I screwed up changing my power steering fluid - Mercedes C63 AMG

- The W204 Mercedes C63 AMG has a filter inside the PAS fluid reservoir. The fluid should also be green in colour. After lots of heat cycles and years in the system, it turns a brown colour! Just don't make the same mistake that I did when changing haha.

I had a C63 W204 a few years back, thinking of getting another one, best car i owned.
Thanks for sharing that along with your mistakes, I am just about to change the PS fluid on my C63 tomorrow but I'm not changing the reservoir as the car has just 58k kilometers. I have a noisy steering and the wheel is hard to turn. Wish me luck!

Update to all interested if that fixed my issue - yes, it did. The old fluid was dark green/brown and in a bottle it looked nearly black. I had 1qt of new Pentosin fluid and it was just enough to flush the entire system with brand new fluid without any spills. Steering feels light as a feather now!

@@CarThoughtwhen i did this repair my shop towel fell while starting the car and got stuck under the belt and ripped the thermostat
For turning the wheel, do you run the engine or do you jack up the front, please?
No reason to replace the belt, eventually the power steering fluid would have evaporated from the serpentine belt and noise would have went away.
Are all Mercedes the same steering fluid? I have a C200 blue efficiency 2012 year
Hello, there is one more time you get this wining Noice. And that is when the ABC damper (accumulator) break. It is like a baloon inside that pops. The noice is around 1500/ 2000 rpm and stops after passing about 2500 rpm. You might also feel it a little in the steering wheel.
Change it and the car is quiet. Normally last absolut 100,000 kom or 60,000 miles.
Thanks for the comment! I don’t think my car is fitted with adaptive suspension though. Never seen an accumulator, think they’re just standard.
That was a lot of faffing about for such an easy job, just did mine a couple of days ago. I also spilled some on the belt, didn’t do anything other than start the car and drive it. It disappeared quite quickly.

those 'fiddly clamps' are meant to be one use. There is a tool that takes them off(this is the cheaper tool and saves lots of frustration), and you always put new ones on, or just use the screw type if you'd like.
That’s interesting, where is their one time use specified? Don’t think I’ve ever seen a garage replace them. Yes I mentioned the tool in the video I think, as well as you can see one of the worm clamps as a backup, but the clamping force on the existing was still extremely strong.
@@CarThought Not sure you'll find it specified, but it's common knowledge in garages the world over. I always replace with screw type as it allows for easier maintenance.
Ok, just didn’t see it specified in the work instructions. Usually it has ‘single use item’, ‘renew’ or ‘replace with new’. Anyhow, it’s not leaking which is the main thing I’m sure you’ll agree.
@@CarThought I've also read that they're single use but I've been to certified MB shops and even they don't replace them unless they've been unhooked way too many times to be reliable any longer. As you said, if it stays on and seals right -- that's all you need. I'd replace them if the place was hard to reach just for peace of mind.
@@CarThought I agree , I replaced my MB power steering reservoir just the other day and the return line hose had the same clamps as you ...I used a right angle pick tool to release them which was quite easy , and a pair of pincers to put them back on again.
They clamped very well , so in my opinion it is fine to re use them as long as you removed them carefully and did not damage them.
all you need to drain the fluid is from the return pipe of the reservoir then jack up the car & turning the steering wheel repeatedly both ways (without starting the engine) untill it drained out
Do you have a diagram of the serpentine belt? Mine shredded to pieces and I am trying to find a diagram online. 2009 W204 C63 AMG
