Eddard betrayed his honor because he wanted to save his daughters. He didn't betray his honor because he would get to keep his life. It was for his family
Yea, he said whatever he thought he needed to say so that his daughters wouldn't have to witness his execution. Him knowing Robb was on the way gave him hope that he could play along and hold out.
@@xRakanishu ? No, it wasn't to spare them having to 'witness his execution'. Ned is literally told that if he confesses he WON'T be executed (this is in fact the deal, which Cersei expects to happen). Varys tells him something bad will be done to Sansa if he doesn't confess.
Well, and we know that Cercei is not fool, she didn't want Ned's death, course then they loose the north at all. They had 3 Starks to change for Jamie and now one is dead, Arya is lost...
I mean at that point the north was on fire to get them & keeping ned alive was the best bargaining game they had. Giving joffrey power was the worst decision they ever made & it blows my mind that none of these fools saw it coming with all the intelligence & wisdom they all had...
You will notice all the councillors (bar one) are surprised by Joffrey's order. When he says "Bring me his head" Pycelle looks shocked, Varys runs over and Cersei is obviously trying to convince her son not to do it. Only one of the councillors seems unperturbed by Joffrey's choice. I've always thought that off screen a small council meeting happens where they decide, and the king agrees, for Eddard to be held prisoner and later take the black; but Littlefinger speaks to the king later and changes his mind.
@@ColCaffran That's a cool idea, but I'm not sure, because of one thing: Cersei could have stopped the execution and didn't. She's Queen Regent. All she had to do was order Ser Ilyn not to execute Ned and he would have been able to take the Black as planned. As Regent, she rules for Joffrey until he's a legal adult. She effectively _outranks_ him. Ned only dies because she either fumbled the ball horribly or was so unwilling to discipline Joffrey in any way that she just let him screw up all their plans with his moronic sadism (I don't think this is ever spelled out in the show, but it does give those scenes where Tyrion and Tywin chew Cersei out for not stopping the execution more bite - she could have stopped it with _one sentence,_ but didn't.) Did Littlefinger know that Cersei would fail to stop the execution? It seems like that would be a hell of a gamble. ...Though I guess it's possible that he'd take the damage that the Crown would suffer if Joffrey was seen giving a pointlessly cruel, stupid order in public for the hell of it and then being overruled by his mother as a consolation prize if the execution didn't go ahead.
@@zegdapitra5937 On the one hand, Cersei is Queen Regent and can overrule him when he does something stupid (since she's legally ruling for him and wields the power of the throne) so they do have a safeguard in place. On the other hand, Cersei is either too stupid, too ignorant of her legal power over Joffrey or just too unwilling to discipline him to actually be a safeguard. So they did see it coming and put in a failsafe, but their failsafe was utterly unfit for the task, so it went horribly wrong anyway.

Interesting irony... in episode 1, Ned executes a deserter for leaving the night's watch but truthfully warned them about the white walkers. At the moment, Ned judged the deserter as a liar and a coward. In episode 9, Ned is killed the same way but doesn't give a truthful account of what went on. He dies "dishonored" to save his family. The same blade used to execute ned was the blade that he used to execute the honest deserter. Moral of the story: human justice doesn't always reward the truth and rightfulness
@@BHMTH19B It wasn't fair anyway. No one has investigated where the two Guardians who were with the defector were .. why? because at the Wall they knew very well what was beyond the Wall. Wildlings wanted to attack and conquer the Castle black because they knew. and Craster? Jon saw.
Maester Aemon was telling him to stay. He was telling him that the Knight’s Watch vows are hard, and that every man has a day when he is tempted to break them. Maester Aemon was tempted to break his vows when his entire family was wiped out by Robert and Tywin, but he chose to stay to fulfill his vows.

I have to admit that killing off the main character at the beginning of the tale is a badass move by the author George R.R. Martin. I can remember reading Lord Edward Starks' execution was just as shocking in print. I had to read it a few times to truly grasp it. The show did a good job of portraying it. 50:30 that’s an interesting take. I think you’re right. Joffrey’s decision in that moment was clearly irrational and on a whim, which is correct considering both his tyrannical and childish nature, or as Tyrion called him, and I’m paraphrasing “we’ve never had a king as stupid as he is tyrannical”. His decision to kill Ned reminds of the little kid Numerius in Spartacus, ordering Spartacus to kill his friend. Like Joffrey, numerius also did it out of a power trip, trying to feel like a big man, instead of doing it as part of some grand strategy.

You guys are emotional as i was when i saw the show 9 or 10 past years ....I've been look at you on this video and same as you tears were running down on my cheeks... Steejo, as a good man, keep hugging your wife as you did.........always heart first...
Great show and loved your reaction. Ned's story is so well written, because although viewers will feel like his decisions were foolish, the correct answer was always violent and cruel. He knew that telling Cersei was not the wisest play, but he doesn't want children to be murdered by his choices, and I don't want to characterise such a noble motivation as stupid. Did Ned not realise that he could be endangered by doing this? Or did he resent the idea of taking actions that might result in killing innocent children just to save himself? It'd be one thing if Ned was portrayed as a simpleton who got outmanuvered by Cersei's superior intellect, but I think the writing made it very clear that Ned squandered his opportunities for noble reasons, and that we viewers only reveal ourselves to be not as good as he is when we say that he should have acted in a way that prioritised himself, without regard for who else gets hurt as a consequence. Such a well written masterpiece this season was.
I never noticed before how as soon as it became clear what was about to happen to Ned, in the background of the shot you can see Varys literally sprint over to Sansa to try shield her from what she was about to witness, he literally tries to physical get her away before she's grabbed by the Mountain grabs Sansa to make her watch. That is such a subtle but poignant moment. 47:45 - 47:48 for reference. Love Varys. He has a heart and only cares for the people of the realm
I understand your emotions at the killing of Ned. We all felt that way at the time. But don't give up on this show. I can tell from your emotional reactions that you will love it. This story was never about Ned. It's about the children he raised and about them surviving this world using Ned's honorable teachings. You will see the difference between them and the rest of the characters in this show. The journey all his children will go on during the course of this show is truly epic. You will love it but it will get worse before it gets better. Remember: The hotter is it outside, the better it feels when you get in the pool!

Ned chose love over honour the hardest thing for him to do ... put his kids before his lifetime of hard fought reputation and sacrifice ..and then he was free
Ned Stark is an important character in the story, both in the book as well as the series, but he is not the main one. You will see in time why. Remember Tywin Lannister's words about the importance of family. His family may be one of conspirers and usurpers, excepting one adorable halfman, but they also have their roles to play. In every place in Westeros,a s well as across the Narrow Sea, each main character has a story that will slowly unveil. With time you will realize who they all are and who are the ones that are just there to help them evolve and mature.
I think Shae is a low-key Sand-Snake. All the clues are present when you listen to her responses to Tyrion's game. It's clear who are mother and father really are: Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand. She's not low-born, she's not poor, and she avoids answering questions about her background and her accent.
Yeah I knew after the Brand window push that I needed to commit to this show like I've never done to any other. The stories are just so good I watch over and over
If your dog is licking and chewing his paw, till it has sores, then he has an allergy. Could be anything. Something in his food, shampoo, or even something sprayed on grass that he frequently walks on.
I love it. Keep doing it. Don't be to hard on yourself about not doing a proper outro. Many people who reacted to this episode just stopped recording and came back to it later or commented on it in the reaction to the next episode. That is totally fine. This is a show that can bring your emotions out like no other and that is what I love about it.
re: Ned's false confession and why he did it. It wasn't to save his own life or in hope of saving his life. He accepts his death, even asks Varys to kill him in the dungeon. He explicitly tells Varys he'd happily choose his honor over his life. What does Varys say? "But what of your daughter's life, my lord?" This is the last we hear from Ned prior to his confession. The Maester Aemon/Jon Snow convo also touches on this (it also touches on other things later on which I will not go into). "If the day should ever come when your lord father was forced to choose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other, what would he do?" Basically, Varys tells Ned that if he doesn't confess, Sansa will be harmed. Ned gives up his honor and does the false confession to prevent that, not to save his own life.

The two battles in this episode : the Battle of Green Fork in the Riverlands where the Lannister host defeats a small diversionary Stark force and the Battle of the Whispering Wood where Jaime gets ambushed by Robb Stark's main forces, both occupy a chapter each in the book. But they couldn't put it in the show as at this point they didn't have the budget to shoot a battle scene. Which is ironic in hindsight as GoT later became the most expensive TV show ever shot, they were practically movies towards the end. There's a beautiful description of Green Fork where Tywin and the Lannister elite dripping head to toe in their golden helms charged through the Stark lines, blinding the enemy as their armors glistened under the bright sun. And Jaime's heroics at Whispering Wood where he cut down a bunch of Robb's men before he was finally overpowered becomes a part of Westeros lore. But yeah if you're into grand battles, then you just gotta wait and see 🙂

Maester Aemon basically told Jon to make up his fucking mind and stick to it. If he wanted to go to Robb and break his oath, then do it. If he chose to honor his oath to the Watch, then do it. He used the example of how despite all that happened during Robert's Rebellion and the fall of House Targaryen, he himself chose to honor his oath and it was a difficult choice, just like Jon's choice will be. And how regardless of what he chose, he'd have regrets and he'd have to live with it.

You should let the end credits playout the score in this show is phenomenal
I love GOT-Reaction-Videos. Even you mostly know how reactors gonna react, it's always fun. 👍👍
You guys are emotional as i was when i saw the show 9 or 10 past years ....I've been look at you on this video and same as you tears were running down on my cheeks...
Steejo, as a good man, keep hugging your wife as you did.........always heart first...
No update yet :(
In the Book Tyrion actually had to fight in that battle. He was knocked out and the battle slipped because they did not have the budget for that.
He fought with a northman and got his face squished
@@hsgame4088 no his nose was cut in battle of the blacwater
Joffrey knew what he was going to do. He had all of the messenger ravins ready to fly immediately with the news. They were prepared ahead of time. 😢
"F*** This Show!!"
- Yeah, hold that thought :/
bruh waiting 12 days for episode 10
Don’t worry Suzie your going to love the end of season 1, trust me it’s epic.
"Passable," said Steejo. I think I almost fell off my chair laughing.
Did you know tagt ned was executed by stark' ancestral valyrian steel sword named ice which ia passed down for centuries
Ned, the honourable, yet died as a "traitor".
Honorable fool is what he was
Lampoon's christmas vacation is a classic fun movie for the holidays
There is one most powerful episode if u can watch that episode u can watch anything .
"F*** This Show¡?" hahahahaha, oh my poor children, and all that they still have to suffer until the end... XD
Someone commented that killing Ned was the true beginning of GOT. This scene was a catalyst of everything that came afterwards.
Dude...watching this cute couple (I think?) go from so innocent and happy, making light of the show at the beginning ...laughing making jokes etc....to heartbroken when episode 9 comes around (as we all were) was sort of sad lol.... :( it's like watching your puppy or kids grow up.... I'm truly sorry you had to see Ned get chopped....and I hope you keep watching because you're both great. Ty for the entertainment. Merry Christmas. 🎄👑🖖❤
Don't give up on the series yet .. the best is yet to come!
There is a reason this is probably the best series EVER made.
And ... try to binge .. because you'll be here for years otherwise!
Great reaction video Suzy Lu Youre def a huge The Game of Thrones fan
You’re right. Even CERSEI didn’t want that. It was Joffrey…
The story of Tyrion's wife is waaay worse than the show made it...I'm glad, because it was hard to get through...fuck Tywin...
Guys! I've been waiting for this episode since the last one! So happy you are finally here, yet so sad that you are finally here... What an episode this is.
As bad as you feel now, you will be on the other end jumping for joy too with the show
The 1x10 🤩🤩🤩🤩
You'll get angry more than once, but you'll also cheer more than once.
Ned's death was the first time I cried watching game of thornes
The thing about this show is that you will feel every motion to a higher degree than with any other show you’ve ever watched. You never know what’s coming, and that’s one of the great things about the show is the unpredictability. Buckle up!
love the reaction lets hope it's not 11 days to the next up load
Aemon didn't exactly tell him one way or the other but he did want him to stay and understand there would be hard choices like that in life.
I enjoy first time watchers, it's like reliving it again.
Oh man imagine the reactions in s3/4
: D.........
I barely ever cry but those even got me.
Next episode pleaseeeee Suzy and Steejo!
sitting here gritting my teeth when she is saying she's angry and we're in season 1........
Game of Thrones is sad and ruthless like life, that's why i like it, when it comes to that it's realistic.
I just finished watching ep 9 now , tears are coming out 😢😢😢.
He remembered the jest the King had shared in the crypts of Winterfell, as the Kings of Winter looked on with cold stone eyes. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔, Robert had said, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒕. How he had laughed. Yet he had gotten it wrong. 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔, Ned Stark thought, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅.
The white walkers animate and control the zombies (wights).
Susy: F..ck this show
Me: Yea Welcome to GOT......Ain't it great? Lol
I’ve seen this episode about 50 times and the way Varys runs over to Sansa makes me teary eyed 😥
He confessed to save his daughters.
Having read the books, I knew this was coming. But honestly, I don't know how anyone didn't once they cast Sean Bean. :) That man has died SO many times.
Everyone really loved Ned.... of all the characters he was the one that really had his head on his shoulders...
Don't ever forget this......the north remembers
I felt the same when I first watched this show, but we should've known. Sean Bean keels over in everything he does.
Sharpe. Ronin. National Treasure.
Suzy is so sweet and expressive. You 2 are great for reaction videos
The stories are just so good I watch over and over
The zombies you speak of are called Wights. The White Walkers are different again...they control the Wights.
If your dog is licking and chewing his paw, till it has sores, then he has an allergy. Could be anything. Something in his food, shampoo, or even something sprayed on grass that he frequently walks on.
Thats the sameeeee rage we all had at season 1
"If the day should ever come when your lord father was forced to choose between honor on the one hand and those he loves on the other, what would he do?"
Basically, Varys tells Ned that if he doesn't confess, Sansa will be harmed. Ned gives up his honor and does the false confession to prevent that, not to save his own life.
The roller coaster is just starting tho...next episode sooner please
please react to more game of thrones. im dying on sum new vids from u guys, ur reactions & feelings are so real. reminds me a bit of how i felt at times throughout the ENTIRE show. really been enjoying these. new sub btw 😅
Please don't tell them that this episode of this season will be really good it has a massive twist that you will never expect or a big death, it'll ruin the surprise
Episode 9 of season 3 is really good, can’t wait for the red wedding
Actually he WAS in Elf, Suzy you are right if you were referring to the moving with Will Ferrell.
Glad you're feeling better!
i really hope you didnt stop watching after this episode, there is so much more to explore!
Oh and lets hear your theories: what did Nedd whisper in the end?
But yeah if you're into grand battles, then you just gotta wait and see 🙂
47:46 Varys be like: "OH SHIT!"
Fan: I got a favorite character!
George RR Martin: Not anymore....😁
cersei doesnt want he dead because it will be big impact
So you want to punch a fucking wall? Well, then this is the perfect show for you.
Man in the books Tyrion actually killed a few soldiers as he was sent directly to the Frontline with the mountain
I totally expected Suzys reaction, to neds death, cos that was me, rage. Steejos was awesome...Im glad you are feeling better btw... Yes Suzy, this show will pull out every emotion and stomp it into the dirt and turn you into a quivering mess. Thats why we watch:) Excellent reaction again, thank you
Maester Aemon basically told Jon to make up his fucking mind and stick to it. And how regardless of
what he chose, he'd have regrets and he'd have to live with it.
