SUPER RARE 4x4 TOYOTA SUNRADER TOUR | After Restoration
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 січ 2019
- We've finally made it to the final tour of Amelia, our 4x4 Toyota Sunrader. It took almost 9 months of work to get her to this point but we made it! It's been quite the process and we touch on some of it here but this is really just to show the final product. If you're interested in seeing the process you can check out our detailed write ups on our blog or go back and watch our build series here on UA-cam. We're super proud of the final result and we hope you all enjoy it. Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately we lost a LOT of video we shot at the end of the build due to an SD card that needed to be reformatted. Luckily we took a ton of photos through the process so we'll be walking you guys through the rest of the build with photos to accompany our commentary. It's not how we envisioned finishing this series but in the end we get to be a little more detailed this way so it's not all bad.
The entire Sunrader build in blog form:

People always wanna know cost but that's the main thing most leave out.😳
prolly around 20k
@@calisthenicsnoob9990 tru tru i say 15ish
@@calisthenicsnoob9990 not for these. They are super rare and in demand. Im guessing they have $40k+ invested
@@04dram04 Depends on location. There is one on craigslist for 11.5k with 85k miles. It's not 4x4 and it needs a bit of updating to the outside (Fading paint). So I assume they paid around 12.5k for the camper and around 7.5K for the modifications. So around 20k.
@@04dram04 in the condition when they started +$10,000
No indoor shower I could deal with as I would have water and probably some sort of outdoor facility, but a pooper, I would have to have, lol. I'm old. What a lovely build, super bright and cheery and a 4X4 nonetheless. Super rig. Thanks for sharing Amelia.
yea agreed. to each their own, but no way I'm not having a for sure poop option inside for funky weather / busy places
I've got my eye on a couple of sun raiders and hopefully after watching your journey I'm going to be having my own journey with my woman building our sun raider out
These living spaces on wheels are all pieces of art. Amelia here is no exception. Beautiful piece.
WOW! Nice job. You did make my old lady bladder shudder when mention taking out the bathroom:)
lml My thoughts exactly. She'll miss that bathroom in a few years when she's older like us.
The carpet sequence made me laugh xD
Love it! We have a 22yo Toyota 4Runner and she runs better than my C-class sedan! What a fantastic reno/built, congratulations and thanks for sharing!
It’s lovely but I think one of the main benefits of having a camper is a bathroom.
I whole heartily agree although she did iterate a to each his own disclosure. I can make do if I had to but I'd rather be comfortable and for me, I would have kept and improved on it.
Don't worry Be happy absolutely people can do as they wish. It’s still very nice. I just feel a small bathroom is really a big part of the luxury item.
Cherie Shit in the woods, third world squat.
Till someone takes a shit and you smell it all day
@@cherie3283 you can always buy a pop up bathroom tent for outdoors and then a small toilet bucket. Trust me, a bathroom in a small van SMELLS
When you get to be my age , you're going to wish you had the bathroom back. I'm saving up for an RV but it must have a wetbath or full bathroom and shower since I'm going solo.
I wish they would bring back those Toyota campers. The small, low design is easier to get in and out if, and you can park it anywhere. I like how use solarized everything and used lithium batteries.
Killer job on a really rare niche camper. May you have many miles and many smiles. You’re off to a great start
Personally I would of kept the bathroom
Would have.
@Benjamin BurkhardtFlush with anti-freeze - not a big deal to carry a couple of jugs of anti-freeze.
@Benjamin BurkhardtHi, most people will carry jugs of drinking water inside - as long as the inside is warm, no freezing.
@Benjamin Burkhardt??? You're not understanding my comment. The anti-freeze would only be used to flush a toilet.
Would HAVE.
IF IT WAS NO BATHROOM FROM BEGINING I WOULD MAKE ONE BRO.
I was out in my old Toyota Dolphin and had to answer the call of nature in the middle of the night. It was pouring rain/sleet. The wind was blowing and it was cold. I used the indoor toilet, got back into bed and felt like a sultan. No can? No-can-do.
They are probably cool with going in a bottle or bucket!
Thank you so Much for not making this code 40+ mins And choking us with unnecessary details. It was perfect. Beautiful van!!!
Just wanted to say good job to you guys. With This channel you can see the dedication and time that is put into your videos and along with your IG page it’s always unique and creative the way you guys do things. Watching this channel is just great and positive and I wish you both the best of luck in all your adventures both on and off camera, and don’t ever stop doing these things you love.
This melted my heart. Thank you so much, we try to do the best we can in all our endeavors. It feels so good to have this to look back on our whole experience because it never felt like we slowed down enough to appreciate our work. I appreciate the kind words. There is plenty more where this came from!
Beautiful job! You put so much hard work into this project. I know you will enjoy the Sunrader for many years. Thanks for showing us the process and final outcome.
Thank you thank you! We are so happy with her!
carpet, carpet, and more carpet...welcome to the 70's and 80's...Well done guys!!! super sweet!!!!
My grandfather had one. I believe his was a 87. He and i would go upstate Pa hunting with it. Loved it. We went on so many hunting and fishing trips in that thing.
"Carpet on these things!" "Mice spirits"
I was not expecting that ending, but I get it. I finished my FJ40 rebuild after years of blood/sweat/tears only to sell it 6 months later. Def the cleanest rebuild I’ve seen of this platform. Good luck with the next adventure!
Yeah. It's never easy too! But it only means that there is something else new and exciting on the horizon!
I like seeing these 30 yr old 4x4 campers still working. An outstanding video 3yrs later & with over 1k notes on it. I was a bit down at the end when you sold it. I was going to look forward to seeing what you got right & wrong as you used it. I look forward watching your other videos soon.
You guys did an amazing job on that rig. I do know the rest of the story and feel for you but the experience and education you received during the process is priceless. Everything happens for a reason. Happy camping
Omg the mouse skeletons had me shivering so much... I will forever be scared to by an old camper now.
Stuarts84 - are you vegan or something? :D
@Gabrielle Tillman - Why do people keep carcasses in their fridge, then? Once, when I was house-sitting, a robin flew into the window and died. It was days till the trash would be picked up, so I triple-bagged the body and put her/him in the fridge (the garbage was stored inside so bears wouldn't get it). I put little robin in the trash 3 days later. Some of my pals thought that was weird but it wasn't my yard to dig up....anyway, most people store dead, dismembered birds in their fridges all the time and call them "chicken". Get it?
I just decided not to buy an old camper!!!!!!!!!🐁🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Capet is insulating and cuts noise down....crazy to get rid of the bathroom.
Yeah, and I wonder if any of the remodeling and reconfiguration messed with the weight? Th'at's a huge part of it.
Carpet also is essential for condensation. My 1995 van only has headliner and, when it's raining outside and the propane furnace is on, water literally drips inside some of the cabinets :(
PS, I'm installing carpet in those cabinets this summer :)
I like the idea of no bathroom. Less germy & less odors 🙌 I've always wanted a bathroom to be "outside" of my home. No mold, no steam, less germs, less smells, no toliet water, no piss no shit. The idea of bathrooms near my daily living quarters always made me feel dirty, so not having a bathroom inside my vehicle sounds just fine to me! ❤❤❤
I followed your build up until a few months ago. As I’ve been busy renovating a fifth wheel and whipping a wild 4 acres into shape. And now...the reveal! Wowzer! Great presentation of steps along the way and stunning workmanship. Good job y’all.
Yes, it’s home base. You can see my traveling C class on ‘Twomeander ‘ video number 8
Dill Rogerz S2 E210 on Twomeander was done 4 months ago
What a lovely build, it’s nice to see people remodel these vans
It feels nice to give something a new lease on life
You want carpet back all over because this quiet cars passing noise or people outside talking. It’s give a noise cancellation dead sound. A secure sound . Plain wall reflex sound bouncing around and car passing feels inside the room. Lot of people sacrifice look for sound deading material. My van I kept the conversion cloth wall and roof and thick carpet. And added more cloth covering on my new wall too.
You guys kick ass !!! It’s a beautiful transformation.
I recently bought a 1980 Toyota Mini-Cruiser, and taking out the bathroom made it go from feeling like a cramped closet to an open and bright living space! I love your design and I'm going to use some of your pointers on my rebuild! These vehicles are for adventure, and the convenience of an indoor bathroom over the countless other options is absolutely unnecessary. Love this thing, thank you guys so much for the videos, you're saving my life on my rebuild!
Lovely rebuild, but no bathroom is a deal breaker. I personally like to have a place to do my business and a shower is essential.
Yea... it ruined the whole thing
I totally need a private space to do my business
Should of just done this in a sprinter van.
Hipsters don't Poo.. It's too organic too.
What happens when it's monthly time? No loo is a deal breaker for me.
It was perfect the way it was!! I loved it it, just needed to be refreshed and cleaned. arghh, i mean you's did a good job finish wise on the build. but i liked the origanal design better. so cosey and comfitable looking. Plus in all honesty more functional in my opinion.
Hey guys! Congratulations for Emilia, she is absolutely stunning!
Thank you thank you thank you! We are so proud of her!
Lol I just randomly stumbled upon this, that carpet clips, hilarious
Ahhh just beautiful. Makes my heart happy to watch. The finished product is truly amazing, and you FINISHED IT! I wish I could say that about mine, but I still learned a lot and had a good bond with it. You can tell that you had a special bond with amelia and I cant wait to see the next video explaining more behind your story!
Thank you so much! We really appreciate that! It was hard to say goodbye to her but it felt like we had an entire lifetime worth of experiences with her already when we passed her along to her new family. I look forward to that video coming out so it can all be made known because I still get multiple emails a week asking what happened ;P
@@BoundForNowhere of course! That is funny, everyone is so interested! I have a feeling your next video will help a lot of people decide if a sunrader is truly the right vehicle for them. Cheers!
Once bathroom was gone, that’s it on to next video.
Absolutely
Yep, me too.
me three
Probably on to the next vehicle for them!!
Wow, this is the most BEAUTIFUL rebuild I have EVER seen! And I watch a LOT of videos on UA-cam! Bravo for building all the wood components by hand! Very, very, nice! So sorry to hear you sold Amelia. But whoever got her, got an awesome rig! 😊
Thank you so so much!
She is AWESOME!!! You guys rock and did an outstanding job with the Sunrader!!!
Thank you! We are so proud of the outcome!
Absolute beast. Going to the bathroom in such a small space and carrying it around is gross. We're all just stardust anyways. Keep on keepin on!
This is awesome,but surely,no bathroom?
bucket and trashbag with cat litter works fine
@@_JonathanLo nasty
The carpet bit had me cracking up so bad 😂
Going to buy an old RV soon...hopefully one without excessive carpet!
Это классный кемпер!! Удачи в путешествиях. И новых приключений. Russia
I think you will bring back that bathroom or a emergency bucket. Lol
These "no bathroom" comments are driving me nuts.
Me too! ;)
Sad theres no bathroom
Like... shower yes I understand you might one.... but toilet? There’s toilets everywhere.. and if not, crouching behind a tree is not that hard
You can also just use a hose for a shower
I came for the adventure and stayed for the freckles. Lovely camper! :)
I loved how she showed off the carpet on everything, after the 4th one I was like, what??🤣🤣
This is the most beautiful sunrader to ever exist. I want to find one and make it my own cause I can't afford a Earth Roamer yet. ❤Much respect
I bought a 1987 ford class c rv. I plan to renovate it and now im terrified what I'll fine. Those mouse skeletons are disturbing on a whole new level
eva medina ha ha ha 😂😂😂😂😂
Just hope they don't come down with Hansa virus after all those dead mice. I hope they disinfected the entire camper and themselves after they stripped it down.
eva medina old mold= dementia
You both are very talented!🌟 Would you ever want to do this for a living?
Thank you so much! I'm not sure, it is pretty stressful! ;)
Hahaha that pink coozie in the drawer was epic!!!
Hello from Puerto Rico and I liked the video, so continue the adventures! I'm new to your UA-cam page
omg you're little carpet skit was hilarious
They sold it when they realize how they messed up removing the bathroom😂😂
Dam really after all that sigh 😔
Hahaha
Amazing! Best rebuild of a small unit I've seen in a long time! If you've been without a toilet for this long.... why NOT create more space! Nothing lost but gained a beautiful interior while keeping the outside classic. Love it! Toyota's are undeniably indestructible.
ugghhhh. Did I say indestructable???? So sorry! I've been there and have been devastated. You took it better than I did. lol
The only thing I would change on this beautiful renovation are the blue and white curtains and put instead golden brown curtains to match the seats and cork floor and I would get rid of that scary bluish rug and put a rug that matched the golden brown curtains. I'm Italian and we like everything to match. But, overall you did a great job to Amelia. Cheers.
1:01 this radiates heavy Jenna Marbles energy

???
I thought I was the only one that saw it!😂 You’re the only comment I’ve seen about it so far.😂
Ok im glad i found others who have seen this lightning penis
Me too, I am scrolling through the comments and people just don’t care.
it probably means there's no bathroom so they have to hold it in till they find a hotel
Your build satisfied the OCD in me. Thank You
Haha me too, and you're welcome!
WOW, a beauty! Good job well done.
Thanx for staring!
Great Job, but I have to have a BATHROOM !!!!!!
Thank you for finishing this build series. You both did such a great job on her. Lucky are the new owners. They are probably the most popular people wherever they camp.
Happy to have finished, it was something we really wanted to do but just needed to find the time to make it happen! Hope they are enjoying her!
A dry bath is a MUST!
Great video! What a classic setup
Have you discussed finances on these video? How much did you purchase the used Sunraider for, renovation cost, resale price? Would love to know what it takes to buy and restore one of these. Thanks!
Nice pink beer cooler/holder/sleeve ;-)))))
We have a blue one too! His & Hers ;)
I was going to make the same comment. I paused and thought "Is that a lightning penis coozie?" haha
Tis!
Everyone is so obsessed with the bathroom they seemed to have missed that treasure...I thought o imagined it I backed up and paused it.😂
@@BoundForNowhere where are the koozies from?
Great job! I too, like many others, would have kept the bathroom, but to each his own. I live the floor plan that Toyoda used.
I want to do this so bad. I can't wait to find my dream camper like this
Oh mistake on losing the bathroom.
New game: TAKE A SHOT EVERY TIME SHE SAYS “AMELIA.” 😏 By the end, I couldn’t take it. SWEET RIDE THO.
I AM a TOYOTA GUY! These trucks were the best! But, always underpowered. That’s the frustrating part of this build. I feel like the truck under it, limits the camper. I wish this was on a Tundra or even a Tacoma. I think you could still get the retro look. Beautiful work!
I think you have a career in Carpet sales!!! Bring it!!! You had me at the Stove install.. and eyes..
hahahha that would be hilarious!
@@BoundForNowhere
Live It Up!!! PEACE
lol! you crack me up...carpet over here...carpet over there...… amelia is totally awesome. I love it!
skylar brooks I hate Carpet!!!!!!
i know, me too. that's why it was so funny.
really cool. but damn, no bathroom/shower is pretty lame
not
Not at all. I view it as a waste of space.
Well done on the remodeling! Can't wait to start my van life!
So while I know it wasn't the biggest part of this project, I'm hyped as f*&% on the 90s throwback paint scheme. You guys rock!
I don’t necessarily need a shower but at least a cassette toilet for EMERGENCIES!! LOL seriously!! Bad street food will catch up to you sometimes and you gotta GO!! 💩 lol
Rcp 916 lol how often would you be near street food in a ride like this... this is an outdoorsmans and outdoorswomans vehicle. I agree an emergency bucket is never a bad idea, but they built it for their enjoyment, not ours.
Do you have AC??? That’s the million dollar question
Very nice job...love the color stripes on the outside... looks awesome. Inside and out great job.
This is beyond stunning! I'm so jealous!
Thank you so much!
No shower i must shower before i sleep great job RSA
Yes, u r crazy getting rid of the bathroom, but I like crazy. In my rv I have toilet and he small sitting down shower, which I love
Great job on the remodeling . The inside looks cozy . One the good things you have your place with you .
Fantastic build. Its time to enjoy and really be free :)
No bathroom, no freedom...
I love to do it in nature😊
9h yeah in a rain storm or blizzard great just like VN rain or Korea freezing snow🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🪖👍👍😢😢 DAV army
They have all the freedom.
What are talking about you can just stick your butt out the window easy
Great rebuild and it looks nice but, you must have a bladder of steel to do without a bathroom. I need shower and toilet facilities and going into some iffy establishment (because you can not always find a nice one)is not something I want to try.
I just went to your blog and i am going to do this myself. Thank you so much for all the electrical work advice.
Our pleasure!
Excellent restoration. Kudos for doing a proper job by going all the way down to the shell.
You guys did a great job on the camper. The dometic fridge on rollers was inspired. So much better than a stand up fridge. It's unfortunate you had to sell it. I was looking forward to seeing some adventures in it .
Thank you so much. It felt like Amelia was a culmination of everything we've learned living on the road for the last 3 years. Thank you for following along!
No bathroom! Sorry you just lost me, bye!
Lesley Upton bye
Okay bye fuck outta here
Me too...
Lol you people are getting so offended like they owe you something, or were providing you a service that you were paying for. If it works for them, guess what? IT WORKS FOR THEM. No one's forcing you to live without a bathroom. Folks getting all uppity on this video about no bathroom are ridiculous. Maybe people should just let them tell their story without getting their panties in a twist.
reck0n3r you’re the only one I see on this thread with their panties in a twist...I was just agreeing that I’d want a bathroom of some sort...
Great series. I loved the whole build and you did a great job documenting it.
Wow, this is one of the best builds I have seen on UA-cam. The coolest thing is the truck is a Toyota! Great job!
Thank you so much!
Found this exact one for sale, they mustve not liked it that much keep looking lol
where?
So ya fixed it, but then sold it? C’mon man
Sammy Muna it’s all about profitability, and who would buy it without a toilet?
JSHV JSHV - I wouldn’t buy it without a bathroom.
It looks amazing! Great work!
Loved it ! GREAT job !!
So many people bitching about lack of a bathroom.
Either you're going to a campground that will have utilities you can use OR you're going to middle of nowhere and ostensibly know what you're getting in to and won't mind roughing it.
People crying about no bathroom in England we’d just stop at a service station they have showers just take flip flops and your toiletries
99% of us are in America. Not the new Afghanistan known as England
That’s not the case here in the US.
@@Ankimbo I mean, rest areas are everywhere. Most of them dont have showers though
@@spicey4522 yes that's what I meant. I have never come across a rest stop with showers. I am sure they exist but it can't be the norm.
@@Ankimbo You'll find showers at the more trucker-oriented stops, ie Love's or Pilot/Flying J here in the States. Can be a little pricey depending on location, but the handful of times I had to resort to one I found the facilities cleaner and nicer than most RV sites.
Great job on the back lighting, looks Euro. This was hard work, and a complete revamp. Looks terrific now! I'll be checking out your blog.
Your build is absolutely beautiful and exactly what I have been thinking of doing for a long time! I have been with your channel for a while now and thank you for all you positive information and tips! Thanks for this awesome journey.
Thank you so so much! We are so happy to share the journey in hopes that it will help others keep bring these awesome rigs back to life and give them another life on the road! Best of luck to you!
