

    • @tmmtmm
      @tmmtmm 9 років тому +2

      +Gary Kline I very much doubt the tape will do anything to improve the strength of the handle. At best, it will prevent it flying apart (possibly dangerously) the next time it fails.
      The best solution is to just make a new handle.
