Been following you for a year now, still love the content! The intro sound immediately sets a cozy vibe, never change it!
I enjoyed Starfield and am looking forward to this DLC. I know the whole NASA punk was a turn off for some people but I spent hours building my ship and imagining how everything would work. Also Starfield felt optimistic in a way, compared to other games where theres this "everything is awful" tone, there was this underlying hopefulness that harkened back to the space age where even in the middle of the cold war people were looking towards a brighter future.
The optimism felt misplaced. The setting has just come out of a major war that had bioweapons and planetwide destruction, the navy can't stop the crimson fleet pirates, the house va'ruun zealots are still our causing havoc, the terrormorphs are an unstoppable threat spreading between planets, there are only a couple of major inhabited worlds with other settlements being corporatist dystopias, and new colonists are left to fend for themselves. By all means it would kind of suck to live in starfield. Constellation just doesn't seem to care about this, because they are under baked characters.
Starfield was a flawed game that was still a lot of fun.
Horrible story, repeative/tedious grind for abilities (every single one was exactly the same empty place with a single npc to kill at the exact same place)
Ultra cringe dialog from companions with all of them reacting exactly the same way.
Copy paste bases giving the mind numbing sense of redundancy.
been done to death loading screens, yet bethesda felt they needed more.
Game is so far behind the pack, since fallout 76, Bethesda is a joke company now, Howard is an out of touch idiot.
I personally have loved my time in Starfield and look forward to more!
I think it looks pretty sick. Hopefully they add more things to do in space
I like the creature design, they nailed the “wrong” feeling you want out of (what is essentially) warp creatures. They move in creepy ways and are hard to parse exactly what’s going on with them physically while in motion (a positive point in design for the unknowable horror style of monster)
They could have leaned more into the Prey's mimic vibe imo. But let's see how it plays.
isn't most of the creatures in the base game some kind of weird bugs already
Looks good, but I was hoping for improvements to the base game in terms of mechanics, QoL, additional stuff, and POIs
In updates yes, obviously not *in* the dlc.
Bethesda doesn't do that. They very rarely admit defeat and rework base game things post launch. They did so with werewolfs and (technically) vampires in dawnguard, but besides that they never do "enhanced editions" or sweeping changes like cdpr or larian
@@Jereb343 starfield is getting huge changes tho.
How do you know they won’t add him? How do you not know that when this comes out they’ll go oh and by the way we fix this because I would assume the mechanic are referring to are gonna be the same mechanics they’re going to use this DLC and if this DLC has different actions, they’ll have to change the mechanics.
@@Jereb343 Theyve literally adding a vehicle, thats a massive change
The DLC lines up rather well with my latest/current character, I'm looking forward to it.
Shattered Space is how Starfield should have been I mean to have less well crafted planets as a base for the Story, Factions and Sidequest leaving the generated planets for generated small locations if at all added
Thanks for the video. Not the direction I thought they would go, but Bethesda titles have staying power, so maybe this is part of that? Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
I hope this is another of Far Harbor style dlc with compact world, story focused, creepy vibe, factions, etc. and of course some great music
I hope it's just nothing like Nuka World
And don’t forget Point lookout, if you played fallout 3, and it’s dlc! Excellent dlc imho 😊
I’ve been a fan since day one. Still play to this day and have been anxiously awaiting Shattered Space. The game is certainly not perfect, but the flaws it has doesn’t prevent me from enjoying my time playing it. It was exactly what I wanted: a BGS RPG set in space.
Hopefully this exceeds what Far harbor offered. Starfield really needs that if they want this new IP to have at least some form of success and longevity as The Elder Scrolls and Skyrim.
Looking forward to this DLC, hopefully lives up to my expectations.
I'm excited for the expansion, but I'm disappointed that Bethesda is focusing on a single planet in Shattered Space. We have hundreds of planets in the base game, and if anything, this game needs more meaningful content on those pre-existing planets.
right but the reason the game had so little meaningful contort is because they made a thousand planets instead.
"Quantity has its own quality."
Um, not in game planets.
To be fair, since all the planets are largely the same and largely boring, I think focusing on 1 is all the same.
But I hear you, maybe they will add some more engaging and entertaining planets, less "it's the moon, most things are moon, why are you not excited?"
At least that's what I'm waiting to see. Too many games to buy.
Excuse me?
Let me explain something to you… Starfield is supposed to feel empty. It has tons of content but it’s mostly hidden and sparse to give that empty space feel.
It would be impossible to do this for more than 2 planets, it would take years. And they also don’t want to because it didn’t fit the vision of the game.
Shattered space is a *expansion* so it *expands* on the game, not completely changes the base game.
@@TheParagonIsDeadspent some 70 hours in starfield, trying to find anything genuinely interesting at all on these hundreds of planets, and its just the same random gen structures over and over and over. Starfield made loneliness and exploration feel like a 9-5 desk job.
This game would’ve been absolutely perfect at about 15-20 really well fleshed out planets with way more handcrafted content. Massive mistake to expand so much.
Starfield was alright. Put 100 hours in and had a mostly good time. This looks way better than anything in the base game
I miss old mass effect.
so u got that too?
All Must Follow, The Serpents Path
If we have at least two more of this type of DLC I’ll give Starfield a try
Believe Todd at least confirmed there's another one in pre-prod for next year alr. There's also Beth trademarking "Starborn" which can hint what the next expansion relates to.
Why not try it now?
Careful now. Even Cyberpunk only got one.
@@motivateddad Starfield will be getting a yearly story expansion.
Mods will certainly add content too.
I really like your take on reviewing Starfield stuff
I think what you’re feeling is what almost every gamer feels with a game that’s over 100 hours long I mean even Elden Ring at one point I got so bored with it I was like I’m gonna stop playing this for a while cause the same old same old same over and over. It’s the same with this. I don’t think games should be this long. I really don’t.Dollar value per hour for the price of the game. You know about a 25 hour games about all anyone really should want, but anyway everyone’s different.
@@shamelessplace11 I've played Morrowind for a bazillion hours and loved it. Loved Cyberpunk too. I have lots of games I've played for several 100s of hours. Starfield is just very, very lackluster with a few good sparks.
Moment to moment I enjoyed starfield overall. The amount of loading screens, Navigating to new areas, the repetitiveness of unlocking your powers all really were a major downer.
A fully hand crafted world should address nearly all these issues. I am excited to see some actually variety in energy weapons and maybe even a new progression system? or at least new builds.
Hopefully we see more aliens of the non-bug variety. Snake shaped body plans without legs or wings in particular. It being the headquarter of The Great Serpent worshipers and all
I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully, it will have some choices that actually have resonating effects in the game universe instead of "You've completed this huge faction quest that changes nothing for the rest of the game world".
I'm really happy about the idea of more hand-made narrative content being added to this game that desperately needs it, but for £26 it better be bloody good, and last more than a handful of hours. Greatly looking forward to your review on it, pal.
So how much is the base game like £60?
The dlc is nearly half the price of the entire game, it better be totally loaded with content
That world better have like 50 landing sites on it and not the 3 I suspect is does
@driver3899 that's like many games DLC 🤷♂️ old Bethesda DLC cost as much aslo🤷♂️
@@driver3899 you say it's smallest? Or is there fact involved? It's just opinion based by my knowledge and so that's no my opinion it's already pre ordered and il be adding to my already 800 hour in starfield.
@@kevinlist3330 It's an observation based on the number of quests, factions and hand crafted locations there are in starfield their other games like skyrim and fallout
I figured you had it pre ordered
@@driver3899 observation right 🤷♂️ so again old Bethesda fanboy dislikes Starfield and likes to talk trahs about it 🤷♂️ too much procedural generated content, DLac too expensive? You ever thought of just moving on like an adults?
Looking forward to giving this another go to see how the game/the mods have improved since launch.
I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and unfortunately Starfield left the taste of stale bread in my mouth. I didn't think it was atrocious like a lot of others did, I thought it was serviceable and could be fun at times, it just didn't give me what I personally would've liked. I'm glad to see that Bethesda is going full steam ahead with a horror themed DLC (as they usually do) and to see them take a step back to focus on the smaller details rather than procedurally generating a ton of planets with nothing to do. I'm very much looking forward to your full video on this DLC and hope it meets some of my expectations for it
Croutons are good
@@KaStradamus. Croutons are double baked and seasoned bread, not just stale bread 🥱
@@Toma-621 yea but imagine the goodness
I wasn’t blown away with the dialogue writing for Starfield. Two examples : Fix the Eye and distress call from research station missions. The first has just click on a wrench to “fix” something and the second mission has you confirm the existence of the multiverse and a lab technician just says something along the lines of “oh neat” 😂 Also the NPCs look creepy to me. The game systems are over designed with base building and resource extraction and crafting. I am hoping a lot more gets added to take advantage of it all.
I felt exactly the same about Starfield. Even the modders have not managed to fix the game for me yet.
That said, their horror missions were actually the best part. So it's good that they're expanding on that. Hopefully it rekindles some interest.
I don't mind if they decided to limit the scope, size wise, if they took the time to make it all handcrafted like their older games. The hand-crafted areas were far more compelling to explore than the 120 generated planets. Hopefully its as good as Shivering Isle, or at least Dragonborn / Far Harbor.
Starfield taking some notes from Dead Space I see :D
Starfield is one of those games that everyone just wants to hate and most people that hate it just hate it because they are told to by the masses. It's also a game that can never live up to the ridiculous expectations and hype that gamers themselves created around it.
Going into the game more or less blind with no anticipation other than knowing its a Bethesda game - i've had nothing but an amazing time every single time i've played it.
I’m genuinely glad that you enjoy the game, but I think chalking it up to people hating it because they are told to ignores the major problems it has. People, myself included, hated it for a reason. Tons of bugs, very bad optimization, poorly implemented features, and terrible exploration. Let me give you an example of the last one since this really stood out to me. I wanted to build an outpost on a planet, so I found a planet that had the resources I wanted. I used the world view to find a place with 2 or 3 of the resources close together. I spent literal hours trying to find that spot with my character, but there’s no way to know where you are on the globe. They somehow managed to take most of the exploration out of an open world space game. So again, it’s great that you enjoy it, but the hate isn’t unwarranted and it’s more gracious than the game deserves to just say people are hating it because they’re told to. There are plenty of reasons why people hate it.
Agreed
I wanted to love it. I was willing to ignore a whole lot of issues. Im a big defender of oblivion and skyrim from haters, but starfield really is just terrible. It has nothing to do with people being told to hate it
I'm commenting here to give you engagement. The discourse from the gaming community for Starfield is so toxic that I can't stand to even look. It's depressing.
It really is toxic. On almost every comment I make about the game that expresses my positive opinion, I get a swarm of people telling me I’m wrong for enjoying the game, have no standards, or don’t know what good games are. Even on the deep dive video yesterday, I mentioned I would take the day off to play the DLC, and I had someone immediately respond with “There’s no way you would take the day off to play this garbage.” What?
I’m not trying to convince anyone that they should play the game. I’m not trying to “convert” anyone to Starfield. I’m not being antagonistic towards people that dislike the game. I’m just sharing my experience and why I personally enjoy it and feel it is a great return to form that fixes a lot of the issues I had with Fallout 4 (which I also really enjoy). Despite that, I still get flamed.
It is 100% fair to have critiques of the game. There are things about Starfield that I wish were better. The issue comes when people blow those issues up and then try to validate their dislike of the game by bringing other people down to also dislike it.
Holy fuck I’m so excited to only play this for a few weeks
i feel like their design choice for 'nasa-punk' restricted them for the possibilities they could have given us. they could have gone full space fantasy and brought in aliens and magic etc, literally elder scrolls in space type of stuff. but the real world setting really doesnt give much interesting exploration - its basically all abandoned space base. imagine landing on a planet and exploring something like the geonosis caves in attack of the clones? but no, we got 'generic base with mercenaries'.
They didn't want to do full space fantasy. There are enough games that so this and there is skyrim for the fantasy vibe
@@qwertyvypez im aware they didnt want to, and their decision ended up backfiring.
I’m certainly looking forward to this one… I think I’m gonna wrap up my current play through of WoTR and maybe play Warhammer Rogue Trader before I get around to this one… That’ll be enough time for a couple patches and I think it’ll be ready to play.
Ill buy it on deep sale. Played a hundred hours on gp. I liked the game for what it is
Glad Mort is still covering this. I remain interested, but I'm waiting for more DLC and systemic updates that add in something more engaging and less bland.
The Moon might be bland, gray, and ultimately boring (although we haven't checked in for a while)...no reason for a game to mimic that....everywhere.
So I have hopes. The DLC helps.
Anyway, +1 for continued coverage at some level.
THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!! The original video put me to sleep, I couldn't watch it.
Hi, maybe a humble review idea: Skald: Against the black priory A Crpg. Meaningfull choices. Your bread and butter?
I reviewed it when it released
Looks good and will play it.
Starfield is ok, I've had fun with it, but the progression is so "meh" that I'd likely never roll another character.
On the good side of things, the Creation Club "Escape" DLC from Bethesda was pretty good and suggests that Bethesda has the potential to do some great future content for Starfield (hopefully including Shattered Space).
This kind of DLC would go a long way to *saving* Starfield. Bespoke content is what it really needs. Sooooo many planets are currently just the worst kind of repetitious nonsense. They also need to completely revamps scanning, add more *dynamic* events between various species on a given planet, completely remove scanning for the ocean-based lifeforms...that's just incredibly stupid considering how difficult and time consuming it is and since you can't even actually explore the oceans-proper...what the hell is the point.
...but this seems like a good start. 3 or 4 more of THESE kinds of DLC, with bespoke planets and locations that really flesh out the lore and world building would be a great addition to the base game.
I literally can’t wait damn.
Will play it maybe. Too many not so fond memories with the base game which demotivates me. Would be nice if you could play this dlc like a standalone game so i can blend all the other drama out.
13 days and counting!
Starfield has a very similar feel to me as Dragon's Dogma 2. There's a lot of it to like, but so many little design peculiarities that completely misses the mark on what the "Bethesda Formula" has drawn people in for decades for.
I still am having a good time, but the "magic" of the games is gone.
Is it a hand crafted world though or just one hand crafted map tile?
That's my main question
I’m sure this will be 1 main handcrafted tile, with other tiles on the planet you can fast travel to
@@RobbieB2606 Yeah for the price I wonder how many other tiles though. Maybe it will be a bunch and that will be great but maybe not
Afaik, it's an increased tile in comparison to the base game. Could be x4 in size with 50+ locations. Like labs, military bases, the City and so on.
@@alexjensen007 Now that would be really cool.
I don't see how they can make a bigger tile and get past the float point problem that makes the map tiles the size they are, but hopefully they made a work around for it
@@driver3899it’s the size of a small games map, it’s worth the price and will have tons of hours of content.
Did I miss where Shattered Space fits in the Starfield story? Is there a certain minimum level or some other event that unlocks this quest?
No there's no minimum level, it's avaliable after leaving kreet in the intro of the game
Starfield of UA-cam Jazz 🎶
This looks SIGNIFICANTLY better than the base game
I like this. Thank you
It looks good but I really hate the amount of load screens in the game. After completing it a couple times I just gave up playing it because of them. Nice the dlc is in one place. Hopefully, you won't have a bunch of loading screens to play it.
Thank you for being the only UA-camr supporting starfield!
"Creatures have been warped by reality being altered" : trailer shows giant bugs.
Very creative, Bethesda.
Your comment really shows that no matter what Bethesda does, you’ll just find something to complain and hate.
zombies are next dlc
@@soliquidsnake3990 .
@@soliquidsnake3990 "Your comment really shows that no matter what Bethesda does, you'll defend them"
To be clear : I don't mind bug enemies but I've already seen those particular ones in Starcraft, and they don't seem "warped" -reaper creatures from Mass effect 3 fits that description much more for example, or even all the "eyes on shoulder" boss monsters in RE
I wanted to be a space pirate 😞
What is a deep dive? Is Mortim already playing it? I hope it will be good to replay Starfield! Question is whether to start a new game or continue the previous character in a new galaxy (new game+4 or so) which I didnt play since release.
Starfield Dead Space?
Gronk!
As a high ranking member of house Hlaalu, I'll tell you... house Va'ruun better come with some good flin or Sujamma to trade if they wanna be accepted into the Great houses. Otherwise, the Camonna Tong will have something to say about it.
(I miss you Morrowind! I miss you so freaking much!)
Are they reworking most locations or did they only work on the DLC's locations? Because even if they add nice content, the base game remains bland...
I don't know if there is a choice but I don't see a world where I don't bring Andreja.
The game has so much potential, but flopped on release.
Hopefully, it can make a comeback like No Man’s Sky.
The game needs more science FICTION (Star Trek) and less science FANTASY (Star Wars, Doctor Who).
Would also love it if they had “friendly” sentient species (personally). Maybe a cameo from Fallout’s hostile aliens? LOL
free comment.
Do we think that ship that looks like it has m class habs. Is that hint m class is coming lol
I don't understand the hate for this game, i forget who said it first but someone called it "gamer junk food" like AC Valhalla, its not anywhere close to being the best game ever but buy it for 60 bucks and put 100 hours in and thats 0.06 cents per hour of fun which is incredibly cost efficent fun, im not going to sit here and say McDonalds is great or even good, but I'll still buy it 1 or 2 times a month just to save money
I didn't think Starfield a bad game. Just not a $70 game, or a game to subscribe to Gamepass for. If this is solid, that could change my mind.
I wonder how far the player will need to be to access the dlc. I got so tired of what felt like constant loading screens that I fell off the game pretty quickly (finished the Rangers story and I only got maybe a few hours after doing the stupid mini game to get my gravity power thing).
Crazy that bethesda thought people would still be playing starfield a year after it released. And that's coming from someone who really enjoyed my time with the game.
DLC is meant for people to come back and enjoy the game again with new content.
There’s no way bethesda thinks everyone is playing this game year round
Some people are, granted a minority but still - that's not who the DLC is really for. That's who all the great updates up until the DLC arrives have been for.
There's people still playing it
Game definitely lost steam after launch.
I bought the DLC, I will probably chase it for the achievements and .. nostalgia.
2 points ...
1) the title "Deep Dive" says more than what you are reviewing ... like "I had that DLC for 2 weeks" ... either demote it to "very early impressions" or amend it to "Deep Dive on the trailer"
2) Gravity Anomaly ..... they missed the opportunity to import the PREY no gravity system into this pile of skit .... atleast I didn't notice it
Bethesda called it a deep dive - mort is just referencing their video title
@@RobbieB2606 okay then
the game is : wide as an ocean , deep as a puddle
the deep dive is skimming the surface
He is talking about what Bethesdas preview, the so-called “Deep Dive”, showed. It’s actually really simple
You gonna review Frostpunk 2?
Ill likely make a video on it, probably not a review
deep dives seem to be getting shorter and shorter
It's a DLC, what more could they have shown without just spoiling it
nice
Good preview but i will hard PASS still
