I'm going to say it again, Cold Steel Can't be beat for the price!
I am so happy you dig this knife! It's what I always said. The Tri-Ad compensates all the stiffness in strength. No lock is overkill in strength. Otherwise we would never use fixed blades. And why don't we use a fixed blade? Because a fixed blade is not so comfortable, discreet and compact as a folder. And it's not only the Tri-Ad you get from Cold Steel. Notice the blade length to weight ratio. You know I like all knives. I like to have one knife from each type in my collection but in my pocket it gotta be a Cold Steel.

If I were ever in a situation to use this knife (because let'a face it, you didn't buy it for food prep), I would just deploy it with 2 hands. I don't think people in the wild west with their slipjoint knives gave 2 shits how much longer it took to get their blades out.

About the Triad Lock, I have a Spartan that was like your Hold Out's lock, ridiculously hard to close. What I did was to open it up, and, adjust that flat spring back some, and, it made a world of difference. It was not hard to do, and, it turned a knife that was 'for sale' fodder into a keeper. Also, I feel no appreciable difference in the lock's strength.

Yup, if I need a folder that needs to perform like a fixed blade in any circumstances - _I'm picking up a Cold Steel_ over a pretty flipper with ball bearings. This is one of the very few of their designs where function takes a slight backseat to form though. As you point out - that thumb stud will make a fixed angle sharpening challenge, plus no sharpening choil. Unlike the Recon 1 or Golden Eye, it doesn't need a finger choil. You're not gonna be cinching up and doing any "fine" work with this bad boy. I also like the fact they've got a thumb contour for grip comfort, which is missing on the Immortal.
Cold steel knives have no sharpening choil because they don't need one. The plunge grind is a 90 degree drop off so you have edge all th way back. Do you sharpen?

Recon 1 is a classic in line with Hinderer XM and Sebenza IMHO.

Does it come with a plate for the side of the knife without the pocket clip?
Love my Frenzy III. I dont notice in the pocket at all. Only 5.7oz weight too. Not at all hard to sharpen.
I would love to be able to remove the thumb stud and add a wave feature to it ( like the kydex "Ripple" idea) but for the life of me I cannot get that screw to turn... They might have put it on with red loctite or something.
The backspacer is metal btw, aluminum I believe. (put your lip against it, it is cold as metal would be).
My lock was TIGHT and nearly impossible to disengage. Over the past 6 months it got considerably better, to the point now it is near perfect.

Can you answer me this question, is the G10 handle polished meaning smooth feeling or is it rough/sandpaper feeling? I can't tell from just looking at the video.
Thomas Connolly Not really sandpaper feeling. But not really slick either. Just a fine grainy feel.
There's a reason why I was asking how the G10 handle felt. I would like to know, does that grainy G10 handle sandpaper or destroy your pocket? Because we all know Cold Steels handle scale texture/pocket clip issues in the past. Did it start to mess up your pocket yet?

The handle is a bead-blast type finish similar to the Ultimate Hunter folder.
Hey knife makers, it's great that you are building ambidextrous designs but would it cost that much more to include a plug for the unused pocket clip attachment point. Some of those big cutouts are really ugly dirt collectors. I've passed on designs I otherwise really liked for that reason alone. Just sayin'.

Not after September 1, 2017. No more illegal knives or swords in Texas under law signed by Governor Abbott. There are a few restrictions like stadiums and schools but you can carry walking the dog etc

i would REALLY appreciate a review on the Stedemon knife Shy but on the G10 version with the 440C steel.
its a more budget friendly option than the s35vn version around 65 dollars.
