In my opinion, the medieval knight would've absolutely made their armor from titanium if they'd had it available at the time. Since you are doing real martial arts in this armor I think it's more than reasonable to make it a suit of safety equipment instead of reenactment. I was surprised to see how much of the suit was titanium, i imagine it was expensive!

    • @SamOfSaturn
      @SamOfSaturn 11 місяців тому +2

I can say that a lot of the characteristics of his armor are true to reality. A few of my location placements might be off or unspecific, but a lot of arm and leg protection was quite similar throughout all of Europe. Things like forearm protection rarely changed, with only really helmets, cuirasses, and occasionally pauldrons being set-in-stone location identifiers. Even still, sometimes Italians made Gothic (German) style armor. You really can't be sure, but I've tried to hit the mark on original territory as best as possible.
His more "composite" helmet with the rondels on the sides is a variation of a German bicoque helm of the mid-1400s. Helmets like it can be found in the manuscript "Lives of Saints Edmund and Fremund", and there is an extant bicoque helmet in the Deutsches Historisches Museum. The only thing strange about it is that it opens in the manner of a close helm rather than an armet, but a few depictions of it indicate that variations of it could've opened like that, as articulation is not specified in many of the paintings.
His cuirass looks English, and is fairly historical aside from the additional groin-plate, butt-plate, and toned backplate, there are many extant examples, but a few similar ones can be found in the manuscript "Guiron le Courtois", with the only difference being the plackart for articulation.
The cuisses are English as well, with "cased" greaves, and a good depiction of them can be found in the manuscript "Le pèlerinage de la vie humaine".
His pauldrons have some modern typology, especially on the sides with the extra curvature on the pauldrons. That's not to say they're completely inaccurate, a few examples of a very similar pattern (lame, pauldron, lame, lame) can also be found in Guiron le Courtois, mentioned earlier.
Many upper cannons, or rerebraces, were enclosed. His are not, which is more indicative of an earlier, late 1300s pattern. They also have some modern typology and extra "sleek" curvature on the side.
Couters could be Italian or English, they remained quite homogenous throughout Europe from 1400-1600.
The open vambraces are also indicative of a late 1300s design as with his rerebraces.
His arming doublet seems fine, design is shown throughout the 1400s as with the rest of his soft kit.
The chainmail are chainmail voiders, found throughout the 1400s to replace the larger and heavier hauberks.
The shield suspended on his armpit would be in the place of a suspended bouche shield, which are much larger and colorful, mostly used for tournaments but shown on foot in Guiron le Courtois.
His mitten gauntlets are more modern in their composition but have a basis in historical accuracy. Mitten gauntlets can be found in Lancelot du Lac, De Casibus, Tristan und Isolde, etc. They have fewer plates than his do.
If he were going in a more historical direction, I'd recommend kastenbrust. His helmet, gauntlets, and leg protection fit, but kastenbrust has historical armpit protection and a similar if not better protective cuirass. The faulds of a kastenbrust cuirass might get in the way, but versions are shown with shorter ones. They often have no tassets. Really wouldn't be too many big changes to make it almost 100% historically accurate, from what scholars could tell.

I only forge for myself., so I don't take orders. There are talented black smith's who can build suits like mine. It will take around a year with the waiting lists for most black smith's and mayby 20.000 to 35.000 €

Where did you get sized and buy all this armour? Did you make it yourself? I want the exact thing for Buhurt!
Only difference would be fully hardened steel helmet rather than titanium since that's the rule, and hardened steel hourglass gauntlets, and same thickness back as the front.
Edit: i just read you built it all yourself, amazing! Do you do commissions or have recommendations of smiths who would do this?
