  • How to clean taxidermy deer mounts! This video is geared toward deer and deer-like animals, but these are good, basic methods for cleaning taxidermy mounts.
(Fluffy animals/furbearers require just a little more grooming and slightly different methods)
The whole mount can be cleaned with windex or a combination of all-purpose cleaner and windex.
I recommend a soft, dense brush. I DON’T recommend a wire brush, as the wire can leave streaks in the hair and disrupt the flow of air patterns.
Here is the link to my Amazon list for all the cleaning tools I recommend!

I've seen people use furniture polish too as it repels dust. We use no odor paint thinner on paper towel after blowing dust off. Go in direction of hair/feathers.
Imo don't vacuum as it pulls hair out. When using hair dryer use no heat setting. Heat can loosen glue.
I use windex or furniture polish for antlers. You can touch up nose/eyes with clear coat (latex) makes it shiny again. I just dab a smidge on middle of nose with tiny brush and spread lightly with finger.

My wife and I just wipe the mounts once a year. But I mentioned your video to my wife a few minutes ago. She responded with “I guess you’ll be cleaning them from now on.”

If you dust them often enough, you really don’t have to take them outside 😁

25 years ago after paying to have 10 deer mounted..
A deer hunt that was very special to me, Monongahela Forest West Virginia, track this Buck following a doe for 2 hours the Doe was in heat.
I brought that home and I actually put that deer head in the freezer, for 2 years before I decided I can do this myself.. I'm already artistic and handy.
    There was no UA-cam....
I did a turned head mount..
My taxidermist supplied me with everything, I bought the quick hide oil....
Now I'm looking at that deer and here's my ?
I never painted in the Eyelids..
I still have the pain should I use a glossy or a flat paint ?
I could just look it up on another channel but I'm asking you I enjoyed this quick video..
Also I'm a single, no woman to tell me what to do.
I have 10 mounts just sitting in the garage or hanging on the walls.
I will clean them as you just suggested and bringing them into my Family Room.
Where I also put my set of drums I bought in 2018..
My days of hunting may very well be over..
I have a memory for every Mount none of them are
Massive. But mountain dear, don't get that large..
I've always been a stalker, hunting miles on top of the
    Mountain.
It's kind of amazing when a deer sees a human for the first time..
Especially if you're standing because nothing in the woods stands except for a human..
If you're used to private property sitting at your feeder waiting for the deer that you've known season..
I recommend you go to Elkins West Virginia.
It's part of the 1 million acre Monongahela Park along the Chest River. Not many people know about it it's a great little town, you will actually work for your deer..
I could shoot the ones that hang in my backyard but what fun would that be..
My largest Buck was from Texas hunting golf ranch. Came out to a feeder, I don't even countdown as a hunt.
Even though it was the largest rack I have all I did was cut off the rack never had it mounted..
Also in Texas I hunted Axis Deer.
They were brought in many years ago now they're more than whitetail larger and tastier..
That dear I killed hunting, not in a stand...
Plus I think I'm afraid of heights which is why I've never been a tree hunter.😂

Great helpful video! Love your content. Vacuuming instead of blowing off ? Does this create any problems? Your thoughts please!

    • @ashleyeve
      @ashleyeve  Рік тому +3

Vacuuming is fine too! The only drawback is that you could be sucking up the hairs and disrupting the natural flow of the hair patterns. If you don’t mind taking longer to brush out any hair that got out of place, there really is no downside! Using a brush attachment would probably be even better

Hello Ashley! I'm a hunter from Spain and a love travel to your country to hunt your spices. A few years ago I was hunting in your country a mountain lion. Some time ago the skull began to turn yellow. You can give me some advice to whiten it. Thank you very much, not knowing how it gets to your channel but I love it.

Always be safe get a ladder always. Try to get someone to hold the ladder too.
One time you fall you could get a broke back or arm leg or head injury. You had the perfect opportunity to help others but failed badly in the process.
Try harder next time cuz I lost alot of very safe friends jumping off ladders.
    AGAIN BE SAFE.

    • @ashleyeve

Yes same methods! Some mounts that are that old need repairs too (around the eyes/lips/ears, cracking) but as far as cleaning, all the same 🙂
