The incredible story of prosthetics for 105th Brigade soldier Yuriy Trokhymenko, who lost both his arms while defending Ukraine in fierce battles!
Yuriy is a junior sergeant with the call sign «Zhmerynka» who joined the Ukrainian army in the first days of the full-scale invasion. In the battles on the border of Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, he had a fateful encounter with the enemy. A mine exploded right in front of Yuriy, and deadly shrapnel severely cut his face and arms. A doctor applied two tourniquets to his arms, which led to the tragedy of «tourniquet syndrome,» necrosis and high amputation of both arms.
In October 2023, thanks to the Revived Soldiers Ukraine Foundation, Yura and his wife arrived in the United States for treatment and prosthetics. Together with the Prosthetic Innovations Upper Extremity team in Philadelphia, we were able to fabricate two bionic prosthetic arms for him!
Yuriy’s story is not only a story of loss, but also of incredible strength of spirit and rebirth. His example is a vivid testament to the fact that even in the most difficult times, you can overcome any difficulties!
