    -------
In our practice centres there are many periods of silence, for example during walking meditation, eating meditation, listening to a dharma talk, total relaxation, but the biggest period of noble silence is in the evening.
A period of deep silence is observed starting from the end of the evening sitting meditation until after breakfast the next morning. We do not talk during this period, and we also try to stop our inner voice, our internal conversations in our mind. This is very healing.
We allow the silence and the calmness to penetrate our flesh and bones. We allow the energy of the Sangha and its mindfulness to penetrate our body and mind. We go back to our dormitories and tents slowly, aware of every step. We breathe deeply and enjoy the stillness and the freshness of the evening. We do not talk to the person walking by our side; she or he needs our support, too. We can stay alone outside with the trees and the stars for a while, then go inside to use the bathroom, to change and go to bed.
Lying on our back, we can practice Deep Relaxation until sleep comes. In the morning, we open our eyes and move mindfully and silently, taking time to breathe, to go to the bathroom and then proceeding to the meditation hall. We do not have to wait for anyone. When we see someone along the path, we just join our palms and bow, allowing him or her to enjoy the morning the way we do.
This is the practice we do every day, except on lazy nights and on festival days like the Full Moon Celebration. We need everyone to participate for the practice to be deep and joyful.
You can bring this practice home, or even to the place you work or study. Silence is very important, especially in our days, with so many people living in cities, overloaded by noise in many forms. Noble silence is one of the basic conditions for our well-being and peace.
We hope this video introduction supports you in your practice at home, or with your sangha.
    Enjoy your practice!

Thank you for this beautiful video presentation. I feel the Buddha has always been in me. I have always enjoyed hiking in the woods in solitude, just listening to the sounds of silence and feeling the energy of Mother Earth. When I explored Buddhism I knew it was what I have been looking for. I love silence and practice everyday outside on my lunch break at work

Beau chemin, beau cheminement, disponibilité, beauté et calme. Merci pour ce moment suspendu.
Mais que cela est difficile à retrouver au milieu de la ville, des affaires, des affairés, de l'indisponibilité, des compulsions...

Thank you for this! I remember the first time I was ever conscious of silence - it was in a small classroom, only four of us sitting there, no one speaking. It was in a soundproofed room in a music hall of the school. The silence was astounding...almost...loud. At first, it made me so nervous, but then, so, so relieved. Thank you so much for the path to practice!

I think the advice from the brother was to stop and explore what there is. The practice of silence gives you a chance to do so.
But please do not confuse it with a technique, something superficial. It's a practice, an art really.

Dear friend, thank you for your interest. I am the producer of this and the other video tutorials in this series. The videos are not structured as a step by step explanation of a specific mindfulness practice, but are meant to be a mindful experience in itself. And still, if you leave your expectation of what you want to hear or see behind, you will find many clues in this video on 'how to do it'. The monastic brother gives several suggestions: turn of your devices, don't talk to anybody from 9.30 p.m. until after breakfast the next morning. Stop also the chatter in your head. And come back to your breath, and be fully present for the simple day to day actions you do, like brushing your teeth. Be completely present for the flower, the child in the street, the cloud in the sky, that is all - no talking, no thinking, no chatter in your mind. Just breathe and open yourself to the wonders of life. The wonders show themselves more clearly and more beautifully through silence. That is how to do it. As our friend El Christian above writes: it is a practice. But it is very important to let go of your judgement and pre-conceptions (of any concepts as brother Minh Luong says in the video). Only then you will be able to experience the silence and discover the wonders, both in this video, and in life itself. And please don't think of levels, or of perfection. Just start small, make small steps and slowly you will start to notice a diference. I hope this is helpful for you. You can also read the book Silence, by Thich Nhat Hanh. Enjoy your practice!
